The 2020 Nissan Rogue is Fine, but Falling Behind

- I review the 2020 Nissan Rogue SV AWD. While Nissan has made updates over the years to its aging Rogue, its older roots are starting to show. It's still a pleasant driving experience and the interior still mostly works well, but compared to the fresher competitors, the Rogue falls short in just about every metric. With current incentives, these shortcomings may be forgivable for some, but at its MSRP, the value isn't as strong as it once was. What do you think of the Rogue? Thanks to Nissan for providing this vehicle to review.

When I think of boring, typical, mom crossovers, the rouge is always what I think of
i think of a Rav4
This generation came out back in 2014, got refreshed in 2017, & it's due for a whole new generation very soon. It is show how behind it is compared to newer entries like the RAV4 & even the CX-5, the refreshed Hyundai Tucson & Kia Sportage
When you where going into corners felt great because of Nissan's "Trace Control" auto on. They really put some time in it for a last gen! Nice review!
all his reviews r nice
@@BobThe9534 I know been following since his first gen S2000 review 😊✌🏾
I’m sorry but the Rogue is trash
The CRV and RAV4 are wayyy better options
they Rogue isn't trash compared to those
Bob The how is it not trash? It’s a pile of junk
BASITH PH The RAV4 offers way more tech for the money
@@NileshR12 and reliability
I had a rogue as a rental for a couple days. Probably one of the worst cars still being sold in 2019. On top of being a lifeless bore to drive with poor fuel economy, the interior is so cheap and poorly assembled that the whole dash rattles on cold starts.
When I think of Nissan. I think "how long until the transmission breaks?" Its a shame too, cause they are able to make these decent looking and comfortable cars
Dillon you're right. The transmission (CVT) is a major issue in these Nissans. Also Nissan doesn't have the best warranty. I know first hand: I have a 2012 Nissan for which I thankfully purchased an extended warranty.
i dont think of tht
Flat bottom wheel on a Rogue is hilarious. Excellent review, Matt.
People shouldnt hate on Nissan or the CVT im not bragging for Nissan but if you do the maintenance on the CVT they can last quite a while
I don't hate CVTs but they are very sensitive to fluid changes (or lack thereof). Even assuming that maintenance has been done, I've seen Nissan CVTs start to act up at only 20,000 miles with the Enterprise rental cars I drive. I even had a 2017 Altima CVT that downright failed in front of my very eyes less than 65,000 km (roughly 40,000 miles). Granted the car still moved but it wouldn't accelerate properly and couldn't keep up with traffic at all. I had to drive it to the dealer with hazards on as it couldn't go above 40 km/h (25 MPH). I've also had a couple Rogue/Qashqai models slip really badly with engine hovering at 3,000-3,500 RPM just cruising at 90 km/h (56 MPH) on flat ground. With the crap transmissions they use and all the lawsuits surrounding these Nissan CVTs, it's no wonder why Nissan is in crisis.
I feel like the next gen model of this is coming soon in order for Nissan to stay competitive. The Rogue & Pathfinder are 2 of the older crossovers/ SUVs on the lineup so they both new a new generation. They'll probably adopt that newer 8-inch touchscreen design from the Murano, Maxima, &/ or Altima
Yeah, I'm sure the Rogue coming next year will be a nice improvement with a mix of the new Altima and Sentra interiors.

Not for car enthusiasts. Next breath: "this car handles surprisingly well". Good stuff. Also, Mazda offers a Turbo in the CX-5.
Lol its kinda sad that these dated crossovers are whats killing off sedans.
Elliott Carson and then those same people want to save the environment
lol
Agreed! Sad that those of us that still want a good car are gonna be stuck with trash like this or selling body parts to be able to afford a truck.
@@25brentharris trucks are very affordable especially with the discounts.
@@williamsaad6833 These manufacturers can afford to build slow selling sedans and high profit CUVs at the same time due to platform sharing, drivetrain components, etc., but they're choosing not to.
What the hell has happened to Nissan? I know that this type of vehicle is not the most exciting in the world, but compared to the CX-5 and even the CR-V, this is much more uninspiring and bland. And Nissan/Infiniti completely neglected their enthusiast cars. When are we going to see a new Z or GT-R?
Nissan hasnt been worth a damn in years. Hell even the Sentra nismo was a complete joke. I totally missed opportunity. The q50 pails to the old g35. A boring business wife car than the performance car it used to be
if they make a new GTR, it'll probably be ugly
The old Nissan CEO took money out of R&D to make the brand more profitable, but the new CEO has promised a complete turn around.
I am interested in SUV Vehicles >> Thank you for your candid and thorough review of the Rogue ...
The RAV4, Tucson, & Sportage all have normal automatic transmissions. Not just the Mazda CX-5
I mentioned the RAV4 in the text overlay, but I forgot about the Tucson and Sportage. Their MPG is so much lower than the rest of the pack that I usually don't include them in the comparisons.
A friend of mine bought a blue one. Decently equipped new for 25k. It's nice enough. But 25k on a 2 year old used suv. Might fetch you quite a ride.
Hey Matt. Off topics but I looked at a 5 year old video and not sure if you would see it after so long. But my question is if you can remember. I've got a 2015 SS. I'm waiting to upgrade. What do you like better? ZL1 or the Z28?? THANKS
It all depends on what your priorities are. The Z28 is definitely the more raw experience and a much better handler. Also likely more collectible if you care about that. If your main concern is power though, the ZL1 is the clear winner there. The ZL1 will also be a more comfortable cruiser.
i like the ZL1 better
If you’re going for the Z28 save your money and get the 6th gen SS 1LE. It’s actually quicker on many tracks than the Z28
@@aaronposteraro1986 it might be. But I love the Z28 look on the 5Gen.
I work at a Ford dealership and we've had a few of these traded in (as well as pretty much everything else in this class), and yes I agree the Rogue feels like it's behind the rest of the midsize crossovers. Nissan in general hasn't been very impressive recently. Even the expensive new Infiniti QX80 has that same cruddy low resolution 360 back-up camera as this thing. I do like these key fobs better than most of the competition though.
What is the life expectancy of the CVT transmission in a Nissan Rogue?
The backseat cup holders are a bit odd especially when viewing them through the rear lift gate.
hi Matt. nice vid. liked b4 watching b/c i knew it was going to b good
What is the best compact suv in your opinion Matt?
In all fairness there's a few I haven't reviewed still (CR-V, Tucson, Forester, Equinox) but my favorite so far has been the CX-5 by a mile.
Nice review. Wish Nissan gives you an Armada to review. I'll love to hear your opinion on that.
all his reviews r nice
@@BobThe9534 I know that. I've been watching his since he got his BRZ.

