PLEASE NOTE: I have intentionally altered the harmonic progression of the last two measures of the round. (Call it creative license.) Because of this harmonic change, you should note that the ascending "pa-a-a-a-cem" in the second to last measure of PART 3 of the round, is DIFFERENT from most common versions of this round. I know there are lots of children, school choirs, church choirs, etc. that use my video to learn to sing this piece, and I apologize for any confusion if your music score looks different from what you hear on my recording. It was never my intention (when I first posted this in 2013) that so many people would be referencing this video for learning purposes. I'm thrilled and happy to be part of your learning process, but I thought I should at least point out this musical change. 🎶

This is my version of a simple yet pretty little canon called "Dona Nobis Pacem" (Grant us peace). I am playing the piano, and singing the round in three parts.
I use ProTools as my DAW, and Final Cut Pro X for video. If you enjoyed this, please share, subscribe and see my other videos. Thanks for watching! - เพลง
For those viewers who question the pronunciation of "Pacem," there are several acceptable versions. "Pacem" in this case is sung in Ecclesiastical Latin (also known as "Church Latin") which can be referenced here: www.ewtn.com/expert/answers/ecclesiastical_latin.htm I want to add one other program note: I have intentionally altered the harmonic progression of the last two measures of the round. (Call it creative license!) Because of this harmonic change, you should note that the ascending "pa-a-a-a-cem" in the second to last measure of PART 3 of the round, is DIFFERENT from most common versions of this round. The way she pronounces is it the only way I’ve ever heard it pronounced. 👍
@@richswww In this context (ecclesiastical Latin) I agree. But when I learned classical Latin at school it was pah-kem.
Encanto linda melodia!

I JUST found this!!! Brought tears to my eyes!!! We sang this is summer camp back in the mid to late 19 50’s. I am now 72 and I have tears in my eyes!!! So simple, sweet, and pure!!! Your voice is that of an angel!!! TRULY “BRING US PEACE” now more than ever!!! THANK YOU for sharing your gift with us!!! I will listen to this daily as part of my quiet time....💓☮️💓
Awww you are so sweet! Thank you for your kind words. ❤️🎶
Julie Gaulke Listening now. 🙏🏼☮️❤️
First song my Mom ever taught me & my brother. I was 3 years old and my brother was 4 years old. She would wash the dishes after dinner and my brother & I would sit on the kitchen counter next to the sink and the 3 of us would sing this beautiful canon. Such an amazing into to music and a wonderful memory. Love You, Mom💜
Same here, only sister instead of brother. Now I'm singing it with my daughters. My grandma will hopefully turn 90 this year and we are planning to sing it for her with three generations.
Asa asa asa goim cerdos
wish i had known it then to teach my little son. His voice was so angelic, he would sing a kind of freeform opera in the bath. i learned it at a dharma centre, and we sang it in rounds. one of the loveliest things to do with the voice, imv. I am certain must bathe the very cells. what a beautiful vision, of little kids singing this in the kitchen, with the Mom. ✨💕✨

Wow...such a beautiful memory of your mum. Touched my heart ❤️
Anyone from choirs class in 2021 and didn’t pay attention so now you’re trying to learn it no just me 😅👍
GURL SAME! I WASN'T PAYING ATTENTION
IM LITERALLY LEARNING THAT SONG IN CHOIR RIGHT NOW 😭
Meee
Bruh, that's like 30% of this video's views. People that didn't pay attention

My first or second grade class learned this in Catholic school at St. James in Falls Church, VA. Little kids trying to figure out Latin words! Ha ha! "Donut, no peas, pa-chimp" until some of the nuns heard us! Bang! A nun smacking a chalkboard with a ruler! No more of that!
We did learn the correct words and sang it for the Christmas Eve Mass. It was lovely. I will always love this hymn.
Our chorus director used this as a warm up. We all enjoyed it very much. It’s fun to stop at points and hold the notes. Great memories.
I sing this song for my school and it just brought back so many memories😭
This is perfect around christmas, on christmas eve our church choir sang this and it sounded so wonderful! Heaven on earth!
I sang this in middle school choir back in 2000. My best friend and I still sing this song now lol
What a brilliant concept this is. Just imagine for a bit that we are singing the same thing over and over, just at different times, and the result is so beautiful
My choir performed this at the Buchenwald memorial in Germany over the summer and hearing this still gives me chills.
+Petra Arkian okay yeah... I'm crying again. This piece is so beautiful, I certainly believe it is Mozart's greatest accomplishment, so simple and yet so powerful.
I'm singing this in my choir 😊
Two years later i read your comment😂
I also.

Extraordinary...harmony, sooooo beautiful!!!
Beautiful! Thank you. I could listen to this song all day long.
Beautiful! We just started this piece in middle school choir and have an unexpected virtual day I can share this for. Excellent mix on the canon! Thanks.
My aunt taught me all the parts when I was eight years old and we used to sing it together. What a beautiful memory you've conjured here. I've been back many times to sing along and look forward to doing so many more times. You have a beautiful voice and sound wonderful! Thank you for sharing this with us.
I am in Choir, and had this as a solo on Christmas midnight Mass. Thanks Julie Gaulke for making this! It's your best by far!
When I was a child mom had a tape cassette and I listened this song frequently. I loved it
So glad to have found this video! Many years ago, when I was a teacher, I taught this to my sixth grade students. They sang beautifully, a cappella, but I really like the piano accompaniment.
Meu Deus estou fazendo aula de canto a três meses e agora no trabalho estou estudando exatamente esta canção que veio me emocionar ao vê e ouvir essa mulher .❤
Give us peace - now more than ever! and such a lovely way to request it. Your voice is crystal clear. Just lovely!
Thank you. I have so many warm memories of playing and singing this song.

