Watch "A Knock at the Cabin". He was my favorite part of Guardians and he really surprised me in Blade Runner but when I saw Cabin it was like "yep, the guy's just legitimately good". The movie was hit or miss but his performance was excellent. He was the best thing about it.
His role in The Boy and the Heron blew me away. Voice acting is a different skill and you see that with a lot of celebrity talent really just playing heightened versions of themselves, the recognizability is the draw. But the Ghibli movies really look for names that disappear into the character and Batista nailed it. Theres even a bit of an accent and different inflection to his performance that I had to check if it really was him.
it was weird at first seeing him pop up in movies after only known him as BATISTA for so long, but he grew on me and his talent as an actor is undeniable. he deserves what he has, he has really earned it.
You can just tell that Dave really cares about his work. He's not afraid to show emotion, or look weak, or lose (like the Rock is). He doesn't have a brand built on a shoddy facade of toughness. He's just a big dude willing to give his all to the role he's playing.
That scene in Dune 2 where his character kisses Feyd-Rautha’s feet was what won me over. Dude doesn’t care about his image as a tough guy. He’s an actor, through and through. Massive respect.
I don't think the Rock and John Cena necessarily "couldn't do" it I think they just don't care. They're both capable of putting in the work like Bautista did but that was clearly never a priority for them
Really liked his preformance in "Knock at the Cabin" he seemed to have a lot of chemistry with M. Knight script, would not mind those two teaming up again for something big
He was great in that movie. It's what convinced me to look for any movie that he's got a major role in. He was much better than I would have anticipated.
@@MiketheratguyMultimedia Feel like M. Knight should create a character and universe around Bautista, one that is similar to those in Spilt and Glass. I mean McAvoy was fantastic, I think Bautista could turn in the same performance with the right charcater
Im a wrestling fan and im very happy for dave, he has come a lonngg way in the entertainment business from starting in his early 30s to were he is now. He was a great wrestler and now hes killing it in Hollywood so congrats to him
I love that movie and I want more of that world. It left so many interesting questions about what society looks like and what would happen to the Hotel after the end. And the casting was stellar.
I live in the Tampa area. Where both Cena and Dave live. Or used to. They still have places here and will see them randomly. Especially Cena and his Lambos. Ha. If you live around here you know what I mean. Point is that Dave and his ex wife at the time were always out in the surrounding towns promoting local business, charity work, and all that. And was known for showing up to cool places and basically doing impromptu interviews with fans and a plethora of stories of him showing up at elderly peoples houses to help them do yard work and paying for groceries. Not a person has a bad thing to say about him. I only met him once. He was with his wife so I gave a wave and he actually called me over to say hi. And he was lovely.
Becoming a wrestler at such a late age would have been really hard and probably taught him to learn from the experts. I think carrying over that mentality to acting is what helped him. He didn't just want to his thing and cash cheques, he wanted to be better and learn. And he keeps pushing himself as an actor. He keeps learning. Being open to learn is where I think Dave really excels and why he has had so much success.
Dave Bautista 's the man. He collects old metal lunch boxes from back in the day. Its just a wholesome image of Bautista geeking out over an old Dukes of Hazzrad lunch box at a yard sale. He deserves his success and more.
Iv always liked Dave Bautista's acting, so when I saw him playing Drax I was super excited. The crazy thing is he went above and beyond my expectations, I didn't know he had such perfect delivery when it comes to comedic timing. He really knows how to play that simple on the outside deep on the inside kind of character, iv seen a couple examples that just don't work or only hit the right spot once or twice in a movie but Drax was spot on the whole time. His "Its Kevin Bacon, he's not a loser he's great we don't hate him at all" line is one of my all time favorites
I’m stoked to see Bautista getting his credit. I haven’t seen any of those interviews (that’s just not something I look around for) but when the first Dune movie of this recent series came out me and my homie (another movie buff) sat around gushing about how far he hes come and how his roll in Bladerunner has been living rent free in our minds since we caught that in theaters
Bautista earned something that the rock and cena never could: RESPECT as an actor. The other two just can't take themselves seriously, so I can't take them seriously either.
Cena doesn't want to take himself too seriously, and that's fine with me, it's not what he wants to do. The Rock, however, takes his reputation and image too seriously even if he's in a comedy, so I don't take him very seriously. I will respect John and Dave as performers. Dwayne I'll just call an entertainer.
@@Deadguy2322forrealthe rock, yes. Cena, no. Cenas made it pretty clear he has no problem taking deprecating roles. The rock, however literally has a clause in his contract that forbids his image from being smeared.
I disagree with the Cena take. In The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, he shows a hell of a lot of range I didn't expect. I hope he reaches into more dramatic roles, I think he'd do fantastic
You can say that about the rock, John cena doesn’t take himself seriously. To me his comedic acting is way better than the other 2. I see Dave as a method actor, John is the comedic actor and Dwayne is just the Arnold of the bunch. They all have a place in Hollywood.
He really blew me away in BladeRunner. The performance he gave was so perfect for such a tense and nuanced scene. There are so many layers to unravel in that opener, that only a very skilled dramatic actor could pull off. I instantly empathised with his character, and it set in motion the emotional conflict you feel as a viewer, that comes with the territory of the replicant story.
I'm really glad that someone told me to pay attention to him in that scene. His performance was powerful enough that I hope that I would have come away feeling the same regardless, but that scene was the moment that he made it on to my radar.
@@Precaricat I should really go back and watch it again. I have only seen the film once, and all I remember was how enthralled I became as a direct result of that opening. I should give it another view with the context of the rest of the film in mind, and with an eye to study Bautista's performance. In all honesty, I should rewatch the whole film because it was an absolute treat, especially as a huge fan of the original film.
Bautista was one of my favorite wrestlers and is now one of my favorite actors. Not because he's some DDL savant or anything, but because he put in the work and made it happen. He could have easily coasted on his WWE fame but he didn't want to and hasn't. I'm happy for him, and as a kid I never would've thought I'd think of his movie career more than his WWE career when talking about him.
In fairness to John Cena he has really put himself out there in recent roles, Peacemaker, Barbie, Ricky Staniky, unlike the Rock he is willing to do roles that don't make him out to be a badass and is quite good at the comedy roles, even if he isn't as good at the serious roles like Batista.
He is such a figure to look up to for wrestlers who want to transition into acting and even young regular aspiring actors. His journey is no stranger to any other wrestler-turned-actor out there but how he managed to convince the industry that he is more than just a "brawn" talent is astounding. It would be amazing if he gets cast in a romcom movie as a lead.
