Mr Tim i can't tell you how many times I have pull started a tractor with another tractor. I got a 230 farmall, and a John Deere B 2 cylinder pop pop. Well the pop pop starter went out and I couldn't get anyone to look at fixing it, so I pull started it until one day I didn't hit the axle just right to get up on the tow tractor. I remember falling and the tractor straddling me. Thankfully I had a guy watching me and he came and stopped the tractor.

I guess the main thing is to keep your equipment working the way it is ment to work. Such as having a starter that works. I found out that trying to save money at the cost of safety is not good and someone will get hurt sooner or later. I was the Safety/Environmental guy, (one of my many duties), when I was working, (now retired), and it was like pulling teeth to get people to do things the hard way...being safe.

Many things we did were so dangerous. I'm 62 and was invincible for the first 40 years or so. Only a trip to the ER and almost losing the battle brought me into realization that life would end any time.

It usually takes something very scary to make us realize how quickly it can end.

Lost a friend that I had known since him in diapers and me not even in school, last year. He had a massive heart attack at work (in Home Depot) Just fell out and that was it. Doctors said he most likely would have died if he'd been at the hospital when it happened.

Your story made me smile - been there and done that (and worse!). The recklessness of youth!!

At 14 I pull started a tractor that was hooked to the Grinder/Mixer with another tractor. I had to grind feed for the hogs.

We Farmed a lot when I was younger and I've done the same crap trying to get tractors started..lol. My daughter was with me one day. and she was 6 or 7 years old I made her drive my dump truck with the water tank to the other side of the farm. I was taking the tractor and I put the truck in gear and told her when she got where I told her to park to turn the key off to stop. She still hasn't let me live that one down because she was refusing to do it and I made her..lol

Done that been there. you're not the only one who has done just waaaaayyy to stupid things with "man killer" type machinery. Some times God looks after fools and I sure qualify for that. God bless and don't get killed.
