Exploring Bendery | Soviet Town & Fortress | Pridnestrovia (Transnistria)| Moldova Travel Vlog

- Knowing what to call this video has proved slightly difficult, as the place can go by so many names. Is the country Moldova, Transnistria, Pridnestrovia, and the town Bender, or Bendery? Whatever the you believe it should go by, we hope you understand the fact we aren't intending to offend anyone. The politics are complicated and we were just visiting observers.
The town itself, featuring a beautiful fortress, is dotted with a whole host of Soviet flourishes, including a USSR clad cafe, statues of Lenin and hammer and sickles. Alongside these, remains of so incredible wall mosaics are still around the second biggest town in Pridnestrovia (Transnistria) that are amazingly well preserved. We spent a lovely afternoon in Bendery, on a trip that felt like transporting ourselves back into the 80's and the former CCCP! This included a traditional meal in a Soviet themed canteen in a very Soviet looking bus station.
This part of Europe is so scarcely visited by tourists, it's truly off the beaten track. By visiting we learned a lot about a place few people have even heard of, and we only scratched the surface.

Ohh lovely, are you from Bendery?😀
@@slightlyoffthebeatentrack7322 Yep. Moved to the US when I was 8 (I’m 25 now). Visited a couple times since.
That looked like a wonderful trip in Moldova. I have never had polenta. Thanks for sharing.
It's so good!
素晴らしい所ですね。楽しく拝見しました。よい週末をお過ごし下さい。
I like how the music matches with the walk in the castle. The castle looks like those that I saw in story books as a kid.
Haha, thanks!
A great great fantastic video. Really enjoyed watching your video. Hope you have a great weekend 👍 and you are OK and well 😊. Many thanks from chris 👍
Thank you! You too!
That's perfect music for your intro! I love the old monuments and memorials. I would love to travel through Moldova and ride the old trains. That wifi cafe definitely has on old soviet feel, a perfect place for borsch. I'm glad you got into the fort, illegally :-). Nice shooting!
Haha yeah, so much interesting history in Moldova. The soviet feel made that borsch taste even better!
A great tour guys, Soviet buildings, writing and just general surroundings look so distinctive, thanks for sharing this😎👍💕
Glad you enjoyed it! :D
Another informative and entertaining video of yours and your partner. You are so active and knowledgable! Hope to watch more video from you!
Thanks so much, that's really kind. We do our best to research and be as accurate as we can while still on the go!
I had to smile when you said you didn't know much about the place/area you were going to visit. You are a walking encyclopedia. Amazing capacity to soak up and share information. 👍 Fantastic, why is that not more widely known, used: The traffic lights. Amazing. I'd want to have a High-tea in that cinema foyer! Lunch looked yum. I'm a polenta fan. I'm glad to have seen the images in this part of the world through your eyes. Awesome. What an amazing castle complex. The history of it just oozed through the screen. 👍🎥❤️👋
Aww thanks for your nice feedback. We are just very good at reading information and then copying it onto camera...! Haha! Glad you could feel the history here, always worried we can not do it jusitce!
REPUBLICA MOLDAVA PRIDNESTROVIANA 🟥🟩🟥... aguante ahí Transnistria
Thanks for sharing guys.. I may never visit myself so this is nice to be able to follow you. Hope your weekend is going well.. Full View and Like..
Thank you! You too!
Now I want to dig into understanding this location and situation better. Is it still contested land? Does Russia or another country lay claim to it? Also, such a funny sight of the modern traffic lights in a town so clearly frozen in the past. Thanks for sharing your adventure!- Howard
The whole situation is fascinating to us. Partly because after Russia annexed Crimea, Transnistria/Pridnestrovia actually asked Russia to annex them too! Culturally there's a lot of Russians and Ukrainians who live here ( I think at 30% of the population each) so there are strong ties to that part of Eastern Europe!
I love the monuments you find. Those traffic lights are very futuristic and really unique - I have never seen anything like that and I would never guessed that they are from this part of the world. You had really interesting and lovely trip. Wow, you speak Russian? :) When were you here? Is it always so empty or is it because of corona?
This is actually last year, before any of us even thought about Corona. It's just a small country with few residents and not many tourists at all. I speak Polish, which has similarities to Russian so I have some limited understanding, which is always useful!🙂
Never had polenta but I love the great Soviet buildings.
Its a very nice, simple thing. Sure you'll come across it if you travel to Italy or somewhere else across the Mediterranean. :D
It might be worth visiting just for the bus station. I've been to most soviet countries so all of this is familiar
Haha, we've spent more hours then we would care to admit admiring old bus stations in the former USSR!
Wow! I love the music) and it’s nice you go to some Soviet Russian countries, have you been to Russia yet?)
Not to Russia yet, it is very much on the hit list...just a really expensive visa! Would love to spend a long time there going deep into the east, but looks like we will have to wait a lot time for it yet. :(
Slightly Off The Beaten Track really? How much for visa?
This was so great to watch! thank you so much for sharing! def an interesting location! you two are so cute together! keep up the amazing work! we just joined your youtube family, hope you can return the support!
Thank you so much!!
Refrain from visiting the territory of Transnistria, in the village of Kolbasna it is possible that self-detonation of the shells stored there is possible, Russia does not resolve the issue of their disposal, do not risk your lives!
Nice video🤗🤗🤗
Thanks 🤗
