Great to hear about CX-50 changes. One more please - an 18” wheel/tire package for top line turbo models, silver with highway all seasons (not off-road). The 20’s are pretty, but not really needed for handling, and they ruin the ride on the crappy roads around here.

Picked up a November build 2024 CX50 Premium Plus a couple weeks ago and IMO and for my needs the steering, braking, and suspension is spot on, so the tweaks absolutely hit the target. Steering feels great and the ride is connected but not harsh at all. I’m so glad it’s not a floaty cushion like some of the complainers seem to want. I don’t find the seats too hard and neither does my wife, and in fact we love how they feel. I do wish the seatbelt chime could be delayed a bit until the car is put in D, and man, do I wish a hybrid had been available. I think that hybrid thing is Dave's "secret stuff". Otherwise we absolutely love the CX50.

A message to Dave Coleman from an avid (tell everyone I know to buy one), 2019 CX5 GT Turbo fanboy and ex owner of MANY Datsun's (but never a Nissan), especially 240z, 280z, 280zx and a 2002 Blazing Yellow Miata with FM 265BHP turbo kit (wife doesnt like old cars so we bought the CX5 Turbo)!
Please, please, please, axe the CX50, no one wants it and you can see that in the sales number, I get it, Mazda hopes releasing the CX50 as a Hybrid before the CX5 gets the hybrid, might boost CX50 sales figures for a while but it is 100% a waste of time, just like the CX90/70/80/60.
-No one wants a mild hybrid, they dont work, no one wants a rotary engine as a generator to power electric motors only, no one wants the CX70, people only buy a vehicle that big if they have a huge family, that is the CX90 (just put the back seats down and you have the CX70), they suck to park anywhere (including in someones garage, if it is long enough to hold this thing) and are a menace on the road as they seem to get driven by people who feel indestructible and entitled.
-Just build the CX5 with the Toyota Hybrid powertrain but with the excellent Mazda 2.5 (the hybrid with the Turbo engine offered together would be the ultimate) and offer the CX5 in a long version as a 6, 7 and 8 seater, build the Mazda 3 hatch with the same hybrid version available and also as a wagon, and of course, the MX5 that would be amazing as an AWD with the Hybrid system tuned for performance, you then have the entire market covered in 3 vehicles, done. Mazda no longer needs the 30, 50, 60, 70, 80 or 90. And if you really think about it, pretty much all Mazda vehicles with a "0" a the end of the name are not doing well.
-Only losers care if its rear wheel drive biased these days, stop pandering to those who buy BMW, Audi Mercedes, etc., those people know they are garbage vehicles, they buy them because they want to feel superior to others on the road (when they are clearly not).
    - *** Mazda owners buy Mazda's because we love the drive (getting there is most of our fun), the CX5, MX5 and Mazda 3, already look amazing inside and out, dont mess with it and please dont forget about us loyal Mazda lovers by hoping to sell bigger vehicles to low self esteem, big ego, Range Rover drivers!
    - *** Please, please, please get rid of all the extremely ugly, cheap looking black plastic on the outside (flat or piano) and piano black on the interior, those both really cheapen the look and are really the only cosmetic eyesore of any Mazda (look as how much nicer the Mazda 3, 6 and CX5 with colour matched wheel arches look).
-Make the seats more comfortable with much better, adjustable side bolsters like I had in my beloved and always missed 1982 Mazda 626 2 door, manual trans. (Acura orthopedically designs their seats and they are some of the most comfortable out there, follow their example) and while you are at it, get rid of B.O.S.E. (Buy. Other. Sound. Equipment.), Acura works with Panasonic to make the ELS sound system (in my opinion, the best sounding factory sound in any vehicle), Mazda should also work with them to make their own with similar or better quality.
-And lastly, 100% DO NOT get rid of the fully independent suspension on the CX5, make the blind spot warning less sensitive (always going off when vehicles beside me are 6 to 10 car length back so I drive with it turned off), make the Smart City Braking less sensitive (I have been very surprised buy our CX5 slamming on the brakes by itself several time when it thinks the car in front is too close (when it clearly is not, hence us being so surprised by it), we will likely get rear ended one of these days, move the rear seat heating and usb controls to the back of the center console where they always should have been and move the HVAC controls a bit higher to see/use easier when driving, just make the info screen fully touch capable as EVERYONE wants this. Perhaps make the CX5 2 or 3 inches longer to give it another 2 or 3 inches of rear floor cargo room space to clear up the small cargo room complaint (although I feel it has tons of cargo room anyway).
-Then pretty much change nothing else. The CX5 is the best vehicle I have even owned (and I have owned well over 300 in my lifetime as I used to import vehicles from Japan to Canada and would typically own 3 or 4 vehicles at a time before that), it is so close to perfect. No matter what else I drive, I still 100% feel that the only thing that will replace my CX5 Turbo is another CX5 with a full hybrid system (or perhaps around 38MPG combined without the hybrid if possible but still keeping the excellent Mazda 2.5 Turbo with maybe an 8 speed auto, similar to the current, bang on reliable 6spd), those few things listed above fixed (and it must be made in Japan or maybe at the Toyota plants in Canada that seem to be winning awards for their QC all the time, perhaps another joint plant). Do not build it in the USA, Mexico or anywhere else (the CX50 is terrible for QC with panel gaps inside and out, etc., I am not alone when I say that I will never buy a CX50 but I will very likely buy another CX5 (or keep the one I have, if the new CX5 is not what everyone keeps asking for).
**** If anyone reading this, also feels this way, please dont just like, at least put a small, short comment about it so Mazda can see what people really want. The more who voice what they want in the future CX5, the more Mazda can dial that in to be the perfect vehicle. ****

