Day 10 - Mkuze. THE FIG FOREST WALK AND THE MAGNIFICENT PEL'S FISHING OWL!

- Spotting the Pel’s Fishing Owl is one of those things every birder dreams of. Our dream finally came true when we spotted this beautiful bird on our walk in the Fig Forest. One of the most special experiences we have ever had. Just wow! Not only did we see lovely birds, but we also got to see Lion and a Cheetah at Mkuze! You don’t often see big cats at Mkuze, so this was really a special day.

Great video…spent 4 nights there in May 2023…very wet year and we struggled for “big” sightings, but we were 1st guest to do bush walk with Patrick after the floods….saw the Pels too….the hides in that place are next level…..that walk is so special…you are right, the park just needs more visitors…we literally were 2 or 3 vehicles in the entire main park…only saw other people once…

Big cats and the some stunning birds, including THE owl. Your videos inspire us to pay closer attention to the birds. Kayaked through a mangrove swamp in SW Mexico, with the local birder. Saw many many kinds of herons, spoonbill, white and brown pelican, frigates!! and an osprey.
Lovely - will definitely have to add Mkuze to our bucket list of places to visit, we are keen birders so this looks amazing. Thanks for sharing.
After 21 nights on our north to south trip of the Kruger, we're back home in the UK and managed to finally catch up on your latest videos. We had a wonderful time and so blessed with great sightings but boy, was it hot! Mid 40's for nearly a week. So glad you got to see your owls. Merry Christmas to you both and safe travels ❤️

Great video. We had such bad luck last month as we went to the wetlands and really wanted to do the Fig forest walk to spot the Pels but apparently there is only 1 guide that does this walk and he was on leave from the day we arrived in KZN until the day we left. We will go back next year to find it. Thanks for the video.
Thank you! Sorry that you couldn’t do it. We were there for 4 nights last year December and the Forest was flooded after all the rain. Still LOVED our stay, Mkuze is so special and so beautiful 🤩 But so happy we could do it this time. Hope you guys can do it soon 🤞🏼
