Had my base model a few weeks now......got the tub sprayed by a third party after getting the free 1k accessories pack in the deal.
The quality of the tub spray from Rhino Linings is a far superior product it’s approx 3-5mm thick over the whole tub compared to the 1mm tub spray you get as standard in the L or X....from the factory.
Super impressed in it & the whole vehicle...

Great Review.... I have Purchased the CannonX from GWM and love it, alot of the things you mentioned lacking was because your Review is the Cannon L version, the Cannon X comes with Reach for the Steering wheel and 60/40 Split Rear seat way better dash and Better Interior and a wireless phone charger. I Suggest to anyone to get the CannonX spec..its worth the extra to spend..

As long as you dont lose that in depreciation when you sell it. Hopefully the warranty helps with this issue but the current owners are very much guinea pigs in many ways. Early adopters in a car with an unknown crash test rating and reliablity that if not very good could tank the price. Current hiluxes and troopies are appreciating in price at the moment.
All said not a bad ute though. Nice to drive and lots of good features and nice interior. Just a real shame about that gutless engine and relatively poor economy considering its low power. It should have come with 150kw and 500 NM or more at least to future proof it against the new generation of rangers that will be here soon.

Hilux and Ranger now with a top spec going past the 70k mark it’s just insane for a dual cab Ute with a small bed and a plastic interior and sub standard tech , they are luxury car prices for a Ute that you cannot get the same load length of the standard Ute,s of the 80”s and a back seat no bigger than a small car !

I have a cannon guys. Now I’m finding everyone reviewing utes ate confusing turbo lag with pedal delay... once you fit a pedal chip that sharpens up the response on the pedal there is no delay. It’s built in delay from factory to stop wheel spin in wet weather. People think 400nm torque is nothing but it’s a lot and the power is very accessible in the rev range.

Nope it won’t. If you purchase through Ultimate9 in Melbourne they will cover any damages if it was to ever occur. However the pedal module doesn’t change anything that the car can’t safely do. It basically allows you to access the available power from the engine just quicker taking out the programmed delay in the accelerator. It’s brilliant. Just some food for thought. LDV allow them as a dealer accessory and other brands like mitsu Nissan Isuzu Toyota etc. it’s harmless but has gains

As a Chinese moved in oz, I really don't recommend this car, not the car's problem, but the dealership. In china, gwm can sell around 2 MILLION cars each year, they have strong dealership network all around china, and very cheap maintenance cost, like minor service cost around aud50-60 and swap engine cost around aud800-1000 including labor. Here in australia yearly sale only around 2000, gwm cannot do anything more. However, if just look at this car, I can tell you it has really really good reputation in china, same as previous steed. In contrast, MG and LDV are really shit brand in china, although they belongs to saic.

Hi m8 great channel I bought a 2014 v200 dual cab 4*4 and apart from a couple of silly things like the plastic radiator hose and a abs sensor cable a set of shocks it’s been fine, yes it’s under powered if you need to tow a horse flout or huge caravan but it’s geared tall, so if you get the revs up before you take off it’s actually good ( drive it on boost ) same said for most small turbo diesels, but I have m8s with bt50 s rangers blah blah and they’ve done gearboxes, diffs, some an engine, I’ve had none of that, I do my oil change at 10,000 not 15,000 as recommended but overall for what I need it’s been awesome . Yes some of the stuff is cheap but you bought a cheap ute what do people want you can’t have champagne on a beer budget, there’s unfortunately no Aussie brands to buy so unless you have to keep up with the Jones’s or you can offered twice the price for a bit more power they’re good value. Yes I would love to have a hilux, ranger , amarok but fuk paying 70 to 80 grand , mines been fine for me and ill drive it till it stops 👍

      city/country/off road & towing (van)...great machine yes.
But this new kid on the block ticks plenty of boxes ....& feels very Ranger like.
Super impressed with its zippyness for a less powered engine... throttle response isn’t too bad...but I may invest in a idrive or similar.
I also researched & drove a new LDV T60 it was good ....but the Cannon won out.
It has a great ZF 8 speed auto that’s well matched to the 120kw 400nm engine.
Constant 4wd - disc brakes all round - deep tub - rear seat legroom huge - none of which my Ranger had by the way.

Great review Paul, did you try setting off in Sport mode? I test drove the L and found it very laggy but sports mode seems to fix the lag. Nothing an idrive wouldn't sort out I'd imagine. The Cannon X is a big step above the L in terms of interior quality and definitely worth the extra $ in my opinion.
My advice to anyone thinking of buying one is join a GWM Facebook group and monitor how owners are going with their cars before you purchase. Did that with the T60 and glad I did! (Rust, over heating, infotainment being big issues with those)

Trusting a manufacturer's speedo for 0 to 100 is just wrong. At least use a gps speed reader please. Using their trip computer is equally inaccurate. You have to fill a tank, drive, fill the tank and then you can calculate the economy. Both guages in most makes are out by up to 10%.
Put in an idrive throttle controller and you will virtually eliminate lag and also have smoother offroad control. $300 accessory every turbo diesel needs.

And its a big improvement on the Merc version of the Navara interior. This is the type of interior you would like to see from the bigger players. if you paying 70k for a Ute it needs to have some decent ideas. The cabin is really tidy and smart. And is what people actually want. Electronic park brake is about time in this segment with rear disc brakes. And auto hold function as well? Why do Utes still have handbrakes in 2021? I can't believe when I drove a new Hilux last week that the price is 70k for an interior that is using the same switch gear as a 2009 Camry. I was so underwhelmed by the new Hilux. The salesperson was like . "Mate its a Hilux, just buy it." I suppose that just the Toyota way. They sell enough to not care. infotainment looks decent. Nobody uses built in Nav these days. Too many apps that are better at it. the rear looks better than Ranger which still has no rear air vents and Amarok no rear airbags. GWM have been smart in dropping the Great Wall name to GWM and also picking up the ZF gearbox. Thats a really good way to use other peoples smarts. over all , apart from the big power button on the grill ? this looks like the business for half the price of the big two? But will it past the Pub test. Telling your mates that you got a GWM Ute might be the hardest part to sell. Like I said , I not a big fan of GWM , but hats off to them for disrupting the game with all those features in this price point. Hopefully the others might lift their game.

      My 2 cents...
Forget the powered park brake. In my opinion they are overated and can be a hassle. If the Germans can get it right, im not sure the Chinese are going to.
But certainly agree with 99%of what your sayin.

Hi, its an impressive ute but Chinese government doesn't have the best intentions towards us Aussies, we should probably avoid these.

They're definitely improving, however I'll be avoiding Chinese made products. Their strong arm tactics, fabricated trade disputes and gross human rights violations should have everyone looking to buy things made elsewhere imo. Especially Australians.

They're made in Thailand, also they're a privately owned company, nothing to do with the Chinese Government.

What’s up with the badging? Am I blind or were the exterior badges different to the steering wheel and key badges?

The front one is different compared to rear and the one on the steering wheel.

The P is for POER the name of the model in other markets around the world (name was dropped in Oz for Cannon as its the rough translation of the word) thus its on the Grill and key. The other badge represents the Great Wall of China thus Great Wall or GWM and is on the tailgate and steering wheel.

just picked up mine X today. Very impressive. one question: how does the remote start work? The dealership doesn't know how to do it.

You should study the car before you do a review. You missed half of the features and did not mention the features on the top spec GWM. I bought this Ute and this thing is great.
