Great lesson on the use of nippers and evening the good wall. For future videos; It would have been nice to have shown the unevenness at the beginning and the end from your angle as you’re looking down. Hello! I am new to your channel. Love learning and have a question. I have been forced to learn to do my own trimming since Hurricane Irma, then Covid. I live on a small island in the Caribbean.
It’s VERY dry climate most of the time and my hooves are like Rock Dry and hard to cut. Should I just wet them down, soak them to make the job easier?

Question: How much is too much?
I understand when paring the sole that when you start to see glossy looking tissue, stop there (that is living tissue). But how much is too much frog cutting? How much is too much white line (orange) paring? Is it ok to pare into a bruise?

Hi, every horse is different and some horses need their sole trimmed so you can shorten the hoof. Some horses have crumbly sole that can be taken out and others need to be left alone.
Tender hoofs would be a sign that they need more sole, tripping hoofs would mean you have to shorten them etc.
This also effects your cutting of the white line.
The frog can be left as big as possible, but you have to cut it so it allows to loose dirt and objects that get stuck in the hoof.
Cut it so it creates a V shape.
If dirt and such can’t fall out of the hoof then bacteria and fungus set in and start eating away the frogs, sole, white line. That is another reason to clean cut sole, white line, frog etc. within reason.
