Macros are a great way to automate Excel; they give us a lot of power to interact with, not just Excel but other Office applications. Unfortunately, hackers know about this power too, and can use files containing macros to distribute malware to PCs and entire networks.
Microsoft is making changes so that any office files downloaded from the internet which contain macros will be blocked by default.

Thanks for the great content! Does the user have to be an admin to uncheck the box in the Properties menu?
No, users can unblock it themselves.
But an companies can have a policy to stop all macros, which makes unblocking irrelevant.

Will the macro run properly if I just save as the file?
Saving will make no difference. You need to either remove the mark of the web, or save in a trusted location.
I don't have that unblock option.🙁

Microsoft have had a few issues with this, and are rolling it back to fix the issues. So it's worth feeding back to Microsoft so they can get it right the second time.
@@ExcelOffTheGrid Turns out, I needed to add the Shared network location to my Trusted locations. It's weird because this never happened before and i'm on VPN.

Option isn't avaiable when you right click on the file. Nither can you add network location by IP as an exlcusion in trust center. What a load of bullshit from microsoft.
There are quite a few people struggling with this security feature. Make sure you send feedback so Microsoft know about the issues.

This doesn't work here.
Microsoft keep changing the implementation of this. I’ve now seen at least 3 ways. Until it settles down it’s difficult to know.
A sister company of ours has hundreds of excel files with macros on the local area network. Since microsoft doesnt seem to know the difference between a lan and internet, alle these files are blocked. i tried everything you said and some more but nothing seems to work..
Macros may be blocked by you IT department.
i am the it department. i did found a workaround by using \\[name server]\...

@@revanche1807 In our case i used this in the login script where you mount the drives:
when i use NET USE B: \\ip adres\blabla, macros are blocked
If i use NET USE B: \\server1\blabla, its been seen as safe and everything works.
Its a workaround, not a solution but for now its working for us.
How to force enabling macros?
You can’t. That’s the whole point of the security features.
