This video really had me in deep thought. It shows Badu walking at the site of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in 1963. The purpose was to “to awaken interest in a 1950s term called ‘groupthink’ in which a person is afraid to express themselves for fear of being ostracized by the wider public.” The spoken word piece at the end of the vid confirms this argument. "They play it safe, are quick to assassinate what they do not understand. They move in packs, ingesting more and more fear with every act of hate on one another, They feel most comfortable in groups: less guilt to swallow. They are us this is what we have become, afraid to respect the individual. A single person or event or circumstance can move one to change: To love herself. To evolve." I admire how this vid represents artistic, social, and political expression.
For it to be unplanned, I never realized how poetic this is. In the beginning when she begins to strip, the guy in red picks up her jacket and shoes as if he’s about to return her things. But then stops running towards badu when he notices her walking away without looking back and continuing to strip..maybe symbolizng how the people around us try to bring back the old parts of us that we desperately desire to shed. Badu hesitates to jog and unzips her second layer/jacket before finally committing. She continues her journey as she removes more clothes, receiving more stares and confused looks. She ends in a more populated area but perhaps a healthier internal environment, free and liberated. For that, she is persecuted by those around her as she sheds her last layer. I was about 9 when this video came out and everyone talked about it. I didn’t understand the controversy and now I do. However, it’s art and was way ahead of it’s time

This song is so Powerful. There is a Major Statement and message behind this song. It is safe to be in your true essence. Who you truly are. When she says “ I need you to want me “ she declaring in the video she doesn’t. She has always been ahead spiritually and she has fulfilled her purpose here in so many ways despite anything that has been said outside of her. I love you and thank you for sending so many different messages of ENLIGHTENMENT SO SOULS THAT ARE READY TO RECEIVE IT
Erykah Badu understood that President Kennedy was a Blue Blood who went against his own for the better treatment of mankind and was executed for it. Some of our artist are more conscious than we give them credit for.
***** She is aware of these people and what they can do if she does not perform. They are the same people who issue contracts in the music and film industry,

is that all that we see,is a beautiful Ass . Did anyone actually recieve the message she was beaming besides her precious shell. I mean she went to a place in the spot where John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Her message was about not being afraid to evolve. Hopefully you all get around the ass factor. That was really courageous of her to exhibit such an act of carelessness on her part. It could have went left for her out there in Dallas. She did it for herself and for us. Evolve everybody,be courageous. Shed the old feathers, grow some new ones. Thank you Erykah.
EVERY TIME I HEAR THIS SONG, I THINK OF MY BEAUTIFUL, 27 YEAR-OLD SON BRANDON, WHO WENT HOME TO BE WITH THE LORD, IN 2010.........I MISS HIM, SO MUCH....... I'M SO THANKFUL THAT GOD LET ME MEET HIM; I WOULDN'T TRADE THE TIME WE HAD TOGETHER, FOR ANYTHING IN THIS WORLD. GOD BLESS ALL CHILDREN, EVERYWHERE! BEVERLY MOSES
People saying they can’t believe this is 10 years ago and it’s relevant now, like the specific problems we worried about rn started like 13-14 years ago, it’s not just relevant, she was talking about this a decade ago we still haven’t fixed any of the problems tho
So, I'm like super late. I'm just now seeing this video and I was blown away for various reasons. One is obvious. Another is the message she conveyed, it's too deep for some people to comprehend or respect. Also, it was very thoughtful to use that car, that route and in broad daylight just as when the whole ordeal went down. Erykah, you are truly one of the best that has ever done it. Much love, peace and blessings to you and may more people "get it".
no she was born in the time she was conceived just she studied and learned her truth and was awakened. unlike most black people we are lost. she found her truth and purpose. doesn't matter when you were born. you have to seek the truth because it was withheld from us. and you will be awaken eyes wide open.
I remember when i was in middle school, my mom use to play this album . I didn't understand at that age the meaning of her songs , just the beat lol. Now at 25 , her song are helping me through episodes ❤of my life and getting through things. Everyone of her songs can relate to something happening in someones life. Thank you for your powerful music.
It had to take so much courage to do this. We live in a society where nudity is seen only as something sexual, when it fact nudity can have many levels and meanings - being nude or naked in front of people can also mean shedding your fears, shedding all the social norms and rules and brainwash, shedding trauma... Too bad so many people missed the point of this :) Will forever love this song and video and the meaning it carries! Especially the quote at the end.
The message is third eye .. third eye is when you come to the realization of this matrix you see the picture from outside and inside box.. this my type of women erkah badu expressing you don't need anyone or attention but just your self courage by lyrics and point of the picture it's dazzling ..

