This is solid advice that I have heard many times over the years. Letting go of your ego and actually focusing on proper form and ROM is hard for some people.
Another exception is when you can't do the full rom because of lack of strength. This is common for beginners. For example there are many ways to built up to a clean pushup. For example you can do inclined pushups or shorten the rom. As you develop more strength you can gradually decrease the inclination or increase rom.
@@callanc3925 Yep. As I was going down at a certain point my arms would just give up before I could reach the full rom. I was slowly building up rom but had to stop exercising for some time.

This is why there are progression exercises. Try to perfect each progression and you will build up the strength to do the normal version of the exercise you are doing.
Happened to some degree to me. I myself remember back when I was starting I was able to do 30 "pushups", 5 months later and now that I am using the correct technique, full reps, full range of motion I am once again able to do 30, however, this time done correctly.
Bought Complete Calisthenics on BF last year, started training on January and now I’m jacked af. Ok, not really that jacked (93 kg), but I’m able to do a couple of pushups (15-25), pullups (5-8), dips (6-8) and I might be in the best shape of my 45yo life. It is never too late to start.💪
Another tip: Isometrics. Isometrics don't do much in terms of building muscle, but what they do is train your muscle to fire more in that position. So, if you're struggling to get your chin over the bar on pull-ups, it might be a smart move to incorporate some isometric sets at the very top into your workout
