I still enjoy watching these old videos of Steve but with a little sadness. What a lovely man and an inspirational gardener. I watch quite a few other gardeners on TH-cam but none compare with Steve. God bless you Steve.

Here in Germany in late autumn the farmers grow dwarf sunflowers mixed with what look like mustard and oil radish as attractive cover crops in their fields, so unless they are a different species the sunflowers seem to do the soil good rather than harming it for any future plants. It also looks very nice.

I have Rudbeckia about 5 years old in my garden Steve. I chop them down to the ground about now every year, no mulch, they've come back bigger every year so far. Pat

My rudbeckia died back a few weeks ago here in Leicestershire, so I was surprised to see yours still blooming Steve! Mind you, we did have some torrential rain & a very light frost, so that probably finished them off! Looks like you’re well on the way to producing some great compost there 👍😊

Talking of compost I have spent a few days collecting leaves and mowing them a couple of times for leaf mould - now I have to be patient 🙂.

I've read that you can decontaminate the soil with sunflowers 🌻 and then you should take them out with the roots and not put it on the compost heap but your soil was ok. I think the roots of the sunflowers 🌻 will just add to the fertility of the soil.

Great video. On the coast near you and I have to stake and tie my broad bean to within an inch of its life 😀 As long as I do, it prevents them from snapping in the wind and they survive and thrive despite the many storms that batter them. Following your great advice to keep sowing, I've just sowed a variety of seeds in my quadgrow tubs in the greenhouse as an experiment. Still getting some great temperatures so hopeful they could germinate. I've gone for lettuce, chard, cabbage and carrots. I think I'll try some broadbeans as a winter greenhouse experiment.

    Another great video Steve Thanks
Harvested my potato towers yesterday a bit disappointing, 12 reasonable potatoes in tower 1, and tower 2 about 15 potatoes but a bit smaller in size

Hi Steve ..I've had to take a step back from my allotment over the last few weeks and broad beans are not in yet what would you do ..direct sow them or bring them on in the tunnel ? ..another thing ,I've got too many beans that need sowing now .I'm thinking of growing them close together then thinning them out just before they flower leaving the roots in ...do you think this would work to feed the bed ?.have you thought of pickling your chillies
