  • The 2022 AFL season was destroyed by injuries for the West Coast Eagles before it even began. The club said they'd learned their lesson, that it wouldn't happen again - but it did, creating the footballing equivalent of undercooked soup. In this video, the GAZ-man explores one of the worst non-expansion AFL sides to have existed, and how they got to be the way they were.

    As much as I dislike the eagles, it kind of saddens me to see them like this. It isn't fair that a team should get to this point let alone spend two years in that kind of a position.

      Very well said. I've never seen this kind of injury luck in my life, let alone two consecutive years with the one team.

    Hough is pronounced ‘Hoff’. He’s gonna be a gem. Good video though. These low points only make the wins sweeter. *West Coast supporter

      Cheers! Fingers crossed that the Eagles' 2024 injury luck gets better!

    The only thing that they got right, was to finish bottom and get the first pick.

      Honestly if I was North in that last game I'd have just given up at half time, got last and got Reid. Eagles have landed a very special talent.

    as an eagles fan the last few years have obviously not been fun, but who are we to complain? We last won a premiership only 5 years ago, what about freo fans? Nearly 30 years of existence and no premiership..st kilda only time in 66! Plenty of fans out there have suffered for longer, im sure we will eventually be ok, and sooner than ive seen many say i reckon

      As a Crows fan, I understand. 2020 would have been much easier to stomach if we'd won the flag like you did. Loved that 2018 Grand Final, by the way.
      Hopefully your lads will be up and at it soon, and Reid will go a long way toward that!

    Well, West Coast has just produced their first victory of 2024 in a great win over Richmond. Harley Reid showed why he could become even better than Dustin Martin and Ben Cousins successor to the title of The Prince Of Perth. Elliot Yeo played one of his best matches. And Jake Waterman had the best performance of his life with 6 goals. And as a Hawthorn fan, I am absolutely embarrassed that West Coast have won a game in 2024 before us. But congratulations to them. Their brightest moment in years.

      It's gonna be a long road for the Weagles but the last couple of weeks has shown there's promise.
      As for the Hawks, what's happening there? I thought their young guns would develop rapidly this year, seems like the side's gone backwards (same with my beloved Crows)

    0:08 I played netball for a decade and all my worst injuries were from falling over while walking down the street 😂 (I swear I took every layer of skin off each knee at least twice, in seperate incidents). but then again I knew a girl who'd be playing the same amount of time as me who did both her ACLs at the same time at age 16......

    This was basically 2013 GWS even down to the very very good key forward

    • @thegaz-man
      @thegaz-man  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Allen was incredible, especially as he missed basically all of 2022 with injury. Now that Williams can shoulder the ruck load I'm expecting him to stay in the 50 and rack up good numbers.

    I feel it's going to be a very hard few years for WCE but at least the supporters know there's a genuine rebuild on now. They can look at Melbourne for hope. 2013 worst team since 96, 7 years later won the flag

    • @thegaz-man
      @thegaz-man  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think they just needed to commit to a rebuild earlier. List profile got too old and injury prone to really be a factor

      Nah just the consequences of having to record in a tiny, awful apartment, and being terrible at audio engineering. Hopefully will be in a larger place with less echo soon.

    Was at the R19 game. First half was a bloodbath, what isn't spoken about is that West Coast outscored us in the second half (ik we had good players injured but oh well) and it became REALLY boring to watch. Did I boo SPS? Yep, was the only thing that could entertain me in that second half. Curnow 10 was f*cking surreal to see tho.

    • @thegaz-man
      @thegaz-man  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I agree, Carlton took the heat off in the second half, they could have won by 130 if they'd kept the tempo up.
      Also SPS dumped someone with an illegal tackle in that game if I remember correctly? Think he got a week for it.

    0:16 thats a lot, i only had a delayed concussion in my one season junior footy career (from getting pinned, or maybe pummeled holding the ball). altho i had a lot of general pain and weakness from hypermobile eds (undiagnosed at the time), but at the same time i think that the hypermobility can cause resistance from some injuries - i twisted my feet and jarred my fingers so many times without a proper injury.

    • @thegaz-man
      @thegaz-man  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've got hypermobile joints as well actually! I've definitely found that they can take a lot more punishment without snapping - but I've pushed the limit far too many times haha

      @@thegaz-man yeah, it definitely builds up. i played tennis and ran until i was 16 and overtime it got a lot worse. i hope you dont get any more injuries like that

      19 tocuhes, 7 tackles, very solid game indeed.

    The Eagles' percentage of 53 is one of the lowest since 1945, even lower than 2011 Gold Coast (56)

    • @thegaz-man
      @thegaz-man  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That really shocked me, seeing the Eagles below the Suns. They also showed how hard it will be to break the post war lowest percentage record (1955 St Kilda).

      All it would really take would be their opposition doubling their score each week
      It's possible but I can't see it happening...then again, I've been wrong plenty of times
