Floating Oak Plywood Headboard With LED Backlight

- This is fairly simple headboard to go along with the oak bed frame I made earlier. I wanted to be angled so that its more comfortable to sit up against and I also think it adds a nice aesthetic.
The LED lights could be a bit more diffused. I might add something to reflect the light off the wall more to give it more glow.

Didn't know this is exactly what I wanted until I saw this video. Thanks so much!
can always use more Offcut vids! Love the work as always.
Nicely done! Not a fan of dark wall colours usually, but the colour of your walls with the wood look so good!
Thanks! I think so too
Nice looking headboard. Great film. Very watchable. Mahalo for sharing! : )
This was so interesting to watch, Tim! Happy to have subscribed! Awesome work 👍👍👍
Thanks Reem!! Glad you enjoyed it :D
Glad to see you back.

I love these videos. So precise with everything. What specific finish did you use on this project?
Nice one T :)
Cheers No!
Hello. I was waitinh for a new video from you😁. Great job. Simple and elegant. Can you tell me the model for the Makita drilldriver and impact driver that you use? I wish you a happy new year !
Looks awesome! A design idea (might not be an improvement) that occurred to me while watching you put the LEDs in. By putting them behind the edge strips, you've created a hard line when they are on. I wonder if they were on the back of the edges themselves, or on a strip placed where they currently are if you want them back a bit, you would end up with a more natural light without the hard shadow lines?
Thanks! I thought about that, but I wanted to hide it as much as possible. I did think there would be a bit of a hard line from it thats why I put the strips further in from the edge but it still created a hard line. I think if I were to put a strip of white acrylic or something next to the LED strip to bounce more light up that would have eliminate that line and give more of a glow
That looks sweet Tim - I assume the ply is out of the range from PlyTech. (why I ask ... we've had no headboard for over ten years, five of which I've been promising to make one 😎)
Cheers Rob! Of course. Where else would I get my plywood? Haha I was getting the "when is the headboard going to be done" question asked a lot, so I thought I'd bust it out in a day.
Amazing headboard.so simple to make. Are you going to provide plans for this headboard and combine the plans with the bed you made?
Thanks! Yes I intend to make plans for it eventually but I'm still not sure when I will have them available.
Fingerboard and headboard. 2 in 1
haha traverse along the whole thing without touching the bed
Hey man what’s the name of the color on your walls loved that look !
Thanks. Its the Resene colour 'green meets blue'
Whose shop are you working in?
Side stand is missing. Nice headboard !
its next on the list! :P
Simple work ,yet elegant.
Great job.
How come you didn’t hide the end grain on the edges of the backboard.
My only criticism.
Thanks! I definitely considered it. In the end I decided to keep it exposed as you don't really see it and I wanted to get it done quickly in half a day.
5:02, it's a guaranty, isn't it? haha
LED strip should have pointed up vertically up rather than horizontally which the final effect is not too much light coming through. Not too bad either.
Yeah I wasn't sure what the best way was to do it. But its good enough for me.
What finish did you use on it? and what grit sanding did you go to?
I used water based polyurethane. Sanded to 240 and in between coats
@@TheOffcut What brand was it mate? Cheers.

I don’t currently have plans for the headboard sorry. I will get round to it eventually but not anytime soon unfortunately!

Eventually....new video
I know I know :p
Looks awkward hafting to reach across that saw blade.
I guarantee you ,it absolutely is not awkward. All table saws should be like this. This smaller looking man just cross cut and ripped a 3/4” Venere plywood by him self, no struggle.
It does look awkward, and it did feel awkward when I first started using the saw but you get used to it with a bit of practise
