Thank you for sharing your shift with us. I'm watching this with my 17 yr old daughter who is wanting to be a Doctor but is unsure which specialty she wants to choose. Your video was very informative .
Thanks for a nice an informative video of your life as an radiology resident! Would be nice if you could tell a little bit about your background and why you ended up in radiology etc😊👍🏼 e.g what is the advantages/disadvantages? Goals? Thanks doc
Im very curious about the dynamic with the consultants. So in the morning you go through the studies with them and they point out anything missed? What sort of things typically get missed with each kind of study? What's the attitude towards missing something? And how does it get corrected especially if the missed thing changes the treatment?
We obviously try to miss nothing...which is challenging while in our training. We will rarely miss something that will completely change patient management. Usually we will miss small incidentals or inconsequential things...aka stuff that won't negatively impact patient care
Do you have 24 hour shifts as well? In our hospital there are no 12hr shifts, only 8hr and 24hr shifts, but we're allowed to sleep during the night. (If we've got time for that. 😅)
As a CT tech, It's kind-of cool to see a night on the other side of where i send my images. Also considering an attempt at DO school and potentially going back into radiology in the coming years. Any personal recommendation/advice?
Completely depends on what stage of life you are in! I am pro-education, but it has to fit in with everything going on. If you are 50yrs old, I would say don't bother
Most radiology residences have overnight attendings these days. Residents doing LPs overnight ,I doubt it. Attendings probably do 1 every 5 years overnight.
Ethan Moses a bad night would be nonstop studies coming in while having to do many procedures. Nobody reads studies while we do procedures, so they just keep piling up while you are away
You said as an R2 you get to field the IR cases without needing to wake up the IR fellow. Does that mean you get to put in a catheter/wire yourself; i.e. would a senior DR resident ever be expected to handle an emergent embolizarion during an overnight??
As an R3/R4 we field IR pages. We wouldn’t do the procedure though while on diagnostic call. As a Senior IR resident and/or fellow, you would do the procedure
Dr Cellini how you manage such heavy night duty dont you take rest ... How you take care of your health after attendaning soo heavy night duty PlZzzzzzzzzzzz Reply !!!!!!!!
IR was around 500 applicants for ~125 positions last year. Granted a lot of those people also apply to diagnostic and get a spot in diagnostic if they don't make the cut for an IR spot. You can still do IR after diagnostic. The training time is the same if you play your cards right. Neurosurgery is around 250 applicants for 200 positions. You also need to consider that neurosurgery is kind of self selecting. Most people don't apply unless they are very competitive.
Love the personality, really brings light to how chill and understanding doctors can be
Great video! Very informational and a huge factor on what I want to do!
What hospital do you work in? Nice to know there's a high degree of resident autonomy there.
Somebody else asked this but didn’t get a response. Do you work with any PAs or NPs in Radiology/IR? What role do they play and how do they help?

What’s your sleep schedule like on nights? How do you manage the switch from days to nights and vice versa?
Mihker my sleep schedule is pretty messed up and I’m pretty much tired all the time lol. Our shift is 8pm-8am and I try to sleep from 9am-4:30pm

@@DrCellini can you give examples of what sort of things get missed on xray, us, ct, and mri?
👍👍👍...radio is not my thing but excited to see your journey...i will definitely take some classes in radiology (took few...kinda boring😂)
Are you able to make videos on interpreting scans while protecting the patients identity? That would be pretty cool.
See my other videos

Jolina Dinter no 24hr shifts for us. There isn’t much downtime in Radiology. The CT scanners and MRI machines don’t sleep, so we don’t either!
Hello
Please can you make a video about how you made your decision to choose radiology
Thank you
Are you going to be an interventional radiologist and do a fellowship?
What made you want to get into this field? And where do you hope to take it after your residency?
It has a mix of everything. It keeps you on your toes and is very humbling and challenging. I love it!

23, I just graduated from my X-ray program not long ago.
Do you work with extenders at all? (Radiology assistants)? Or do you do literally all procedures yourself? Like LPs etc
Most radiology residences have overnight attendings these days. Residents doing LPs overnight ,I doubt it. Attendings probably do 1 every 5 years overnight.
We have zero attendings in house overnight. Fluoro-guided LPs are done by residents.
@@DrCellini Are there attendings reading cases remotely in real time? Overnight attending supervision is the standard of care in NY.
What's a bad night like work wise for a radiologist?

Tips on getting accepted into Radd residency.
I noticed you got tired as time went by.

overnight starbucks?! 🤩
Is matching to an IR residency harder than a neurosurgery one?
Currently, IR is the most competitive residency to match into

Are Attendings ever on call?
Seems like a lonely gig
Smash that like
Do you use any sleep aids for consecutive nights? I use zopiclone +/- dimenhydrinate +/ Flexeril +/- trazodone
