Thank you for the video! I just ordered the same heatsink and handles and after putting in the 2m/4m transverter I was worried I would have to take it apart even further. Love the story about the radio and wife. It made my wife laugh. I sold two guns, a radio, and a computer to purchase my KX3. Well worth it!!!

Just a hint: It's way easier to remove the screws at the sides and the old sideplates when you don't open the transceiver. Just losen the knurled nuts at the base a little and your done. (Maybe you have to remove one of the knurled nuts on the left side completely to manage to place the new plate over the microphone socket.) Later when installing the heat sink you have to open the case of course ...

I recently bought a used KX3 and have that very same carrying pouch. I'll be buying the side panels soon and glad to see it all fits in the pouch!

cool! Thanks. I got two of these. Building the kits at the same time as I install the Windcamp. Might replace the windcamp heatsink with one from VE7FMN, which is even more substantial. I am looking at running digital modes, so the extra heatsink is probably a wise investment. Reducing the heat, even by a little, can't hurt with longevity.

Great video, but use the thermal paste!

+SurvivalTech Nord ha, yes in fact since filming this - i did go back and apply the paste once I knew the heatsink would fit in the pouch.

ColdestMoon very nice. I'm sitting here with flu watching ham radio videos all day hoping my fever will break. Thanks for sharing :)

I went to the VE7FMN site for theirs (a much more substantial heatsink) and they don't recommend using the thermal paste since it dries out and then becomes an effective insulator over time. I suspect this takes a while, though. I'd instead use one of the better pastes like Arctic Silver for CPUs. In short, I'd, based on my experience, recommend using a paste, but if you work with computers, use one of the better pastes. The stuff that comes with the kit is cheap stuff.

Now that you have had the KX3 for a while, how do you like it, and was it worth the money you paid for it? 73, WA6HQQ