My teacher showed your video to us in choir class and I adore you! Your voice gives me the chills, you're amazing!
sou brasileira e amo essa divisão das vozes!!!!
Beautiful and simple... a chant almost, asking to grant us peace... and who doesn't need that
Excellent... such a wonderfully crafted learning tool! You're amazing, Julie. ♪
This lifts my spirit. It makes me cry I don't know why
Will teach this arrangement to my ukulele chorale. Beautiful! Thanks. Glad I found this video.
What IS perfect? I have no idea but this performance is in the pole position for the title - that, and beautiful, enchanting and heart warming.
This was beautiful . Thank you for doing this video . I am going to show this to one of my vocal students .
Beautiful voice, brilliant performance! Haven’t heard this in ages... 🌹🌹🌹
Julie- We've been using your video as an example in my girl's choir too. I feel so fortunate to have found this video. Simple and beautiful. It's perfect. And seeing how the 3 parts come and fade away makes it so clearly understandable. It made learning it much easier for them. It's so enjoyable to hear them sing 3 parts!
+Joe Pigg Wow, so glad I could help! Would love to hear them, if you ever catch them on video. :)
Gorgeous and soothing to my soul. Thank you!
Ich liebe diesen Kanon, singe ihn selbst wenn ich zu Hause keine oder kaum Zuhörer habe. Nicht das ich schlecht singe, aber Sopran mag meine Familie nicht. Sie haben das wunderbar gesungen. ❤❤❤❤
Oh no, why? It’s so beautiful!
Thanks, Julie! This is my choir's offertory selection for Christmas Eve. Very helpful!

I love this song so much, and today I even sang at my Music class 😁
Very simple but very effective, can't help but sing along to this. You have the voice of an angel Julie
i sang this song at my school concert :D
Really? and how did it go? was easy to sing? I am afraid to sing it, it seems very complicated
it was quite easy. if your singing in a group it gets kinda challenging cause TIME is key. each verse has to be in sync.
I did too!
Niiummy Sarang its very easy 😅😗
Me too!
Dam that HIGH note. awesome
Lovely, lovely, lovely... what a beautiful voice, what a lovely piece of music... Julie, you are truly gifted.
It took me way back, and I loved it.
I’m going to sing this at school
Beautiful singing! I just wish you sang m7 of V3 correctly so that I could use it as a tutorial for my choir.
Creative liberty - sorry. :( I changed things a bit to fit the chord progression that I was going with. It is different from the traditional version.
@@JulieGaulke -- Thank you for saying that. I love a 4-3 suspension. And your playing and singing, and the way you put this video together, is so beautiful and carefully done! But I am afraid I can't use it as a tutorial for my choir, either, because of those two notes (F-A instead of E-G). Darn. :^/
Yes, me too... darn. :^/ The video is so beautifully made.
So beautiful one of my favorite peace song 🎵 ❤❤❤😊
Thank you!
Today, I have to sing this song. I hope that they permit me to join ti their 'coro'.
I'm sorry by my english.

very beautiful voice ! I love it
中学生の時にこの歌を習いました。ふと懐かしくなって調べていたらこの動画を見つけました。とても美しい歌声で癒されます。今日だけでもう3回は視聴しました。今後もお世話になる予感がします。
Is it known who composed this? I always thought it was Bach because I remember hearing this in one of his BWVs....but I could be wrong.
The exact origin of the tune is unknown, which is why it is typically listed as "traditional." It is sometimes attributed to Mozart, but is most likely from folk song origin. Good question!
On my copy its attributed "possibly" to Palestrina.
@James: That was a different Dona with different notes. Lyrics "Dona Nobis Pacem" were used by other composers.
we sung this song when I was in Catholic school. Afterwards, whenever I remembered it, I tried looking for it, but didn't know who composed it.
It was Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart who wrote the music
C'est mon prof de musique qui m'a fait découvrir cette musique perso je n'aime pas
I'm singing this in chorus
Thank you so much for this, I needed to sing this along with someone and this video was perfect.
Bellísimo y solo podía ser de Mozart
sound great. its a pitty this "patchem... this isnt latin and sounds wrong to my ears... all english speaking people dont care... still nicely made
Agreed. I live in the US, come from Europe, this constant"patchem" is driving me crazy too.
For those of us who do not know how to correctly say/sing Pacem could you refer to someone singing it correctly or phonetically spell it out. Thanks
paazem
or better: paatsem...
Angelika van Coevenhoven Ecclesiastical Latin pronunciation follows rules that are more similar to Italian. Her pronunciation isn't wrong at all.
omg its really wonderful song you can learn so many lyrics.....For me its really quiet and peaceful song....congratulation....
Merci beaucoup de ce partage , trés jolie voix .
I have only sang this once before, but I never heard your version and very proud to listen to you sing this hymn, I really like the part where you sing three different tunes, I really enjoy it. Thank you very much for such a wonderful piece of artwork. Congratulations ❤
Peaceful , soothing and heart-warming.
Such a beautiful voice!!
That was beautiful, I remember that when I was in 7th and 8th grade. I hear the choir sing it in church sometimes. It kind of takes me back.
