      Same here. For example, I used to do 70+ pushups at a time, when I was in the military. The form was trash, but good enough to pass a PT test. When using proper form and full ROM, that number dropped significantly.

    I know that feeling, bro. People also always ask me (since I look a bit fit and have a pull-up bar in my apartment) how much I can do. My answer is always 10-15 pull ups and 10-15 push ups. And they are all like: WTF?!?!? You’re that weak?!?!? How you look like that?!?!? When I start to talk about ROM or 2-1-2 sets etc. They don’t want to hear that stuff…… Because people are sooo out of touch with that high numbers from these show offs…..

Since then it's been about 50 to 60 clean reps. Bunch of guys are like... I thought you were fit man?! You can't even max push ups? I'm just like... Try doing them with proper form and see how many you can do. But they don't have to. We already PT together where I'm doing 30 clean reps without struggling and they're doing like 20 struggling.... • @vitor900000
    @vitor900000 ปีที่แล้ว +52

    Another exception is when you can't do the full rom because of lack of strength. This is common for beginners.
    For example there are many ways to built up to a clean pushup. For example you can do inclined pushups or shorten the rom. As you develop more strength you can gradually decrease the inclination or increase rom.

    • @callanc3925

    Another tip: Isometrics. Isometrics don't do much in terms of building muscle, but what they do is train your muscle to fire more in that position. So, if you're struggling to get your chin over the bar on pull-ups, it might be a smart move to incorporate some isometric sets at the very top into your workout

    If anybody has to force their chin over the bar, they are not getting full range of motion because you should be pulling towards your clavicle your chest your sternum or even lower

    • @Elrog3
      @Elrog3 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you go lower than your sternum, you're doing a full muscle up at that point.

      Yeah I can't stand it when people angle their head back so their chin reaches the bar.
      GTFOH!
      Target is collar-bone, as you said.

    I have purchased the "Body Transformation Bundle" and just finished the Basic program. It took me 200+ days. The improvements are gradual but solid. Now I am entering the Pro program that looks a bit scary but I will keep following the instructions. :-)

    Next time someone someone challenges you to a pullup or pushup competition,
    ask them to demonstrate their form first, to see if it's even worth bothering with.
    I always add a stipulation to pushups that we'll do them on knuckles on concrete,
    which eliminates the posers pretty quick. 😉

    There are a number of papers that support a reduced ROM on the more stretched side of a rep. No full extension. Apparently 5-10% gains in controlled environment.

    Whenever someone brags about how much they can lift or how many reps they can do, don't feel bad because you can't. The fact that they brag about it means it's important to their ego, which means they probably use bad form to inflate that number

    I could do about 200 push ups when i was a bit younger. But to be fair my day comes from a farming house so doing hard labour from early morning to night is normal for me. Now i could do about 20. Because of Covid, beer, smoking etc etc.

    I call bullshit. I am not a strong guy, I ensured I did proper form, and from never working out a day in my life I could do 20. After a week I could do 30, after a month 60. It got so easy I stopped. Small research and yea, push ups are easy and don't build you up much. You need progressive overload for gains not more reps.

  • @TheTickyTickyTicky

    There id also a difference between clean rep as a task, and clean rep as a training. For the former purpose you just do the bare minimum, but for the latter you must maximize the load. I wouldn't be surprised if people go around bragging their minimum effort clean pushup numbers.
