watching all your vids and this one seems tough.. alot of materials in this fly.. beautifully done! Ive noticed how much cleaner and more precise your videos are the longer you go on over the many years
Thanks Davie, and thanks for all these wonderful videos. I've been tying for many years but watching these has improved my tying immensely. Keep 'em coming, please!
Thank you :) it seems to me that, for all the talk of colour and dye, you don't tie with colour but with the light that shines through the colours of the materials, like tying a stained glass window for the fish... wonderful skills... Dave.
Excellent Davie as always I am a great fan and I dont think I have ever watched you ty a poor representation, wet, dry, buzzer, lure etc they are all good but heres the twist .If I was just starting out as a fly tyer and fisherman and a young man/woman the first place I would go to now is the internet rather than books and also better still utube which is where you have made your mark along with a handful of others and I would see how its done by the experts but theres never any mention of how the fly is fished, how its used, what line would be best, leader top middle or point, retrieve etc ,this information is just as important and would give a great deal of confidence to anyone that has copied your ty
Hi Marek Bosak, Yes this is a loch style fly that fishes well in Ireland especially when the mayfly are coming off. Although I did tye a few for a friend in America as they have caught him many fish on the rivers he fishes so it would be worthwhile tying a couple to see if they would work for you..I'm glad you liked the fly... All the very best Davie
The octopus catches fish from opening day right through to closing day on Lough Corrib, I have also caught many salmon (grilse) with it also . . . a great fly!
Hi David, I have been trying to dye the golden pheasant sunburst but have not been able to get it to the same colour as the feather in your video. Is there any place I can source them already dyed the sunburst colour? Thanks for the brilliant videos and information.Martin
Hi Martin, I keep the lightest feathers for dying sunburst, but if you would like a stronger sunburst colour then if you can bleach the feathers first then dye them you will end up with a better colour..I dye most of these materials myself so I'm sorry I don't know of any that sell them.. I'm glad you enjoy the videos and thanks for the kind words... All the very best Davie..
What a spectacular fly! I wonder why this very full style of fly seems to work so well on the big Irish Loughs and yet are far less popular on Loch Leven, Ness, Vennacher, Lomond etc? Is it just a case of different traditions?
Hi martin keane, I've attached a links to Future Flies website which you can buy direct from but I've also added a link to shops that stock their materials...I hope this helps you.. All the very best Davie futurefly.dk/en/storefinder futurefly.dk/en/flytying-materials/ff-dubbing

Brilliant tying once again Davie.
Just brilliant davie, I use a similar pattern to that, when fishing the great loughs, thanks again davie, happy wrappings, Davey.
I did enjoy it, Davie... thank you.

Excellent tying as always! Are these Irish style patterns also effective on rivers? I don't have any lochs 🙂
