    Excellent work in bringing crucial and largely overlooked media theorists and sociologists into the mix. Their importance in media literacy cannot be overstated. And to think I was going to mention the need for inclusion of McLuhan's ideas into this series :)

    People should stop trying to fight new media and isolate people from it. Instead they should be at the forefront working to deliver the right type of media and educating people about media. Information can be misused but it's a great thing! I'm very grateful that I live in the information age despite all the propaganda, clickbait and fake news.

    English is not my mother language, so i played the video in some sections in 0,75x the speed. It's a lot of information for 1 video, really cool! And i even recap the videos after i finish so i can fix better the content. This is the first series of CC i really follow and i'm liking a lot. Thank you guys ^^

    This the type of education i need ... the modern world im 17 im finally old enough to grasp it but it seems the moment I go run with something the world starts over again and again and again consuming seems necessary but creating is the only way to rise ... wher does my security lie ... must i create and submit to ignorance selfishness and close-mindedness or consume Nd learn as much as I can to comfortably waste away trying to sustain middle class rank and some kind of health

      Dude. There is no answer. Find something that makes you happy, and don't rely on it to keep you happy forever. We're all still looking for answers. Ive read and learned a lot and that's one thing that's stuck with me.

    • @heyitsevan758
      @heyitsevan758 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I think that we overly obsess over objectivity and perfection in society. While it is important to do our best with whatever we do, no one has all of the answers. We are all learners in life. If you spend all of your time “consuming” and “learning” to reach a certain expertise then you will never be happy. Set out to do what you want and fail. Be selfish and ignorant and close minded. Then, be humble enough to take feedback and learn through your mistakes. Just do! Don’t be afraid if it’s imperfect or hypocritical or whatever. Just do with a desire to learn, admit your mistakes, and then grow. I know I am essentially repeating myself, but my hope is that it’ll give you motivation to try. Or if it doesn’t, then it’s a perfect example of what I said. We are all learning and even those who advise still make mistakes. But I say all this as someone who was in your shoes in the recent past. In fact, there are days I still struggle with this. But it is food for thought. I wish you the best!

      "What is missing?" Take Stanley Cohen's Moral Panic. The fact of the matter is R-rated movies sell less than the rest. Moviegoers genuinely enjoy genres from the rest. Teenage girls genuinely enjoy Taylor Swift. Americans genuinely texted a vote for Carrie Underwood. Moral Panics are merely an outlier for those statistics.