Dave, hopefully you can address the concerns of a number of reviewers regarding the CX-90 (& CX-70) - smooth out the jerkiness of the drivetrain at low speeds, soften up the seat bottoms, speed up the steering (fewer turns lock-to-lock) and make the center console between driver and front passenger deeper (yes, I know, there's a transmission down there, but, please fix this if at all possible.) Otherwise I'm ready to buy one of the two. Oh wait - please make a bench 2nd-row available in the top trim! This should be a piece of cake, and it's honestly the only thing holding me back since I have a family of 5 and want to put all 3 kids in the 2nd row. @@doloresvancartier4249 I feel like those are a safety risk, either cheap and break or cause a poor fit, both could add risk in case of a serious accident. When you unplug the seatbelt switch it just thinks you are buckled up which you would be and this doesn't effect the seatbelt function.

To Dave RE CX50 improvements: the biggest drawback for me (and the reason we purchased a 2024 cx5 Turbo P) is that the driver's inside door handle interferes with my left knee which seems to travel wider and rest on a more comfortable soft surface in the cx5...prefer the ergonomics/CX5 door design.

Not sure what yet, but probably a 3 or 30 as my daily driver just to get as much car as possible for the $. Features over size in the car I’ll be alone in 95% of the time. A 50 is intriguing now that I hear the details on off road suspension tuning considering the roads here are basically like driving off road anyway.

Ok, I think I can speak for everyone when I say the CX-50 is an awesome new model but, could use a few changes or additional options. Here’s a short list…
    1. Offer the 2.5NA, 2.5T Hybrid (make the 2.5 turbo version a hybrid for more power/fuel efficiency), & I6 (either NA or Turbo).
    2. Make the multilink suspension or a form of independent suspension standard. That said, have it tuned stiff like the current one, it’s a thing of beauty.
    3. Modify the auto 6 Speed Transmission to an 8 Speed w/ quicker shifts. Or at least shorten the shifts on the 6 Speed. There’s no reason why the CX-5/CX-50 aren’t in the 5 sec range for 0-60mph.
    4. Find another spot for the two Bose speakers (on premium trims) that are attached to the area where the door & window meet. They seem like an after thought and are one of the only “flimsy” parts of the interior.
Bottom line Mazda, if you were to offer 3 engine options (one being the I6), shortened the shifts, and had an updated suspension….nobody in the segment could f*** with you. Even if you had to raise the cost for said models (hybrid 2.5T & I6 turbo/na), most people would be cool with it. A CX-50 with 300-340 hp & 320-360 torq would kill everything, even with the current suspension.

I have a few suggestions for the CX 5 model.
Please let them know that some customers would like to see a full upgrade on the CX 5 and when the hybrid model is introduced make sure to improve the gas mileage and give customers the option for a panoramic sun roof to be included in CX 5 models and for the CX 5 turbo signature give the option for different type of seat color and material and for extra features in the top trim have the second row to include heat and cool seat seats. Let Customers have the option to make the second row to be Captain Chairs with an entertainment console with a wireless charger port and other standard features. It only makes sense when the hybrid model arrives these little details will be popping around in Customers thoughts.
Make it happen. Tell the engineers in Japan that the CX 5 needs a major overhaul and new features. I personally would like to see a Legacy Turbo Signature CX 5 that would let the Customer customize or pick three different type of materials for the seats and have the option of a panoramic sun roof and have the option to ditch the second row bend seats for two Captain chairs with heat and ventilated seats and have a removable entertainment console that included a wireless charger port. Have a Turbo Hybrid engine in the Legacy Turbo Signature.