The first time I saw Dave Bautista I was 8 years old watching WWE he had a legendary entrance with awesome fireworks he would squat and sweep left to right as the fireworks line up with his movements and blew my mind I've been a fan ever since. I would often choose to be him when we were playing with my friends, that "DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME" warning at the beginning of each match was promptly ignored.
Bitch please, James Gunn reckon Cena as the best improv actor he has ever laid his eyes on, there's no need for you to compare the two to show one's competence
He has achieved his goal in my eyes. I now think of him as an actor and have to remind myself that he was also one of the biggest professional wrestlers of his age. He is insanely talented
Yknow, the TH-camr Beige Frequency said something interesting about the Rock once - his career is inextricably tied to his physique in a way that even Schwarzenegger’s wasn’t. But Bautista… his career’s always leaned into more than just his physicality. In Glass Onion, he’s portraying a parody of the kind of guy he could easily get pigeonholed into playing.
Thats a very good point the day the rock cant keep up anymore hes gonna be one of those hollywood old guys trying to convince us they are fit enough to believably play action heroes. (Steven Segal)
Dave's first big role came when he was 45, similarly, Samuel L. Jackson's first notable role came when he was 46. And similarly to Mr. Jackson, it's always a great experience to see Dave in a meaningful role.
When I was watching blade runner 2049 for the first time I was initially surprised at his casting but it took a whole 2 lines of dialogue for me to be convinced, its really impressive
The way he 100% sided with Gunn when the whole past tweets debacle came out really spoke about his character; a rookie going directly against freaking Disney? That’s either peak dumbness or peak integrity and he def falls under the later.
The man famous for the 'Batista Bomb' has never made a Bautista bomb ;) He is amazing. I think my favorite role of his so far was in Bladerunner, there is so much pathos and meaning in every movement and every line he says. Even thou it was only a small part it is a haunting scene that stays with you.
His performance blew me away in the bladerunner opener. I had only ever seen him as drax so it was mind boggling seeing how good he was at a serious role
Something Dave’s really good at doing is acting with his voice. A lot of other wrestlers breaking into acting (the rock) kind of struggle with expressing something emotional through their voice, but Dave’s vocal range and expression is excellent. He’s able to go from sad to angry to excited to dopey, and how he acts with his voice plays a huge part in all of that. Also helps that he’s got a lot of gravel in his speech, makes his lines very satisfying to listen to.
He's also decided to slim down a lot as being in his mid 50s it's not a physique that he can healthily maintain (ie. no more steroids). He's really committed to his craft as an actor and not relying on the big brute roles that will only take him so far and that he can only realistically play for so long. I like seeing him play more softspoken and thoughtful characters like in "Bladerunner 2049" and "Knock at the Cabin". It may be a long shot, but I would love to see him win an Oscar some day. If he wants to and he takes care of himself, he could be acting for another 20-25 years.
As my favourite Wrestler growing up I was always rooting for Dave, then watching some interviews I found out he is also a very decent guy! I love him as an actor and as a person! Thanks for the video
Yes, I ❤BAUTISTA since his wrestling days but him as Drax was just genius. He is my favorite character next to Nebula. But facial expressions and delivery of his voice are just so captivating. Keep up the great work Dave. We all love you. 🥰
Yo Mr. Cavil! This your Horus for Warhammer!! I loved him in Man with the Iron Fists, but he really sold me on his abilities after his part in Blade Runner. Small part, huge impact. Keep it up Dave!
I was surprised, and acknowledged him as an actual actor when I saw his small role in Blade runner. His previous roles were okay. But for some reason, this role changed my mind. I look forward to his movies
Sadly haven't seen anything else than Guardians, so I can't speak for his talent, but I do admire a person who is cultivating his personality and not his brand in this day and age.
Of course I'm a fan. He has improved and put in the work to get where he is. You can literally see him improving in every movie he makes and hasnt let his ego get to him. He is just awesome.
I started to tear up when I heard he had to pull over his car and cry and couldn’t stop shaking while telling his wife. He knew his hard work paid off.
His work majorly impresses me, I love the variety of roles he’s taken and how so many subvert the “dumb, angry meathead” trope as a lot of his characters are very intelligent. Even Drax, the closest to the stereotype, has such a big heart that he subverts expectations as well!
Dave Bautista said that if a Gears of War movie ever gets made, that he want to play Marcus Fenix. And I'm all for it! I just hope that if a Gears of War movie ever gets made, that it will be done by someone who respects the games and makes it all about the loss of war.
Dave is legit a great actor, amazing even. Deserves more praise than The Rock ever has. He's shown his talent and it's range, The Rock always plays the same character for everything, yet he's one of the most expensive actors ever.
Him in blade runner was menacing and at the same time he had conviction and some slight hesitation and fear but but when it came to what he believed in he fought and died for it like the ending of the original movie like tears in the rain he will be lost but it happened a miracle happened and that’s worth dying to protect
If you had asked wrestling fans 10 years ago who would be the wrestler to break the mold and become a serious dramatic actor, I doubt anyone would have picked "the animal" Bautista. Dude walked into two separate professions with no one expecting him to succeed and established himself in the top ranks of both through sheer hard work.
He was fucking incredible in Knock At The Cabin I loved it He basically brought the movie from a 5 to an astonishing 9 To me, he will always be the guy who pounded Ryan Gosling's face through a wall
He is a very empathetic and emotionally intelligent man. Something that cannot be said for many other wrestling actors in Hollywood. His ability to express emotions is unlike the Rock or Cena. Even tho he’s a big hulk of a man you can still relate to him as a human because of his amazing acting. Bravo to Bautista.
As a wrestling fan. I saw the hype around Dave, understood it, but never considered myself a huge fan personally. And then he stepped into the cinema world and has been blowing EVERYONE away, me included. The crazy thing is, no one in WWE at the time (just before the first GOTG release) had faith in Dave’s acting career. And now he never needs to set foot in the squared circle again. It’s a beautiful thing and I couldn’t be more proud of a complete stranger.
Dave is absolutely on the right path as an actor. I just wish he had taken on this career even earlier. I remember seeing him on Blade Runner and being like, "Holy shit, Dave is amazing!" I'd love to see him taking on dramatic roles, and his recent change in physique goes to show just how much focused he is in delivering even more in further projects.
In my eyes, he's a respected actor. Drax was always great, his role in 2049 was small but it showed real class, and Cabin was just a super performance. Well done, Dave. I'm eagerly awaiting more
I almost feel like his size is a detriment at this point. He's very talented, but most dramatic roles are for average sized guys. It's kind of hard to relate to someone his size when you see them on screen. Especially if they're supposed to be vulnerable, youre seeing him and thinking, "this guy is a beast. What does he have to be scared of?" I do hope he gets the opportunity to prove me wrong.
@@fasfan I was about to say it'd be a great way to burn that stigma to the ground. The typical muscular guy gets to overcome something that his physical body can't. I'd love for them to explore something that covers human emotion and maturity especially with Dave as the actor.