I had a choice the other day for a rent a car either a Nissan rogue or a jeep wrangler. I'm glad i chose the jeep wrangler.
Is the limited trim the best out there for the Rogue?
Their top trim is called the SL.
Matt Maran Motoring oh cool!
its annoying that the middle display is so nice but it doesn't display your speed -_-
*The 2002 Nissan Rouge is Fine, but Failing Behind
The Rouge was not around in 2002 so please do your research.
is that the qashqai? a good car for the price,at least in germany (around 20k euros)
Nope, it's the one in between the Qashqai and Murano!
I just hate CVT transmissions, maybe they’ll get better over time. So basically you can brew a cup of coffee while waiting for this thing to get to 60!
Nissan still makes vehicles?
yep
@@BobThe9534 I think you commented about 40 times in this comment section. Never seen this level of undying excitement for a Rogue.
When walking into a Nissan showroom in December 2020.. Here are some things to consider "How long until the transmission breaks... when will my warranty on the transmission expire, do they have a loaner in stock, will I spend a month without my car /Suv"... can I sell it to someone else and pray to God their transmission doesn't go out after 3 months... ( my current situation ), and I'm getting a Rav4 as a replacement vehicle to not stress about these things anymore.
warranty will probably last 4 36 months
Just a suggestion when you talk about the competitors that offer more at the same price point maybe it would be good to know what vehicles you are talking about . Maybe pop them up on the screen or you can quickly mention them. The make model and trim. So we the audience can cross shop
Did you see the last few minutes of the video? I did exactly what you're describing and also linked my reviewed to the competitors.
I'd take the ford escape 2.0
I agree, that Ecoboost is pretty impressive.
Isn’t 31,500 dollars almost as much as the Palisade? AND the Palisade has more leather stitching and patting!
$31,500 does buy a Palisade but it'll be a base model, which would have cloth seats and a lot less features, but honestly yeah it would probably still be nicer than this is for the same money.
Matt Maran Motoring Sweet!
What a junky car.
ur first
It’s so bad that Nissan decided to stop the hybrid version.
Love mine. Cheapest lease I could find but would never buy 1
review a Honda Odyssey
I dont know anyone thats saying my new car is going to be a Rogue. I still see them but it must be a look thing idk.
This has been switching places with the RAV4 for the last 5 years in terms of top sellers so a lot of people say that.
11:06 cuz fuck it why not 😂
nice The 2020 Nissan Rogue
All these types of cars are just like toasters and that's fine. They're priced a little high but they act like toasters they're used like toasters they're as fun as toasters. They're toasters.
the prices r ok
That camera quality...😵
I feel like the Hyundai Kona is the best one in the crossover SUV class, just bought my wife one and we LOVE it.👍🏼
but it's not as reliable as the Rogue
Nissan clearly seems to be coasting. I think Matt said it best when he described the positioning of the heated steering and sport mode buttons for example. They just saw some space and stuck the controls there. Also the interiors are SO DARK! It looks like a cave in that thing. Nissan is mid- pack and quickly falling to the lower echelon in this segment.
Just a rental and a car for people that just buy whatever’s cheap or do no research on cars sad to see Nissan fall off so hard
His face during the acceleration test is hilarious! 😴🙄😒
lol
Nomadic fanadic make's the same face.
This car is terrible. Terrible reliability. Terrible transmission. Terrible quality. Stop trying to tell everyone that this is a good car Mat.
no, good reliability
Bob The no, worst reliability.
I don't comment on reliability much because people's experiences vary greatly in that regard.
Poor Matt trying his best to not make the car sound like a total piece of junk
All of Nissan/Infiniti is falling behind. I own a G37 coupe and for a v6 it only gets 13mpg with mixed highway, freeway, city use. So annoying for such a slow car.
The ultimate vehicle for millennial soccer moms. There's so many of those where I live its ridiculous.
then open a used dealership and to sell other cars to the soccer moms
And who cares?
it's crap, i said it so Matt wouldn't have to, lol
Car companies are killing sedans for this shit.
2021 next gen Rogue will be a major upgrade.
hopefully
So old and dated.
Nissan will be left in the past in 2020.
These sell a lot...only reason coz they’re cheap and America loves cheap!
This car is made out of plastic.
a lot of new cars r today
This car isn’t even worth a video
ya it is
Looks outdated
u look outdated also
Booo the CRV and RAV4 is wayyy better
not way better
Bob The they are the CRV and RAV4 are better built and it doesn’t have that terrible CVT the Nissan has
skbuoy yeah but Toyota and Honda always have the quality
Nissan’s quality has dropped
