    Sonoff is still the least expensive Smart Switch option. Recently new devices like the Shelly have made major improvements to what Sonoff was making a couple years ago. Now Sonoff has caught up with their newest model, the Mini.
    Banggood: drzzs.com/Sonof...
    AliExpress: s.click.aliexpr...
    We don't have to modify the "Basic" model anymore. The Mini is built to be what we wanted from the Basic. It's small enough to fit in a switch box and it is ready to use with an existing 'dumb' switch.
    Their DIY firmware makes it possible to flash Tasmota, ESPeasy, or ESPhome without soldering and without a USB/Serial adapter.
    For the price, this is my new favorite DIY Smart Switch for home automation, and home assistant.

    A single or dual relay would be great as an option. most of my rooms in the house only have a single ceiling light so a dual relay would be a waste. but if I was rewiring and adding extra lights a dual would be a good replacement. great video, getting to the point where I might start a tasmota system in parallal with the current one to see how it goes. I've been using the Basic units and had no problem adding an external button.
    I have V1.0 with the large jump wires. There are 5 header pin connections behind the output terminal block GND--K_P--LED--KEY--3.3V. connect a push button across GND and K_P for the same action as the SONOFF push button. The LED will give a + output if the RED LED is used.
    Place a 220ohm resistor to the empty pads just above the KEY pad. You will now be able to see the SONOFF RED LED illuminate when the relay is ON and the LED output will function as well.
    Program the Green LED to OFF in the switch options. Will still flash green when connecting.
    The K_P terminal could be used for any momentary switched input.

    First off, DrZzs your channel rocks!
    I think the sonoff mini is really cool, especially for the price point. But I can't justify them, even at this price point, over a zwave wall switch.
    Since I'm going to have to put in a zwave fan control switch I may as well stick with zwave.
    Plus, there are two other factors that would deter me from this.
    1. Wireless saturation. I would need to add 19 of these just to cover all my non-3way light switches in the house.
    That is a lot of wifi devices to add to a environment at home that already has a high RF noise floor.
    2. Security. 19 more wifi devices drastically increases my threat surface.
    While I have my IoT/Home automation on its own wireless VLAN, that is a large threat surface to add.
    Zwave (especially v2) is much more secure than wifi.
    Not trying to be a buzz kill, just wanted to point some risks out.
    I'm running some sonoff basics in some edge cases at home. But just wanted to point out some security vulnerabilities.

    • @DrZzs
      @DrZzs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Imagine ability to setup a switch plate with motion, temp/humidity and a touch button everywhere in the house, without the need for separate 5v power supply.

    Figured I'd add some extra info here to possibly help some people out:
    1. For DIY mode flashing you can alternatively use a WIFI access point or
    use windows 10 as a hotspot if your phone doesn't support hotspot.
    Just plug in a compatible wifi adapter and set it up with the correct info.
    You will need to unplug your ethernet cable before starting the tool
    though for it to not be "confused" as where to look.
    2. If the tool crashes with a failed to execute script tool_01diy85 install
    python from python.org (windows app won't do it). This still didn't
    solve the problem (still missing some prerequisites) installing qt
    from qt.io (opensource one) added whatever was needed to make
    the tool run for me YMMV.
    3. You can use the DIY jumper pin (I/O 16) as a I/O after flashing with tasmota.
    As always DrZz, great info!

    • @DrZzs
      @DrZzs  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My guess is because you have to create the dimmer based on what kind of lights the user is going to connect to it. Dimming incandescent bulbs is very different than dimming LEDs.
      But I agree. Other companies have made dimmer switches. I don't know why Sonoff hasn't.

    In the video, when you shorted the switch contacts the light turned on. Then, when you removed the short the light turned off. Can you do the opposite? Meaning, turn the light on via gpio0 quick press and then short the switch terminals to turn light off, lastly remove the short to turn on? If so, then this would work with a 3 way and 4 way switches. Simply connect the 3way switch’s common to one switch terminal. Then the traveler wires to the 4way then more traveler wires to the next 3 way and lastly the 3way’s common to the remaining switch terminal.

    • @DrZzs
      @DrZzs  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not sure I follow exactly, but with Tasmota you can invert the function of the relay relative to the switch. So if the switch is low the relay is off (which would be the opposite of how it works by default). Switchmode is the command to change how the switch functions. There are a few switchmode options:

I have no idea what "Compatible Pairing Mode(AP)" means and why that eventually worked in the end, but it did.
    Updating to v.3.3 of the Sonoff software was also an ordeal - during the update, there's absolutely no indications what so ever in the eWeLink App that something is actually taking place. I was just lucky, cause my phone rang and I had to take the call. After I was finished talking and turned my attention back to the App, it reported update successful. This is ugly programming. There should have been some kind of progress indicator. If the phone hadn't rang, I would probably have concluded too early that things didn't work as expected. Lessons learned.
    Then after a successful update, I attempted the OTA after first fitting the DIY jumper. The Mini connects immediately to my Hotspot and running the DIY Mode Tool v1.2.0 (which no longer says "Brush Machine", by the way), trying to flash sonoff-basic.bin failed big time. It is stuck at 0% and nothing happens. No error messages. The Arendst GitHUB documentation says the following: "If the firmware update gets stuck at 0%, the Sonoff device could not reach the manufacturer server because your mobile hotspot does not share the Internet connection." At least - that's a clue. But in my setup, I have full internet access from the hotspot, so that shouldn't be the case.
    Now, there's another one of your fans further down the list here at TH-cam who says he has discovered that Windows Firewall settings can cause trouble - which he discovered, and solved. But the helpful dude fails to tell anyone HOW he solved it. If firewall is the issue, then the text over at Arendst is perhaps misleadingly saying that the Mini needs to connect with the Manufacturers Server (There is no firewall in the Mini). But the Windows machine where the DIY tool is running, may certainly have a firewall. So perhaps it is the DIY tool that needs to contact the manufacturers server? Which manufacturer by the way? And why do the tool need to do that in order to flash the Tasmota firmware - which most certainly isn't a Sonoff supported firmware.
    Beats me why such important information is always left out.....
    [Edit] I finally made the DIY Tool run properly by reverting back to Windows version 1809. Perhaps there is a compatibility issue with version 1903 ?

    • @DrZzs

      The state of the lights changes regardless of which method you use. The manual switch may point in a different direction when you change the state with the app, but the next time you use either one, it will toggle the lights to whichever state they are not currently in. It basically works like a 3-way switch. Just one switch is Mechanical, and one is Virtual.

    I have a question that I can't seem to get a direct answer to, and the web provides conflicting information: if I flash a Sonoff Mini (or Basic, for that matter) with Tasmota, can I still control the Sonoff Mini with eWeLink (and correspondingly, with my Amazon Echo smart speaker)? Your site seems to imply that I still can control my Tasmota-flashed Sonoff devices with eWeLink/Echo IF I upgrade the firmware on my Sonoff device to at least version 3.1, but then I read on another site (notenoughtech) that "as soon as you activate the DIY mode the device becomes not responsive in the eWeLink app and you no longer can use it, even if you select LAN mode". I already use a mix of "unflashed" Sonoff devices to control my poultry coop/garage/gate and depend on my Echo to control the Sonoff device - I don't want to give up that functionality when I use Sonoff Minis to control lighting circuits around our home. Thanks for any "light you can shed" (pun intended) on this issue.
