Nicely done as usual. As you head north, you will be headed into Bigfoot Country. There have been sightings along the 101, including road-crossing ones, so be warned as you head north.

Used to run that road every week, delivering Budweiser from Stockton to Crescent City

The highway section of the 101 looks like Hwy 58 going up the Tehachapi on the Valley side, but with less traffic.

What's to see in Willits? Go to East Commercial Street and next to the museum is the Mendocino County Fallen Vietnam War Veterans Memorial. It honors the 22 servicemen from Mendocino County who died or are still missing from the Vietnam War.

This is just north of me in Santa Rosa. Are you following me haha. Drove this quite a bit in a work truck from Santa Rosa to Ukiah, Willits, and Ft Bragg. Its a lovely part of the "veryyyy north bay", though the people there probably would not want to be considered part of it. The Costco in Ukiah is only a couple years old now, but up 'till then, they ALL made monthly Costco runs to Santa Rosa.

Didn't know about a bypass being built in that area as recently as 8 years ago.
It's also a rare treat to hear some copyrighted music as well- & from Tye Doobie brothers too!

Nice to hear some new deep Doobie tracks! I haven’t been to this area in 10 or 12 years. Very high on my post pandemic travel list. Hope to do a roadtrip to San Francisco from my home base of Vancouver, BC soon!

Im now living in the "other" Vancouver, the real one haha. But im from Santa Rosa. But hope you get to do that soon, preferable spring early summer when everything is still relatively green. Good luck on your future trips.

Great video as always! I used to explore US 101 north of San Francisco regularly about 5 years ago, but haven't really been since (at least not north of Santa Rosa). Your video reminds me that I'm long overdue for a trip 😺

I have family in the area and have been camping several times along this stretch of 101 and between Willits and Fort Bragg. I miss the area a lot

I remember the highway going through downtown Willits and there was that stoplight and you'd see that large sign overhead saying you were definitely in Willits.

I remember when the freeway went through Navato, Petaluma, Santa Rosa Geyserville ,Healdsburg, Cloverdale also.

@@biglos9d Yes. Actually the freeway ended at Santa Rosa

@@kenhoyer8601 im too young to remember that. But the Willits bypass is relatively new now. I can remember tree sitters stopping construction there. Also i believe the Cloverdale bypass isn't that old either, 90s i think.

@@nbarretto I think the bypass was in 1994. Used to big logging trucks passing through town. I was up there about a month ago and walked through town . Quite but dead.

5:15-5:23 The old highway takes off to left to go down to Ridgewood Ranch and on to Ukiah, but it's not open all the way anymore. I walked a bit down the road and it was a road, I'll tell you. On the right, CalFire's Howard Forest Fire Station was my very first station for CDF, back in 1987. Gas jockey for the helicopter.

Howard Forest got a new, beautiful and much deserved Fire Hawk a couple years ago but I will never forget and even fondly remember the sound of that old Huey as it rumbled to and from base. Remember the old highway too. Trying to remember when Mrs. Denson's Cookie Factory closed. It all seems so long ago now.
