Dude! Try going tubular! A couple of 4" (100mm?) PVC pipes, with the appropriate connectors and caps would give you a great platform and you could even hide batteries, pumps, etc inside maybe? You could even mount cameras, drink holders, dog treat containers... there would be no limit! Awesome stuff. Love it. Happy holidays all

Buy a cheap boogie board (or use an old one laying around) to use as your "boat". You can bolt fixings directly into it, just make sure you use washers with any bolts or they may pull through when tightened. Will be heaps more stable than a plastic container.

You could have used the noodle to circle the tub, it would add more stability and you should be able to shovel as much as you can. Love the thinking outside the box! Keep up the good work kind sir.

I was thinking the same: attatching lengths of pool noodle along the two long edges should improve buoyancy and stability. An outrigger setup using pool noodle lengths could be added too, if necessary.
Love that sugar cane mulch! 👍 It's a bit flammable though... 😬

We make pontoons here in the north of the USA to keep vehicles (ATV to full size Trucks) above the water when they go through when we are driving on the ice, this is required on some bodies of water. You can make the floats from 8" PVC pipe that is rated to be in the sun, UV exposure will ruin the pipe, fill with waterproof floatation foam and cap them. You cannot just trust the air inside as it can fill with water and then sink. Make a large overhead roof to keep the sun off you coated in solar panels to keep charging batteries and it will do more in a day than you will want to shovel.

Go to a boat shop and buy 2 small boat fenders and fix them to either side , or 2 litre soft drink bottles . Gaffer tape 2 x 2 litre bottles base to base and mount 2 each side and should give decent stability.
The caps would be at either end of the pontoon and could drill 2 small holes in very top of the bin at each end and loop wire or string round the cap ends to hold them in place

For the battery issues, Try moving to a different outlet in your house. If that doesn't work, Try cleaning the contacts on the battery and on the charger. If that doesn't work, replace the charger. If that doesnt work, try duct tape?
Also, A pontoon recommendation: Get one more cleaning bucket. Stand your sluice between the two with a gap in the middle.
One brick in one bucket and the battery in the other bucket
Duct tape the legs to the inside walls of each bucket.
Balance as desired with rocks from the creek.
    Happy Engineering!

Chris, you hit the nail on the head with "Berring Sea Gold" - you need spuds on your rig. Two rings of PVC pipe pointing down, one on either side with a sharp stick into the mud to give stability. It will rise and fall on the water without tipping over.

Try a large inflated tire inner-tube as your floating base. Can be deflated for transport. Large truck tire should be stable enough to stack a feeder system or pre-classifier. Inflate tube over your base unit for a snug fit. 360 degree pontoon. Bring a bike tire patch kit. ;)

Aside from the pontoon option, maybe put it on a body board. Anything that falls over the edge of the high banker could easily be washed off. Could carve in a battery holder too. Comes with tow strap already attached. If you needed more ballast, strap some weight underneath.

Good on ya Mate! Your out-rigger is a solid idea. I would use the pool noodle doubled and on a frame held 50cm away from the tub and just out of reach from the discharge. Attach it by two pipes running back to and zip-tied to the tub. Hope this makes sense. On the charger, unplug it and tap it on the floor a couple times. Then plug it back in to test it. If that don't work, beat the living crap out of it and go get another from a second hand store. "Sluice Dog" Great name for it!

Great idea Chris! A small 2” dredge frame and floats and sluice would be the ticket. It would be light and portable and then you could use the gas pump to supply the water into the spray bars. Then you could shovel away until your arms or old man back gives out. I actually built a 2” dredge from a highbanker I made using the same concepts. The video is on my channel @ Ancells Adventures I’ll post a link below this comment. See if it gives you some ideas. Good stuff Chris keep the ideas coming!!

May I suggest 'spuds' on each corner to raise it above the water and keep it super stable? PVC pipes would work no worries. Or a small Bunno's folding table with your stuff on top you just sit in the creek.

  • @Mick_Tee
    @Mick_Tee 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Definitely need to use a couple of outriggers instead of a tub. Although a half dozen pool noodles with conduit shoved up the guts for rigidity may be more convenient for transportation.
As for the batteries, I have found shoving them in the freezer for a few hours before sticking them on the charger can often rejuvenate them to some extent.

I did sthing similar:, sluice, square bucket, alilulim profiles, board, epump, legs an option and wheels because I had to drag it to the creek. Basically it was, and still is, a kind of cart to drag or put behind your bike. Wheels are floats too. Build your thing, get the weight, calculate needed uplift, choose tire size/volume relative to needed uplift.

