Loved it. My daughter and I walked what seemed like miles to get to it from Edinburgh and then back again! It was a lovely day so we really enjoyed it.
Thank you. It is a good few miles from the city centre so must have been a good walk indeed! We loved it, for a ruinous castle there is so much left to explore!
Yeh I'm feeling a little guilty now, there is so much history here, if I didn't have to work a day job I would take to the road and spend everyday exploring!
Good question! I have not come across a decisive answer on why the Gilmour family left Craigmillar Castle. The family relocated to Inch House in Gilmerton in the Edinburgh suburbs. Perhaps it was the cost of upkeeping the castle or the accommodation was just more suitable are my guesses.
Most castles in old Scotland were Destroyedon the orders of King Robert de Bruce. When the English invaded with large armies they sought shelter in the safest castles
We really enjoyed exploring Craigmillar Castle with all its nooks and crannies and hope that you enjoy our video 😊
A lovely little tour of this castle!

Thank you, its a fantastic castle the video was a joy to create!
Wonderful. So hate to see castles just left but I know nothing of them.
For so long so many historic castles were left abandoned and uncared for. At least Craigmillar is now being looked after 🙂
Another fab video of an amazing Castle ! Thank you :)
Loved this place, one of my highlights when upnin Edinburgh :)
I'll make sure King James of Scotts here's about this lol. Castle 🏰
Haha, it might need a little refurb if is coming to visit 😉
My 9th great grandfather George Preston lived here. ❤️
Oh wow that's amazing to have such family history
He’s also my great great great great great and so on grandfather!
You’re my 17th cousin twice removed 😂😂😂
Very sturdy! I wonder why it was ultimately abandoned?

Just found out I'm a direct decent of Simon Preston, saw this, it's completely stunning
I used to live next to this castle and passed it every day.Its a bit of a rough area of Edinburgh or at least used to be.
I don't know much about the area as we were just visiting but the castle is wonderful, must have been great to glimpse it daily!
My ancestor once owned that castle
Wow how fascinating to have such a link to such a wonderful historic site 🙂
My great great great great grandfather was Sir John Gilmour /Gilmore
And my ancestors were the Preston’s!
Wow Craigmillar is amazing and wonderful you have an ancestral link to it
I wonder the age of those two trees
🙏❤️🙏
Thank you 😊
