Great idea to use the bands. I was using small zip ties to mark the chickens who were broody but the ties kept coming off, whether they were breaking or the chickens were pecking them off i don't know.
Another what to keep the age groups separate is to get a different variety each year but i understand that a lot of people want more than one breed at once.
We did plan on doing that, then the store didn’t have 2 dozen of one kind. We usually buy fall chicks and just get what they have. We should plan a little better! But you’re right, sometimes I do want a variety with the breeds.

Have you found a better alternative? I have this style and they keep popping off.
No we have not. Some of ours have popped off also, but many still remain almost a year later. I do wish they were metal.
