14th U street is like a hippie type of location. Good food but definitely not dangerous lol. I used to work at U street music hall some years ago before it got closed.

As a native Washingtonian, 14th Street, NW has changed for the better due to gentrification. Growing up in the 60's and even the 70's, I remember drug dealers, prostitutes, and hoodlums hung out in this area. I was 13 years old when the 1968 riots occurred after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. Now that I am 68 years old, I rarely am out after dark in the District.

I didn't DC still allow this on a government office area.
I doubt these changes are from gentrification, if anything it's from reinvesting into the city ✌️

I enjoyed this video. I grew up in DC (now live north of Baltimore), but I remember going out in Georgetown with my high school friends. This video was nostalgic. The bar hopping, alcohol and hitting on women.
I don't know what I was looking for - there is only so much pleasure even if you do get lucky, but I know I never found it Georgetown, or Las Vegas, or Paris, or New York. Night Life was something I did while drinking a lot, but in an honest moment, I really didn't know why I was there. Looking for a physical answer to a spiritual void.

Sitting here watching this video of my home town 😢 missing all the good times that I had. Living & working there I work for Pepco-Exelon before retiring & moving down North Carolina. It's true what they say there's no place like home so we have decided to move back home. North Carolina is a place where people come to die so boring here. What was we thinking moving here?
I hope you're not living in Durham because I heard, the crime there is just as bad as in D.C. One of my 1st cousins that grew up in D.C. graduating from Cardoza High School in 1975 moved to Durham over 25 years ago with her native born D.C. husband. She recently died in Durham. Many of my relatives with roots in Durham, North Carolina moved back home. Back in the 60's, I had lots of family in D.C. Now they're all deceased or have moved back to Durham, the Bull City. I am the only family member left in D.C. When God calls me on to glory, I will be buried in Mount Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Northeast Washington. 😁

Dear Lord, when I was a inner-city firefighter at three truck, 13th M and then over to rescue one that’s 13th New Jersey Ave. and M everything I’m looking at it now was in the city Ghetto you had to watch your ass even if you’re on the job in those areas We fought So much Fire so many overdoses just people dying from drive-bys. The people there now can never understand what it was like back in the day they call us the men that served in the fire department 70s 80s and 90s demand serve during the Warriors.
