- Through a circuitous journey with many twists and turns, Del Harding settled down in a woods on the shores of Lough Derg over fifty years ago. He is the original beatnik; living a simple life with his dogs and horses for company and no electricity, but his love for Ireland, the landscape, his privacy and the fishing sustains him. A story about the old ways, monsters and wild tales, Fallon's Angler spent three days learning from a truly original character, before joining him on one of his boats to fish a quiet corner of the Lough for its famous bream-roach hybrids.
He can certainly spin a yarn this fella, what a character one of a kind🙂
Simply the best fishing documentary I ever watched...god bless you😇🙏💪...Grüsse aus dem Schwarzwald
Many thanks.
Few times have i ever come across anyone who is truly happy in life. This man is i think one of them
A truly fascinating, well made, film. Del seems truly content.
Thanks Paul
Such a good film. Watched this about 5 times now.
Thank you RD, it was great
fun making it.
So glad Del has these woods and it's obvious he has great appeciation for them. Not many can say they are where they want to be, where they find themselves!
Great
Thanks
For the video
fishing is forever
I hope Del’s still alive and well and doing what he loves .
He is! We write to each other every few months, in fact he has written a piece for Fallon's Angler issue 24 coming out before Christmas.
@@FallonsAngler glad to hear that, thx for getting back to me , I look forward to reading it 👍
A lovely surprise and a cracking film. Let's hope we see more of Del, his fishing, his dogs and his way of life.
Del boy ... you are no outsider to us .. we have always appreciated people who are close to the earth and the water...
As a 66y.o. angler who lives alone in the county Mayo, I understand this way of life... and I love it..
See you in the next life, Del !...
BTW.. I remember Matt Hayes vid with you , I really enjoyed that !!
😎👍☘️🍺
The old ways are the best ways, beautiful my friend
Beautifully filmed. Delightfully atmospheric. Thanks for sharing.
This is what we all should be human beings not human ownings . Fantastic bloke
Great insight into a real character who lives the way he wants to.
thank you my day has not been a good one until now, thank you
My mum took myself and my brother on a "working holiday" to Dels place. It must be about 40 years ago. I wasn't too impressed the 1st few days but settled into the lovely way of life by the end if the stay. Was an amazing experience for us as kids ❤️
A life like this is a dream come true!! Simple living,in step with the natural world.. perfect ❣️
Oh what a great video, thank you!
Brilliant. Fascinating man. Beautifully filmed 👍
Nice to see you still using an old Seagull outboard Dell.
What a brilliant insight into an alternative lifestyle.
A lovely film and a very interesting character
That was a brilliant bit of film making. And what a character! I'd never heard of him before but I'm now busy googling his books. So intriguing...
Wow different class thanks for sharing
Excellent video thanks 👍🎣
Lovely film; lovely man: I remembered his articles.
Such a fantastic life, a real way to live.
thanks for this, what a fascinating angler Del is, only criticism would be i wish there was more footage and tails from Del.
Lovely to see he's still going strong. Intriguing man.
Reminds me a little if Alfie solomons was an angler lol
Beautifully filmed what a caricature
Do you mean character? A caricature is a joke version of the real thing.
Remember seeing this fella with Mr Hayes
Total fishing maybe?.
👍
Well spotted, we met Matt at a trade show and talked about Del, five years on we tracked him down!
an intriguing film, excellent
Thanks Nick - a great story.
Really nicely made videos
This is what true living is
My dad's best mate del. Top man
nice thanks
what a legend
i loved when matt hayes visited del
I asked Matt many years ago about that clip, he was the one who gave us his name, how we found him though is another story!
The dogs, the tackle, the stories were great. Use a trace Del and don't go choking pike.
Think he was on a Matt Hayes episode.
Matt Hayes is mentioned in the credits @ 23.54
yeah he definitely was, this captures far more of the guy and what he's about, would be fascinating to spend time on the bank with him, must have thousands more stories to tell.
The original footage should be kept safe.
i seen the guy in the film on matt hayes show
This is Séamus Heaney poetry in video form. Go raibh maith agaibh.
Terry hern in 30 years lol.. Good film though, love it
He has lovely hair.
Hi Trusted Living :) JK
‘Looaaaaded, absolutely stinking’
Based AF.
well hes not broke, those lures arnt cheap, if he was broke hed have to fish like i do with deadbaits and sprats.
He still gets a tidy stipend from Wright's coal tar soap ,Vosene and Colgate toothpaste ,for his ambassadorial role for their product's .
Before deciding to make your "hilarious" comment, you should try understanding the words you use. A stipend is a predetermined amount of money that's paid to trainees, interns, and students to help offset expenses.
Oh and "products" doesn't have an apostrophe. Nice try at being smart though.
How original....WANKER.
He is also probably well aware that plurals don't require an apostrophe.
The use of an apostrophe is not purely down to plural or singular...but this video is not about grammar, it's about truly living and Del's story
Lovely video, lovely man. Watch Open Door to Solitude on TH-cam, very similar top video as well.
Where does he get his money from?
For the last 20 years he was a fishing guide on Lough Derg and ran bushcraft retreats on his land, Del doesn't need much money, no electricity bills, TV license, water etc.
