Mahito Transforms into his final form in the battle against Yuji and Todo during the Shibuya Arc, and he starts to worry because he’s seeing something that makes no sense happening right before his eyes. In the world of sorcery, it’s a FACT that nobody, not even the strongest of all sorcerers or curses, can use Black Flash At will, however as he trades blows with Yuji he thinks to himself that right now Itadori is so amazing that he makes you THINK that he’s able to use it at will. Knowing that a black flash is what Yuji is aiming for, Mahito waits on it as he plans a counter strategy using his new form, however Yuji counters his counter with a surprise hit from his Divergent fist ability. It’s here where the narrator explains that Yuji lost his ability to use Divergent fist as his control over cursed energy got better and better, because the skill was created from a bad force of habit.. However ever since the battle against Choso, Yuji has learned how to control his Divergent fist which you Must remember isn’t actually a cursed technique and is just an interesting application of his energy. When Yuji does this, he throws Mahito off as Todo stands tall above the battlefield with only 1 hand, telling Mahito that the act of applause is an acclimation of the SOUL which brings us to the end of this fight as Yuji winds up one more time.

Takaba’s technique doesn’t allow him to kill people and he isn’t aware of his own technique so this wouldn’t be possible

No. Hitting one black flash makes your cursed energy control much much better, and therefore requires much less concentration to channel your cursed energy in the instant before you strike. Yuji vs hanami hit 4 in a row i believe, because he had todo set him up there too. Yuji also has his strength first and only gained cursed energy later in life, not how everyone else gets it naturally. Since he knows what no cursed energy feels like it’s pretty easy to assume that he feels it now that he has it after 16 years.
Knowing gege he'll spare mahito just to spite yuji.