He earned my respect when he stepped up for his friend James Gunn, when Gunn was fired by Disney. It takes great courage to stand up for someone, knowing full well that your career could be in jeopardy. Not many Hollywood actors would stand up for their friend(s), but Dave Bautista is different, he convinced the cast to sign a petition and everyone followed suit.
So glad to see Bautista get what he deserves. The dude has played an incredibly smart career, and has really inspired a ton of people seeing him go from WWE to just a straight up A lister in 10 years time. Absolutely incredible
It's really nice to see Bautista succeeding in different roles that allows him to explore his range as an actor. I will be looking forward to his future projects!

I’m so glad to see him being given the opportunity to branch out more and more and I truly believe he’s got the skills to really try his hands at a bunch of different styles and roles.
I still remember seeing him in the Scorpion King, and my absolute shock when I later saw his performances in Guardians, Bladerunner, Onion, etc. I've never been particularly fond of the performances by wrestlers turned comedian (like you said, Andre is a massive exception LOL), but Bautista just nails it for me. I have no issues with cena. The rock is just obnoxious and having him in a movie always weighs the whole production down. I like that with Bautista and Cena the movie can exist around them and it doesn't become all about their character.
I have gone through every single comment here, and very few are bashing The Rock and Cena. You like to make stuff up for likes?

