You produce great videos,, very bright and clear and thorough. I’ll wait for this reel to go on sale before I buy. The thing I like about it is the loud drag clicker. It’s way more fun to catch a large fish on a tiny reel with that drag screaming.
Thanks for the video. It's interesting how one company's 500 is another's 1000. I own the KastKing Zephyr SFS, which is similar to the Kestral reel but less expensive and not as light. Came to see it's something I want to consider upgrading to in the future.
I got the kast king zephyr rod. It broke after a week's fishing with the handle and reel seat coming loose. As a result I am very dubious about the quality of this reel. I've fished with the vanford 500 for over 18 months without a single flaw. It would be interesting to see how this reel fairs fishing.
I'm glad it has the Daiwa style drag clicker and not the cheap Shimano Sienna style one which if it gets salt in it then it will easily break from a little corrosion
Not a fair comparison. VF 500 was not designed as a casting reel for light lures VF1000 was. Kestrel wins on weight and bearing count but 1000 is well over three times better. Silky smooth, much less resistance on start up, better line lay and casting distance. Kestrel has smaller spool gape and faster gear ratio so you get a tight paralel line lay, so more friction and bedding in. Also when using fluoro I got a lot of line twist. had to keep taking the spool off to clear it, eventually lost the pin keeping the spool in place, won't be bothering to replace it..I wont get sucked into that weight thing again. The extra effort to crank the kestrel on the rod makes it feel heavier to me. Balance is far more important. Not saying kestrel is all bad for the money there are worse reels but certainly not worth more than the £50 I paid for it. would never swap 3 kestrels for my Vanford. I might think about swapping 3 Tsurinoya rangers for it. Was happy with my ranger seemed good for the money so I got another.
I'm not sure that you fished with the Vanford. That 500 Vanford is pure gold for my fishing on small streams. I can't say about other reel nothing because i didn't try it.

@@NoFro-TL IMO, don't think a feature/characteristic or two can make the KK a better reel. I used to like the looks and drag sound on my Revo SX better than the Stradic. But that reel is long gone (sold) while the Stradic is still going strong and will for years to come.
Still on there for £41, although I’ve had the zephyr fixed spool before and recently a pair of valiant eagle 2 casting reels and I didn’t like the quality even with the low prices.
Had kastking kodiak ... Cant be compared to shimano stradic by faaaar ... Crap. All the screws, bail go loose. Had to replace bearings even. Noisy when on load. It looks good from a far. But to compare it with vanford 😂. 133g ... cause the materials are crap. Im done with kastking ...
SO basically you trying to say i have tried Shimano sienna and i will never buy Shimano Stella because sienna was crap? :D . Kestrel line from kastking is brand new and something amazing for its price! I have casting version of Kestrel and i really think its not worth buying Shimano aldebaran bfs anymore(unless you playing with 1g lures and still) ... Good luck :D

I actually have both as well and bought the Kestrel on my own dime. The thing is an unbelievably smooth, light, and solid little reel. I’m my opinion it hits way above its price point. Pick one up for yourself and try it out.

The sale price of the kestrel is the true price, the RRP is made up to think you’re getting a big saving in the ‘sale’ for £40 it’s a good reel, but it’s not a £170 vanford and never will be.

That’s the thing with these Chinese rebranded reels. They look and seem great, but time definitively will be the test factor.

I took mine back and got the 1000. I was missing that mgl rotor. I did love the drag on the 500
I got rid of Vanford 500. It's ok but I Kastking better and on rods I use it on balance is better.

Why? There are things I personally like better on the KK than the Shimano. Especially the shallow tall spool.

I don't have Vanford 500 anymore but still use Kastking. Needed to improve it though.
