Really enjoyed both part one and part two of this game demo. The importance of choosing compassion as a reward after allowing an enemy to live wasn't so obvious until the end of the game. I think you might have earned some compassion that you didn't mark down, such as when you let the child live. You could also have let Sara live at the end and got another compassion that way, so that your ending might have been better. I couldn't really tell what the range was on the table for determining your ending. Despite the mistakes that were made, I enjoyed watching the story unfold, and it was clear you had fun with it, and that's way more important than strictly adhering to the rules. Also, I love love love what you did to illustrate the tale for us, and appreciate all the effort you went to in making these videos so enjoyable. You've earned a reputation point for yourself and another subscriber!
Thank you very much sir! My memory isn't what it used to be, but I agree with you in that it is all about having fun hahahaha. We play, we learn, and one of the benefits of Solo gaming...... no-one is there to see..... hang on, damn, everyone can see my games...... LOL
The thing about sparing enemies is you dont gain Compassion, you gain Reputation. However if you kill them, you don't gain Reputation but you lose Compassion. The only way to gain Compassion is when specific encounter prompts trigger it.
Being the finding and defeat of the final villain the way the game takes you to the end, there is 1 thing I can´t figure out after watching this little but great series and after reading the pdf: How do you set the order of appearence of the three villains? I mean, the second was dead by the end of the game, but your brother, the first one, was still alive and around. You don´t have to fight a rematch with him before going to face Sara? And what about if the Final Villain defeated you? Wich of the remaining two villains is supposed to appear next?
Hi, thanks for watching and for the kind words!! And that is a great question!! Reading the rules I feel that it was written to have 3 different villains encountered, however, as it is an RPG and a Solo RPG at that, there is no problem adapting the story to your preferences. I think it would make for an amazing story if a previous villain turns up as the final villain. Comics and novels do this all the time, and brings shock at their unexpected appearance!! Also, the final villain is meant to be that, the end of the story, the great finale. If they defeat you, you have two options: 1. RIP character, maybe with an ending narrative explaining how your next character is a family member out for revenge, or how the body lies in an unmarked grave... 2. or roll to see if your character survives and create a new, 2nd final confrontation as per the normal game rules for surviving death.
Hey. Lovely play through. I started my adventure now and weave the story together by writing it as a story in the journal. It confused me a lot to be honest because there seem to be not much prompt for story beats outside the lines. For instance: “Nothing important on the road” ok, I write down that I calmly go down the road while a merchant passes me by and a family. Then I ask myself: wait, can I now interact with the characters I put in that story? I have a mission to kill a *enemy* (not sure I have to roll weapon/style on top of the battle stats already given - but how does he fight then?) The enemy will be in the next location. I enter the next location and ask myself if I still need to roll event then. I decide that that makes more sense and do so. I have to face somebody else. Intimidate and lose then fight and win. (Do I roll weapon/style for each enemy? But they do have +stats already.) I decide in my story to make a public announcement of duel because he is in the ninja clan and he might not want to lose face by not coming and so I made it into my advantage. Anyway. Now I want to go to sleep in the inn. Can I roll something to see if anything happens while I sleep? Adding background characters to make your story come to live makes me ask myself each time if I am allowed to interact with them. Then again that would be too powerful maybe … but it makes seems basic logic too. Still a lot too learn about playing this system.
Many thanks!! Regarding the details of the prompts, the gamebook would be 100s of pages if all the details were included. This way, the book is smaller and it allows our creativity to provide a unique story each time 😁
Yeah that would be more pages indeed. it does encourage you in the book to weave your own story with the story prompts. I'll have to come up with something myself then to deal with the added complexicty.
Loving the little cut outs!! Great game!
Many thanks... took ages to prep and edit though hahaha
Ooops... at around 03:00 I forget to make the Charm attempt for Katara (Possible Ally)... I really am getting old LOL

Your second attack against the dog should not have had +3
Umm why? Odachi technique has straight +3 Fight...
Might be thinking of the iaido technique.
