Among relatively young generation I would mention Sergey Khachatryan after Leonidas Kavakos.
OMG he's amazing. his expression is unique but tasteful, and thoughtful. he's a cut above all the rest. I can see why he was youngest winner ever of the Sibelius competition and won this queen elisabeth competion.
A performance like this gives me hope for violin competitions. he placed high and even though it was not technically perfect all the time, that is not what matter to the judges, it was the feeling and emotions that he was able to convey that made this such a high caliber performance. so much musical feeling and ideas and the beauty of the sound take you away from the technical stuff.
in the concert I couldn't believe it, it was the first time that I saw a great violinist and I couldn't belive what i was hearing and seeing, and the sound... what a sound, so pure.

Last Saturday we saw him do the Shostakovich violin concerto with the Philadelphia Orchestra under Kurt Masur. His talent was impressive. This work requires real endurance from the soloist, and he achieved this by total immersion in the piece. The audience gave him the biggest applause I have seen in the last five years or so.
