Thanks for the tip to shop men’s small. I do that with white tshirts that I sleep in but never made the leap to your suggestion. Snow is beautiful--it’s 83 degrees here in zone 9b on February 4! 😳

    I love amaryllis flowers !!! Just not red ones. I don’t know why , but l have never liked red flowers. When my husband and l started dating back in 1980 something.. he liked to bring flowers 💐 over. I had to be very diplomatic and let him know that l love any color rose but red . We have a Fresh Market close to us, and they have a very nice flower section . He always brings flowers home when he goes food shopping .

    I have a double bloom burgundy amaryllis that is going to open very soon and also in bloom is apple blossom. I also have several that are past bloom and letting them just grow as you say. I do plant mine outside in huge pot for summer. But i am so looking forward to Spring so I have a beautiful pot of blue hyacinths. And I've had several hyacinths in the bud vases that I love the smell, lots of ice and snow in NE Ohio. Stay safe and warm.

  • @maryschlotter108

    Your arrangement was beautiful, I do pretty much the same with aftercare as I don’t have a greenhouse. I will cut the flowers and put them in a vase grouped together. Then while it’s still too cold out ( before I can put them out for summer) I buy some pretty blooms that I know will hold up like alstroemerias ( from Trader Joe’s) I put them in water tubes insert them throughout the amaryllis foliage add preserved moss to cover the soil and tubes or any other mechanics . This is called Pot et Fleur . You can change up the florals when they are passed their prime. I hope this “ tickles you pink “ 😉🌸

    I purchased a Minerva amaryllis November 2020 and it only grew foliage, and a baby bulb grew from the side of the original bulb. It didn’t bloom either, but I kept them like a well cared for houseplant until I put them into dormancy September 1, 2021. Brought them out two months later, cut all the dead foliage off, watered and fed them, and not a darn thing happened 😆. So last week in the trash 🗑 they went. Going to try again this year with a Ferrari amaryllis I got for $3 on clearance that actually did bloom.

    I actually like amaryllis more in the periode after Christmas. In January and the beginning of February i like to have some fresh flowers but I find it to early for spring bulbs. I do agree that the red ones are too 'christmasy' (?), but the other colours are the ideal in between blooms. Next week it's time for Narcissus.

    Waxed Amaryllis bulbs how to save and replant. FYI
    Susan's in the Garden has a good video how to remove wax and replant.

    Sheila McDade from Chattanooga here . . . I loved your outfit "le jour" especially the fuchsia pink earrings. QUESTION REGARDING OVERWINTERING: Do you or have you ever dug up and overwintered your tulip bulbs? Mine always rot in our clay soil and wet winters and I have never gone to the trouble of digging them up. Sometimes they give me 2 seasons but rarely.

      @LindaVater  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same experience here. I don’t have any place to really overwinter them, and for all of the trouble, it just isn’t effective. I would rather have guaranteed success and plant new every year. For me it is well worth the expense and the time!

    I hear you, I tried everything gardener's said to do & at Christmas nothing came back. I just threw out bulbs. I thought bulbs would be easy to save year to year. 🤔northeast Ohio is so different in climate than Oklahoma.

    Linda I have a plant question. I brought in two lavender topiary, one is still alive the other just dried up, but I'm thinking maybe it will come back. LOL I live in Chicago zone 5. My question to you is can I trim them, and next year should I just plant in ground?

    • @LindaVater
      @LindaVater  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That pretty much sounds like my experience, they are typically so route bound by the time we buy them, that they are typically not real long lived. I just enjoy them while I have them. And I always keep them in pots because I know they will die for sure if I plant them in the ground lol!

    I bought an amaryllis, it bloomed beautiful white blossoms but didn’t grow any leaves. Instead it looks like a couple of leaves are growing from the side of the bulb, could this be a new bulb and will the large bulb survive?

      I find they need lots of water and humidity. Which can be very difficult inside during the winter. Most of the time I just enjoy them for as long as they last!

    Any advice for amaryllis that are taking forever to grow/bloom?

    • @LindaVater
      @LindaVater  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the bulbs are new, I would just suggest giving them a bit more warmth and light. Once they start showing signs of a bud or leaf growth, then start watering them regularly

      I had gotten one from my niece. It was a cutting. It takes seven years to bloom. In the winter you put it in the basement and stop watering… it is six years old this year. I’m going to bring it outside and start to feed it in the late spring and hopefully it will flourish…. I too don’t have space for it and my house doesn’t face the right way to put things in the window…oh well, I do the best t can and wait!!
      Love your show… you are a breath of spring in the middle of our crazy weather this year…. Glad you didn’t have ice like last year!! The days are getting longer thank God!!💕🌹💐🙋🏻