  • @Jake12220
    @Jake12220 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

I think four dare bottles duct taped together and held out by the remaining pvc pipe on the sluice outflow side would fix most of the stability issue. You only need one outrigger, it just needs to be attached firmly (lots of tape in this case) and have enough weight or pressure to maintain stability.
I would suggest concept clearly proven. Now to make a ten inch version on a boogie board so you and mick can continuously feed it.

chris, ive got an idea. the black box your useing can be stabilized easily with the pool noodle. cut th noodle in half and secure it with zip ties or duck tape, on each side of the box length wise. ( like a Catamaran boat) . then reset your mini sluice length wise and set your elevations in a kiddy pool at home first. then when your happy with your results at home in the pool . then when you go to the stream ,pound a piece of rebar into the stream bottom to keep it still when you shovel dirt . i will moke up a drawing of my thoughts.Im pretty sure this will help.

Totally great idea, thinking outside of the box you are. Try using 2 tubs, one for the battery and pump, and the other for the sluce. The sluce float, add 4 adjustable PVC pipes, one for each corner that you could lower onto the bottom of the creek. The sluce would be fairly stable and who cares if it gets a little water in the bottom, the battery is floating just a couple feet away, high and dry. The fact that you don't have to walk each shovel full to the edge of the creek is brilliant! Really like your videos.

I love it! Let me know if you want a hand with the pontoon, cause that's what it needs!
That's nothing some PVC tubing & plumbers glue won't fix.
As for the batteries, sometimes some cells discharge more than other's, and as a result, the charger see's that as an un-balanced fault, and won't charge.
You 'can' sometimes fix that by pulling the battery apart, & checking each individual cell with a multi-meter, and then use a fully charged cell to pump direct charge into the most depleted cells, so that all the cells then end up with a similar charge. After that, the charger will probably work on that battery again, but I have to admit, it's a fair bit of dicking around.

I like the 2-pontoon idea. They could be linked by broomsticks & the HB set in the middle. Solves the rocking issue & the taking on water issue. You could also mount a lower tailings sluice between the sticks. The 2 pontoon boxes can carry supplies (as ballast). An additional small anchor on one or both ends could secure movement downstream.

I had thought of something very much like what you have come up with here. My idea was to put the noodles on a regular sluice box with stabilizers out the sides to put in a river. If you put a tarp on the front of the box and anchor the tarp to the river bed, you could shovel dirt into the tarp and it should flow up and into the sluice box. I haven't done it yet so I don't know if it will work. Your experiment here has given me hope and some motivation to go forward with my thoughts. If someone has an idea as how to anchor the tarp to the river bed, it might help.

Those rocks you had in your little boat thingy were serving as ballast, if you just took a bigish longish rock and used the stretchy thingos with the hooks on the end to hold the big rock to the bottom of your boat thingy (under and in the water ) that would serve as a more stabilizing ballast. Did you ever have one of those LEGO oil tanker ships in your bath as a kid ? If you put the boat in the water without the ballast it would tip/turn over. I think if you used two pool noddles and set them up like a catamaran it would even be more stable.

Get some abs tube from the hardware store and duct tape it to the sides of the box about where it sits in the water before you added the stone to weigh it down... Then put the rock in and it should be super stable

Put some square section polystyrene around that tub and it'll work like a charm, good old PVA wood glue for gluing the polystyrene together..... Actually, just put the whole sluice on a block of polystyrene.. Cheap and light...

Chris, what an awesome idea! It certainly is achievable with a little balance change. I would lock down this idea quickly by getting a patent. I wonder why no one else thought of that? My idea would be to use the type of Hawian balance on their boats. I don't know what it's called, but they stick out on the sides so that waves don't roll it over. I wish I had a name, but maybe a quick search would show you.
Even though you only did 50 shovels, I was not thinking you would have that much gold and heaviest as a result. Plus, it was very hot but you managed to stay cooler by being in the creek and not having to fill a bucket, carry it, shovel into the sluice, etc. That wastes a lot of time and energy.
    Blessings from Alabama ❤️

Mark where it sits in the water when the sluice is full and then tape noodles to the sides of the box just above

Stick the pump intake in the tub for a minute to get the water out!

Next iteration, get some telescoping legs for your sluice and set it on the bottom.

use the leg kit you have tucked in to attach pontoons along the long sides of the tub. that'll keep it from tipping back and forth.

also, if you keep your battery packs in the fridge before you charge them, it'll work better in that heat.

Hey Chris, you know the long Drop Bolts you use on gates to lock them into the ground? Imagine one of them on either side of the crate to A. Lock it into place when you’ve found a spot, and B. Steady it for when youre sluicing. Big brain engineering! Love your work mate!

A couple of those buckets from the Aussie HD hooked up to your existing setup. Then a couple of things called anchors. I would suggest two. Then add a pump to your tray. Your golden. Ha

You had the right idea with the noodles, but them into outriggers by sliding them over PVC pipe.

Maybe needing to come up with a 'Coolman' system that pumps water from the creek and have a spray bar/tube that runs along both shoulders and around the back of your neck, that way you could stay cooler for longer and process more dirt? 😆 🤣 😂
