- Not sure if we're getting punk'd or if this is actually a different shoe, but this is our first thoughts on the tempo-ready Brooks Hyperion, which is the successor to the Brooks Hyperion Tempo, but also pretty much the same shoe. It's all very confusing. Robbe got his pair into the office right after we recorded, so stay tuned for the full review to get his real first thoughts on it.

I love the Brooks Hyperion Max right now. The best road shoe I've worn in a long time. I'm not really a fan of the high stack shoes. So I'd be curious to check out this Hyperion model as well....

I still have my pair. And that DNA flash midsole is great for workouts.
I think Brooks mostly focusses on "casual" running - And thus their tempo shoes are made for "casual" runners who like to throw in the occasional tempo session. So i guess they found a working formula for that specific audience and don't want to touch it. Anyway, I always loved the hyperion tempo, because they neither reward nor punish certain styles of running. Very easy to run in..Glad I got another pair in sale before those released

I got a wide foot and I fit into the Hyperion (though still snug) when the toebox of the tempo was too tight for me. Not much difference but it's enough for me to now wear the shoe so I'm very happy 😊
My first ever Brooks, that Hyperion Tempo (great iconic black/ice blue) I rate for best fit.
DNA Flash midsole is like a well damped racing car suspension, firm but super responsive.
I freaking love the caldera 6 and feel like every manufacturer is focusing on trail running way more now. I like trail running so I hope the trend continues.
I get it when Thomas says he’s gotten spoiled by shoes with more stack/cushion. But I still find my 2nd pair of the OG Hyperion Tempo (and now the Max) to be an important shoe in my rotation. I think it’s healthy to continue to do some running in a more traditional shoe that has flexibility and encourages one’s natural biomechanics. I have the latest Kinvara (regular, not Pro) but the Brooks is still the better shoe between the two. Yes, the Kinvara has more under the foot but it doesn’t perform as well so I’m using it more for walking.
Some people like low stack shoes and ground feel, a credible way that the running shoe industry might come back to low stack is on the basis of foot strengthening perhaps
I do think there's a difference to this new version - better upper, more arch support, I like it.
Kudos to Brook for keeping the name simple.
i love the brooks hyperion, the sole is the best part, the responsiveness is great for workouts
Brooks needs to expand its pro team and give everyone massive pay bumps bc they sure aren't investing profits in new designs & shoe tech.

They do have a complete line of peba foam racers releasing around the Olympics in 2024. All their pros have been using them for a bit now
Yeah ! I am rooting for them as a Seattle brand closer to where I live that is nice to local running stores and supports some decent pros usually they feel like slightly underdogs.
I love the Hyperion Tempo which has been my best running shoes of all time. I bought 3 pair of them. They are responsive and light which hit the spot. I agree that the 3 years wait kinda killed this new version. Also the lower price point $140 comparing to the old ones which were $150 made me think these are lesser shoes. I also don't like the colors but i am sure Brooks will have more colors available soon. I doubt these shoes will be my new replacement so i will likely need to try something else. Too bad!
I’d rather wait on the First Thoughts till after Robbe gets a chance to try it……
A little disappointed by this as I still have a low mileage pair of the original tempo in that awesome black and ice blue color way. I only use it for 5k races and such but it’s so fun and light on the feet! The DNA Flash has such a nice little pop that feels fun and fast

How can you say its the same upper 😂 the midsole is pretty much the same in terms of foam and geometry. But the upper is very very different.

I agree, too much of the same. I have the Adrenaline and the Ghost because i get em free from the Chiropractor through my insurance. Then i also bought the Levitate and the Launch and i swear its hard to differentiate between the 4. Just hardly anything separates them. The Launch is maybe the lightest of the 4 and thats about all i notice.
Brooks has been doing the same thing for 22 years don’t know why it’s a surprise. I will say the Hyperion v2 feels way more like a road flat and less of a daily training and the same as the GTS version.
Only good shoe brooks makes is the Aurora BL. They had something exciting and now they lost me.
I was so excited when I tried that shoe. I hoped they would use that exact formula of the DNA Flash midsole in other models but so far that hasn’t happened. If they make the Hyperion Elite 4 to behave more like the Aurora, I’ll be very interested in trying it. At this point, I’m using up my 2nd pair of the OG Tempo and enjoying the Hyperion Max a lot.
Fellas, for the same price as the Asics Cumulus 25 ($140), which would be the better value? What is up with Brooks, man?

This makes me sad 😔 I want Brooks to be more gooder at it.
Makes me sad that we can't sarcastically accuse Thomas of being bought off by the Brooks team. Guessing they are not his tightest drinking bros, at the moment. They need to step up their suspicious collusion game.
