This Is My Life

What do you get when you combine a Celtic-Scandinavian Roots duo with a South African rapper? No idea?
We would have had no idea either, but when we (Kelpie: Kerstin Blodig & Ian Melrose) first went (2014) to visit Kronendal Music Academy in Hout Bay, Cape Town, we were greeted by a very charismatic and sociable young guy called Peter Parker Michaels.
He showed us around and looked after us. We were there to rehearse a few songs with the kids and youths - a very intense and wonderful experience.
We were particularly impressed by Peter’s positive energy - his whole manner.
We learned later he had quite a story to tell, and during soundcheck for the evening show a few days later he jumped up on stage and spontaneously rapped to Kerstin’s bodhrán and my low whistle.
In that moment we all thought: “we must try something together!”
This video is the result. There were quite a few hitches and it took some time but it finally came together - thanks to the concerted effort of all concerned.
Peter Parker Michaels has something to say and we hope this will get him a wider audience!
