    Hello Darell,
    This is exactly what I was looking for : Having a way to calculate shipping costs using specific formulas.
    In my case I am trying to do following:
    Calculate the costs of a product + shipping costs = products cost + shipping cost per each single kilometer * total distance in kilometers from starting point to destination.
    The idea is to provide a shipping costs for a truck carrying loads in tonnes (Let's say grain) from Point A to Point B. This means a tonne of grain carried over 1 kilometer will costs 1 USD and over 1000 kilimeters will costs 1000 USD. And if this truck carries 10 tonnes of grain the total shipping costs will be 10000 USD.
    This is what I am trying to achieve. Could you help with that please?
    Cheers.
    Martin.

    a few things - Hey boss - as always on point - I just wanted to add, notifications sometimes not sending can be an issue and wondering if you had a video about that or a way around that, especially if someone orders through paypal, will a new order email go to the customer as well. But managed to follow through and now have a way better understanding of it thankyou

    • @darrelwilson
      @darrelwilson  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey , thanks for the kind words! Notifications sometimes not sending can definitely be a hassle. I recommend checking your email settings in WooCommerce and ensuring that your hosting provider isn't blocking the emails. Also, consider using an SMTP plugin like WP Mail SMTP to improve email deliverability. As for PayPal orders, new order emails should automatically be sent to customers if everything is set up correctly. Glad to hear you’re getting a better understanding of it! Thank you so much for this tutorial. It's very informative. However, I do have one question. When creating shipping based on product category/weight. What if a person orders 2 different products that are completely different weights. How would I combine that shipping?

    • @darrelwilson
      @darrelwilson  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hey! Glad you found the tutorial helpful! For combined shipping based on different product weights, you can set up shipping classes for each category or weight group, then enable WooCommerce to calculate shipping per total order weight. Use a shipping plugin like "Table Rate Shipping for WooCommerce" to create more advanced rules that calculate costs by adding up the weights and then applying a combined rate at checkout.

      @darrellwilson Hey Darrell, I am working on a shopping cart in woocommerce. We have some items set at a flat rate of $10.80. We want customers to be able to purchase some of these items individually. So, I made a flat rate of $4.99 with the option of only being able to buy one of those items. When I add these items to the cart, the $10.80 rate and the $4.99 displays, but the $4.99 is doubled, and the customer has the option to choose the lesser shipping cost. It appears as though its making up the difference in shipping if they select the lesser shipping option yet I don't know if it will be enough to ship all the items. I know I did something wrong, and I know it will confuse shoppers. Any help is much appreciated. Thx

    What do you recommend for stickers and magnetic bookmarks? For example, if it's a sticker then it's $1.95 for shipping, but if they also want a magnetic bookmark, then that has to be $4.95. It could include the sticker for no extra shipping charge. Then, if there are too many to fit into an envelope for first-class and need to use a larger shipping box, then how is that done? Shipping has really got me stuck in progressing with launching my business.

    • @darrelwilson
      @darrelwilson  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      To handle shipping costs for stickers and bookmarks, use a shipping plugin that allows tiered rates based on weight and dimensions. Set up rules for different shipping costs depending on the order size and type. For larger packages, ensure your system calculates shipping based on the dimensions and weight.

    • @erikaknollenberg4558
      @erikaknollenberg4558 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@darrelwilson I had tried that and it became super confusing because it's a flat sticker with no height. After playing with the classes, if I have a base cost of $1.95 (which is first-class mail for one single sticker and I can get 33 stickers to weight 1 ounce but I have to take an example to the usps to see if they'll consider it lumpy or not). I use that base cost and then have a class for Magnetic bookmarks. They are not first class material (looking at a competitor's website). It's 4.95 for one, according to places like PirateShip (4.19). So, I created the following formula for this item: 2.50 + (.50 * [qty] ). If I run into issues with the sticker's being too lumpy for the usps, then I'll create a similar formula for that class. Thoughts?

    Great info, Darrel. I have a shipping class set up for a lot of products at $9.99 shipping each and I would like for the shipping total to add up for each item at checkout rather than just $9.99 total for shipping all items. Example, 2 items with shipping at $9.99 each and I'd like the total shipping to be $19.98 or 3 items at $9.99 shipping I'd like the total shipping at $29.97. Would I create the formula as 9.99 * (qty) for that specific class? Thanks!

    • @darrelwilson
      @darrelwilson  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Hey! Great question. Yes, you’re on the right track. To achieve this, you can create a shipping class specifically for those items and then set up a flat rate shipping method for that class. In the "Cost" field, use the formula `9.99 * [qty]`, which will multiply the shipping cost by the quantity of items in the cart. This way, the shipping total will add up as you described. Thanks for reaching out, and feel free to drop your questions in the comments below.

      Hey! For services like website development, SEO, and digital marketing, tax rules can vary depending on where your client is located. In Florida, some services are taxable while others are not, so you may need to charge sales tax depending on the type of service and client location. You should consult with a local tax professional to understand specific tax obligations for your business. To handle tax in WooCommerce, use a tax calculation plugin to automate the process based on client location.