I just picked up my 2024 Mazda CX-50 GS-L trim in Canada. Coming from a Honda CR-V and after test driving the latest model, I have to say the CX-50 looks and feels more upscale, with a nice interior and a large center screen (as compared to CR-V's small 7 inch one). The control knob might take a day or two to get used to, but it actually turns out to be a better way of controlling the screen. Plus, it’s more fun to drive. However, it does lack some functionality.
There are four areas where Mazda could improve:
    1. Space: Despite being 1 inch longer than the CR-V, it offers only 31 cubic feet of cargo volume, which is a whopping 8 CF less than the CR-V.
    2. USB Ports placement: The USB ports are located inside the center console storage compartment. With the compartment already being so small, having the ports inside is a poor design choice, as the wires get crimped whenever you put something 3. in or take something out of the console.
    3. Phone placement: There’s no convenient place to comfortably place your phone.
    4. Trip Fuel Economy Reset: Unlike some other vehicles, Mazda doesn’t offer options to reset the trip fuel economy automatically at every drive, at every fuel-up, or manually. This is a feature I miss from my 2020 Honda CR-V.

Always best to wait at least 1 model year (2 really) before buying an all-new production vehicle, unless you are willing to deal with more problems/issues, bugs and/or vehicle quirks. So, 2024 or 2025 would be the optimal model year for purchase of a CX-50 more than likely. That strategy worked for me on my 2022 CX-30 CE & it has been 100% problem/issue free going on 2 years now. When I purchased the new 2020 TNGA-platform Corolla SE sedan in its first model year it turned out to be a problematic mess & I ended up ditching it after only 2 years & 10K miles. Love the color of the CX-50 in this video btw.

What problems did you have wih your cx30? Mine is a 2023, and while there are some things I think could be better (sunvisors, center console lid, too slow of steering, doesn't always lock when I walk away), the only real problems I have are rattles that come and go, and poor throttle response from a stop.

    • @dystopia-usa
      @dystopia-usa 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@mitchellsteindler I haven't had any issues with my 2022 CX-30 Carbon Edition whatsoever, but then I have all the tech features turned off & only really use the backup camera & blind spot monitoring out of everything. I also have no desire to connect my smartphone to my vehicle or use it while driving in any way. Surprisingly, I don't have any rattles in the cabin even after almost 2 years now, & it's a pretty quiet/insulated place for this price/size segment. The 6-spd automatic behaves nicely in both normal/sport mode & the non-turbo 186hp 2.5L engine is plenty powerful enough IMO. I'm glad that my 2022 doesn't have cylinder-deactivation engine tech though - which is something that the 2023+ CX-30 now has. 🙁

But they need to offer the updated dampers as a replacement retrofit from the dealers but maybe soon we will have even better options like Bilstein or Koni..

Dave - I recently discovered something on my wife's 2019 CX-5 GTR Turbo.... I was under the car looking at things and realized that the engine subframe is bolted DIRECTLY to the unibody with no isolation bushings like every other car I've ever owned including my 2004 Mazda 6S V6 hatchback. I now know why that 2.5 Turbo makes so much bloody noise inside the passenger compartment! It does not fit with the Mazda's pursuit of "premium". It's a very off-putting quality for those of us who want premium but are fed NVH from the engine that says "midrange". The newer models of the CX-5 and this CX-50 are all built with the same directly mounted engine subframe. Shame on Mazda for thinking they were getting away with that.

Mazda is going up the ladder in both sales and reliability and build some of the best vehicles on the market. They are definitely better in my opinion then Japanese competitors Nissan and Subaru and slot in between Toyota and Honda and I'd argue if they had the same capital they could equal or surpass Toyota. The CX-90 and 70 are cutting edge and hopefully the reliability matches their track record so far. The Mazda 6 if offered with the inline 6 rwd bias awd and a Mazdaspeed variant could be what alot of enthusiasts are seeking. Bring back the B series truck with a similar drivetrain as the CX-90 and CX-70. We'll see where Mazda goes from here but it's exciting.

The CX-50 seats are said to be harder and uncomfortable compared to CX-5. On the CX-70 release it would be dumb not to have the entire horizontal break lights work on all trims based on the feedback I have seen on CX-90. Also, add some nice ambient lighting on both. Refer to a 2014 Buick Leather Enclave for ambient light inspiration. Nothing you can do but having to pull the entire engine out at some point to replace the in-line 6 cylinder engines timing chain causes me hesitation and is possibly a roadblock...FYI
