@@ani_b This is clearly FAR more extensive than any HUD currently on the market. Look at what this HUD can display on the passenger side for example. The projector your EQS uses clearly is not on that level of sophistication.
@@ani_b This is basically to replace the typical full digital cluster or large pillar to pillar display with a cleaner design. You don't see a display there until something is displayed. And you're right where this looks like your AR-HUD in your EQS, except that the images from this has a much wider viewing angle, while for your EQS, only the driver, or the passenger right behind you can see. Plus, the virtual image projection distance for this is probably 1meter+ from driver's eye, so you may see the image floating somewhere near behind your windshield, and your EQS if much further, like 7meter + where the image seems like floating much further away and will be useful for navigation.
Buy a car without rain sensing wipers, HUD, or any driver assist active safety features then Replacing the windshield requires a piece of glass compatible with these tech features and often requires recalibrating them which is where the cost comes from Personally, I am willing to pay to have these features cause they make driving soooooo much more chill

Finally I'll be able drive with my eyes looking at the road instead of constantly fixed on the speedometer because I don't want any more speeding fines for going 1 mph over the speed limit.
This is actually a partnership with the Company Zeiss Microoptics that develops Multifunctional Smart Glass. The Company Zeiss Microoptics was itself in CES.
there is a 400ms delay between you and the speedometer in regular cars. which is in fact . distraction . but in this you are looking at the road always . and you get used to it
We already have information projected on a small plastic screen in front of the windscreen in our Kona Ultimate (2020). We love it as you can keep your eyes on the road instead of the dashboard behind the steering wheel. The new windshield display will make the experience even better.
Another example of tech we don’t need and that adds thousands to the cost of the vehicle, not to mention the cost of fixing when it inevitably stops working.
Heads Up Display has a different design, even though this is clearly a heads up display in its literal definition of description, but it is a mounted projector underneath the frame, I like this idea the car doesn’t need to have a lot of things going on, the heads up display can show the right information at the right time.
They show case the max capacity and you can only display speedo if you want. That is called SDV (software defined vehicle). I won't say it will be user customizable due to regulartory requirements in different countries. But user will have choice and (hopefully) OEM will update the SDV by OTA like Tesla already done in the passed 10 years.
try to adjust the image lower down to the road (in between your hood and the tyres of the car in front), so that it's not directly along your line of sight (eg. the back of the car in front).
Uhh. My 2011 car has this. A projected screen onto the windshield display. And the passenger cant see either. Just not as big obviously. Isnt this like normal?
People don’t understand the amount of studies and science behind this stuff. They know where you’re looking, for how long, and how each artifact on the screen is going to affect your driving. Cognitive psychology. That’s fine. People use limited knowledge (citing current applications with similar aspects and huge limitations) instead of seeing through the views of the future.
Purpose of CES is to showcase and get feedback. For OEM, they need public opininon to make sure their $1 spend in the right direction. ~95% of the items in the CES does not make the cut into production and even less for company to make $. Smart Mobile phone (some) 3. Smart IoT appliances (light, door) 4. Smart TV ....
@ you are 100% correct, overheating phones are a large issue where I live in Australia Doesn’t matter if it’s Samsung, Apple, google, xiaomi, Sony, nothing, expensive, cheap, foldable, I’ve used them all and they all overheat in about 10 minutes of normal use, let alone being under a piece of glass
So it’s distracting when there are lots of screen in the car so why not put them in front of your face to not distract you instead because that makes sense 😂
HUDs will be better received by the newer generations more familiar with the concept via video games. Plus this has been around for longer than most people know…nothing new here
This is definitely a huge distraction. Some cars have already had a similar feature. I know for a fact because I was in one before which projected zone speed limit, current speed, and simple navigation steps (like turn left or right in a 100 feet etc.). Very distracted and took me a while to get used to. I think the most useful feature will be voice control when changing ALL car settings. That's the killer feature.
This is literally a HUD.
Yeah, I don't understand how this is different from the AR HUD in my EQS.
It is but it has specific quirks that a HUD doesn't follow.
Exactly.

They could have showcased the sunny feature by placing a light above to simulate the sun.
The display lanes not aligning with the road lanes will just drive me crazy.
All I want is a windshield that won't cost a week's worth of work

Safety first, a car with no windshield and windows is much stronger structurally。🙃

How is this less distracting ?
I guess because you don’t have to look away from the windshield while driving
You don’t need to look down for checking speed or dash board which can cause 10m+ of moving

So don't distract me on a screen but distract me on my windshield?
that's not how it works
how can you be distracted if you are looking st the road
there is a 400ms delay between you and the speedometer in regular cars. which is in fact . distraction . but in this you are looking at the road always . and you get used to it
First texting and driving, now more tech to add to the chaos out there on the roads already.
My biggest issue with heads up displays is that they become super faint when you wear polarized sun glasses
Eyes on the road
I can’t help but notice the guy mean mugging behind her lol.

This is distracted driving.
You know simple speed or dashboard checking can move your vehicle several yards without front recognition right?
Nonsense. This is great.

Honestly, this is what i was expecting when HUDs first appeared, I love this but the real question is, Will it last a Florida or Texan Summer?
Solving distractions by adding distractions.
This is a great idea.
Just wait for the ads to kick in
The Last Star Fighter did it first! LOL! But seriously, this is cool tech.
Uhh. My 2011 car has this. A projected screen onto the windshield display. And the passenger cant see either. Just not as big obviously. Isnt this like normal?
How will this work when driving into the sun? How will you block the glare? Unless the windshield is also auto dimming.
How is this not distracting?
Can I watch movies while driving with it, would be great!

Hyundai is getting pretty good.
It was about the focking time. We have the technology since a bit while now.
I can do this with my phone and a reversed HUD on the glass. I'm surprised they didn't call this "the AI Smart HUD"
Yeah but the workaround ways never work as well as the manufacturer integrated way
And you'll see double image. Try it under bright sun and you will see when your phone is going to heat up so bad that it turns off to protect itself.

Watch movies , play games in the car- this is carrying things too far.

How are police supposed to see through the windshield ? If they can't then they wouldn't be allowed on the road.
