A remarkable process for saving time and labor costs…and damn entertaining to watch!

Best pile cap cracking attachments I've seen.
I've sat for ages on a mini digger with a breaker slowly chipping away at a pile. Also used the link type pile breaker with a ring of hydraulically extended chisels. Lots of hydraulic hoses to snag on rebar and they don't always succeed in cracking the pile due to the limited travel on the chisels.

Lol. I'm an accountant, yet I shrieked with delight when the tool popped the top off the pile. What a cool piece of equipment.

Brilliant piece of kit, beats the heck out of percussion hammers to break out the pile.

10-15 years ago it took 2 people more or a less one day to break just one pile . so that lot was worth 4 days of work . and it took them less then 20 min . wow .

It makes perfect sense but I was still mildly surprised to see the concrete crack through so neatly.

The guy that thought of putting pipe lagging on the rebar to stop the concrete sticking sure had a brain wave.

I was wondering why they didn’t use a hydraulic fitting on the excavator that would turn/twist the crusher. Then I realised that you only need to ship the crusher to the site and use a existing, standard excavator for the short time required to break the piles. V. clever.

Think I will stick to 'Preparation H' and 'Anusol', thanks.

What's the point of having rebar if it's not gripped by the concrete?

Maybe if you understood about demolition and machines you'd stop putting daft questions 🤪

id assume redeveloment of the area and the piles have to be reduced to below foundation lvl of the next project

Piles are drilled and poured to the existing ground level. The ground is often made up to with a layer of geotextile material and thick surface of compacted crushed material for making a piling mat to support the piling rig and other plant. Often it's made from crush derived from the previous structure on the site that's been demolished. The pile is poured to ground level. Once the pile has cured the ground can then be excavated to the required depth for the foundation. The pile is then stripped of concrete to the exact level required, the exposed re-bar in the pile is then tied into the rest of the rebar used in the construction of the foundation, be it a beam or raft foundation. Youcan't be too rough breaking piles as they don't want them to crack further down below ground. So no using a 30 ton excavator with a breaker on it. Piles are subject to hydraulic pull tests and ultrasonic testing to ensure that they are in a good state. This is only a basic explanation.

one shard! it would have only taken one razor sharp concrete shard, and that idiot in the pit would have bled out and died that day.

Do you think that he might have done this before and knows better than you how concrete breaks? It is a friable material, not a glassy one.