Ah, Erykah! Thank you for your consciousness, for shining your light upon us! Your words describe the exact state we have created on our beautiful Planet. I love you and thank you for sending so many different messages of ENLIGHTENMENT SO SOULS THAT ARE READY TO RECEIVE IT
Powerful, so many messages in this video that meets more to eye than most people realize.
+Tris A. I swear. I wish everybody thought like that.
bro what the fuck? I see you everywhere lol
Nicholas Gordon 😂
+Brit Bowers Indeed.
factx
Erykah Badu understood that President Kennedy was a Blue Blood who went against his own for the better treatment of mankind and was executed for it. Some of our artist are more conscious than we give them credit for.
+lamborghini_ Mercy wow
oh baby Erykah been konscious and positive since forever, nothing new
+Ernest crowder I agree with the small exception that she has performed for despots who commit horrendous acts of genocide and oppression.
*****
She is aware of these people and what they can do if she does not perform. They are the same people who issue contracts in the music and film industry,
+Ernest crowder agree
I feel so nervous for her every time I watch this haha
i see you everywhere
Sasha Guirand i get that a lot lol
+Will C When one can stick to the issue here, all nervousness dissolves. For me, this video is a rise in consciousness, very well taken. May I say thank you, Miss Badu & God bless you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Keep on keepin' on, girl! We love you!!!!
Renee Gregory I'm not badu girl! God bless u. o.O & good for u

FACTS! 😩
Wow 👎🏽🤨
is that all that we see,is a beautiful Ass .
That's a STUPID question . What you can't multitask ?
Garfield Harrison beautiful words😍
Garfield Harrison . very well said!!!,👍👍👍👏👏👏😇😇😇💚💚💚
Yea I jus saw the ass, didn't care about anything else
Thank you... sincerely... thank you.
She has a mean walk. Mannn
Boss shit

Yes sir
Erykah Badu is the truth and you hear brilliance in every note she sings..."Can I get a window seat"...Yes, you can girl. LOVE you,, Ms. Erykah Badu,
beautiful woman
+Shawn Cicero pretty good for a broad in her 40s
SHE WAS BEFORE HER TIME
she is before her time
no she was born in the time she was conceived just she studied and learned her truth and was awakened. unlike most black people we are lost. she found her truth and purpose. doesn't matter when you were born. you have to seek the truth because it was withheld from us. and you will be awaken eyes wide open.
#DontSayThatToLoud.
Kim Pettus still is
I remember when this video came out! I was like whattttt! 😲 And then settled down and was like I wish I had me an Erykah Badu Booty! 😂 frfr 💯

Such an important message, especially now...we need to hear this, and NEVER forget it
Its just a mock of jfks assasination hence the name of the song.
So mobody noticed the blue blood after she fell? #FakeWoke
One of the most underrated songs ever!,,
I'm late but your kidding right ,this song be on the radio all day long
You clearly a newbie or too young to say this is an underated song

I was so ahead of my time loving this song at such a young age
Where u from
Okay, I just thought about this video outta nowhere lol.
She ripped a Hole in history after this!
Exactly 🤍
i love how erykah, shes pilling back layers to show how we are really butterflies who are conditioned to live by standers of society
Million Man March on W/DC Ms.Buddha/ Elect Mr.Frahkahn the scenic view was Panaramic ! Thanks
2022 and still listening to a masterpiece, so much love to Erykah!