I found him hilarious in Guardians but I found him amazing in his small role in Bladerunner 2049. I'm hyped to see him in more serious roles!
Watch "2048: Nowhere to Run (2017)". It's a short film in Blade Runner universe, about Bautista's character. I think it's on TH-cam
No. You found what the writers wrote for him to be funny.

Theres even a bit of an accent and different inflection to his performance that I had to check if it really was him.
wait what Dave Batista is a va in The Boy and the Heron? No way!

I've been steadily amazed at the range this man has. His portrayal of Rabban gives me chills every time I watch Dune.
I guess you could say he's a beast of an actor! ;)
He did what The Rock couldn't do
You mean have actual depth and emotion...like a character should.
The Rock just started calling himself "the biggest star in hollywood" like it was a nickname, and everyone believed it
Act!
Because let's see he's not
1. Egoistic
2. In his head
3. So full of himself
4. Understands the character
Lol i can add many more points...

He was a great wrestler and now hes killing it in Hollywood so congrats to him
How could you not mention his role as Everest in Hotel Artemis? He killed that one! He stood out next to Jodie Foster and a fairly star studded cast
I agree, how dare the person who made the video not take your pick into account when they made their video🤮
I was waiting for that one to be mentioned
Indeed he was great there.
*role
Dave Bautista is the greatest wrestler turned actor i seen. He can play any role and kills it!
Rock and Cena take themselves WAAAAAAAYYYYYY too seriously. That is the problem.
That John Cena shot @7:12 caught me so off guard

The 10 minutes he is in Blade Runner 2049 is f'n fantastic. His best single role, and his shortest (outside of Riddick)

Been a fan of the guy since his wrestling days. Took me a moment to realize he was playing Drax the first time I saw him. Great actor.
I'm so glad Dave Batista is getting his flowers. He's a better actor than John Cena and a WAY better actor than the Rock.
Completely agree with the bit about The Rock, he doesn't really act. But Cena is a pretty good with some actual range.

Bautista is a good actor, picks good roles and movies, and is a genuinely good guy. I'm happy for him and his success. He deserves it.

