To be honest, I've done that customarily. When I first grow lithops, I was taught that cutting roots like that is good at rooting.
But I also questioned your question,..🤔so I did rooting experiments. The results are in the video below. 😅😅

After the seeds germinate, it's important to keep the humidity of the soil at a moderate level. This is because small sprouts die when they dry up.