I wonder how many people from that day, have seen this video.
Millions
Someone commented on this 1 day and said they were there, and sure enough, I saw her. Pretty cool 😎
She's so beautiful and talented !
I love her
My mom loved this song, it brings back so many memories from when we we’re together when i was a kid
So did mine!! She use to bump this album on repeat!!! Oh the memories
Erykah Badu was woke. Before the word 'woke' became a thing on social media.
Now we say awake when we mean woke and woke when we mean dumbass 😂
Before it sold out. Before it became a lucrative career.
And still is!, she ain't dead, you know?
She has knowledge of self. She's a 5 percenter, she been dropping jewels
She was already in the awakening when the rest of us was just opening out eyes.
A songbird with an immense sense of expression and A BEAUTIFUL BODY
Her body been tea 😢
This is one of my favorite songs of all time. Thank you so much Erykah Badu for all the beautiful music you have blessed our lives with
The message is third eye .. third eye is when you come to the realization of this matrix you see the picture from outside and inside box.. this my type of women erkah badu expressing you don't need anyone or attention but just your self courage by lyrics and point of the picture it's dazzling ..
I really like the way she moves/walks .... Like a lioness .... 10/10
@@panamaanomalie8402
Ms Badu's self expression is beautiful and arresting (in a non threatening way) .... Not sure about the 'shooting' .... But I guess shocking points have to be made - occasionally ......
I'm just not sure 'if' depictions like the above can stir negative reactions in the minds of young adults - who sadly may not have grown-up in liberal-minded, creative, expressive, happy homes - ??
I personally haven't seen the video as 'sexy' .... I actually think the theme goes beyond SEX!
Be supa interesting to know Ms Badu's thoughts/reasoning behind the video 'shoot'!
All very thought-provoking!!
Lots of love xxx

Off on a tangent Panama .....
I had quite a few views of the JFK assassination film - it is absolutely awful what 'they' did to him - in public - at an event - as we both know!! I won't go into the ghastly fact .... But if I hadn't watched a particular film on the disgusting matter - I would not have seen the extreme nature of what was done to him! Rather know the truth - for sure!
And I don't as a rule go for ghastly stuff. Anyway, hopefully we'll all evolve in the right direction xx
@@panamaanomalie8402
Well ... Er .... The video was filmed at the location where President JFK was assassinated ....
@@panamaanomalie8402
And you know what Panama ... there are lots of people who are offended by basic nakedness - I'm not 1 of them!! First and foremost the humble human body is a vessel to transport us through our lives - it's not necessarily a sex-object ....
When I see nude paintings/statues I don't get hot&bothered!
But, I can well imagine that there's a load of people that don't like Erica walking down the street NAKED - or any other WOMAN for that matter!!
And if a man were to do it - all hell would break loose! Especially at lunchtime xxx
Saw her in concert the other day at the 02. She was incredible, projecting her conscious love energy to the masses. A perpetuating vibe never to be forgotten. Thanks Queen
Badu is so beautiful, I love her
Ah, Erykah! Thank you for your consciousness, for shining your light upon us! Your words describe the exact state we have created on our beautiful Planet. We need to wake up and realise, in the words of Seth, "The sacredness of live cannot be sacrificed for life's convenience, or the quality of life itself will suffer".
So dope... Erykah Badu is the only one that could've pulled this off!
Yooo I'm not gonna lie Erykah Badu got a nice body😂😍😍
traci jenkins that good natural body
FACTS,,,
Always did. I new she had a nice shape and beautiful facial features just cause I know a good looking woman from a mile away. Everyone else just now catching on only because she stippped down. If she never did this video most still would not be saying a word about how she looks.
She is absolutely a goddess! ❤❤❤
I've been crushing on Erykah badu since like 03 no lie fam 💯
no fast forward no mute needed I been watching this movie since a kid.
the video was beautiful i got da message her clothes represented the status quo ,opression, bondage, guilt, fabrication, lies, law, the system, obligation, tradition, whats called normal and negativity...and as she shed out her clothes she was shedding out of everything the clothes represented to become one wit herself and shy away from wat we call normal or right...she was evolving and becoming pure and a free soul...body was very nice plus ha tattoos goddamn she's a goddess...but i got mo from da video than jus ha strippen..i love erykah
Well said
Brilliant Genesis.!!!
Funny because she blurred her nudity to keep the status quo. I'm dissappointed. I was expecting to see her fully naked no blur.
@@ben-twenty You cannot be serious. Smh.
Genesis Folson yes bro iam at that point of my life where I just love me😇
She said she was suppose to be singing in the video but she was to scared but it's actually better that she wasn't singing and you just feel the video and message.
Kamisha Harris nice video
A beautiful song, a beautiful spirit, a beautiful philosophy. This experience has been… beautiful. Thank you.