Dave's first big role came when he was 45, similarly, Samuel L. Jackson's first notable role came when he was 46. And similarly to Mr. Jackson, it's always a great experience to see Dave in a meaningful role.
He's a genuinely inspiring actor to watch, and it's clear that he really does his research for each part, no matter how simple the character may seem.
Dave Bautista is already better than Dwayne Johnson in terms of acting.
He always was
Dave Bautista is a cut above, so many wrestlers are good actors but Bautista has real range, and we're all hooked.
2:16 - Thank you very much, these few seconds make every video better.
When I was watching blade runner 2049 for the first time I was initially surprised at his casting but it took a whole 2 lines of dialogue for me to be convinced, its really impressive
He was always a lovable guy. Hard to not give credit to James Gunn as well.
The way he 100% sided with Gunn when the whole past tweets debacle came out really spoke about his character; a rookie going directly against freaking Disney? That’s either peak dumbness or peak integrity and he def falls under the later.
The man famous for the 'Batista Bomb' has never made a Bautista bomb ;)
He is amazing.
Why I'm feeling such a joy for an actor I don't even know or care before :) his career developed so well through hardship. He deserve it.
I was surprised, and acknowledged him as an actual actor when I saw his small role in Blade runner. His previous roles were okay. But for some reason, this role changed my mind. I look forward to his movies
I think his role in the Dune films is his best yet. The range he showed from strength to desperation to fear is incredible
Sadly haven't seen anything else than Guardians, so I can't speak for his talent, but I do admire a person who is cultivating his personality and not his brand in this day and age.
Dave is great. LOVED him in Knock at the Cabin.

Of course I'm a fan. He has improved and put in the work to get where he is. You can literally see him improving in every movie he makes and hasnt let his ego get to him. He is just awesome.
I still want to see him as a lead in a rom-com
I bet he could play that role perfectly. I would watch it.
we want it, we desperately need it!!!
My Spy is half rom-com half spy movie. It’s really funny but has a good story as well.
between the rock, John Cena, and him, Dave Bautista is the best actor that the WWE has given us
I started to tear up when I heard he had to pull over his car and cry and couldn’t stop shaking while telling his wife.
He was fucking incredible in Knock At The Cabin

I almost feel like his size is a detriment at this point. He's very talented, but most dramatic roles are for average sized guys. It's kind of hard to relate to someone his size when you see them on screen. Especially if they're supposed to be vulnerable, youre seeing him and thinking, "this guy is a beast. What does he have to be scared of?"
I do hope he gets the opportunity to prove me wrong.
Apparently, he has worked on losing his size and is quite lean now.

Bautista has serious acting skills. His comedic timing and delivery is calculated and perfect, and he obviously has the threatening character thing down pat. Looking forward to more from him in the future.

He’s an actual actor that was once a wrestler vs a wrestler that’s in movies
So glad to see Bautista get what he deserves. The dude has played an incredibly smart career, and has really inspired a ton of people seeing him go from WWE to just a straight up A lister in 10 years time. Absolutely incredible

Dave success as an actor is just wholesome, the man have put a lot of time to hone his craft and have totally pays off, I will not be surprise if one day this man is giving a speech receiving an OSCAR.
His story is so inspiring in a way, because I think we all put pressure on ourselves to have it together and have the career we want and established by 30. But sometimes the best things take time to figure out and execute. He’s didn’t even have a clear direction till 30 and is either on his way or at his peak career wise at 55. And what a beautiful journey it’s been, I can’t wait to see what else he does. I just love when you can see the passion and energy and the willingness to learn and take risks in someone.
As a 25 year old guy feeling down on myself for having no direction in life, still stuck with my parents working entry level jobs and only now finally learning to drive, while my peers have all made careers going and got married, yeah I'm definitely inspired.

While knock at the cabin ended up kinda disappointing me Dave Bautista in it is what convinced me he wasn’t just being cast for his name or as a one note actor. Like he’s an absolute delight in guardians, I enjoy him and his comedic timing so much in it, but it’s a lot easier to dismiss him as just kind of playing a version of his tough guy persona in those movies.
His talent has developed so much that his earlier performances just... don't even remotely match what he does today. He is a fantastic, and fantastically underrated, actor.
Dave has such range. I absolutely love him as Drax and he killed it in Dune. I hope we get a lot more of his movies to come
