Traditional group stages feel like a bit of a non-event where almost every group is a formality and everyone knows the outcome from the start. This is way more of a brawl where everyone has more to play for. Definitely been more fun to watch at least so I'd say it's been a welcome change.
@@GermanChickenwing Inter Milan, Arsenal, Barcelona & Atalanta etc all had their fair share of injuries between Sep to Nov but they nevigated through it despite with less budgets, so no excuse. I never liked group stages of any tournament, so this is a welcome change. The main event of the CL was always the knock-out stage and that's unchanged. I really enjoy the diverse matches we're getting now without replays in the group stage.
@RunningRugby4 Rotation, Rotation, Rotation! Why can't teams rotate pls? I don't understand it. Having squads of 34 players plus youth team academies at clubs disposals, yet no proper rotations? It's annoying.
@@RunningRugby4 Its really not a problem. If clubs really cared about the health of their players they would rotate their players, because they have huge squads.
The main thing I like about this new format is that there are a lot of big matches early on. The old format only usually had one group of death, where there were hardly any matches with two big teams playing each other
I think its been great, the entertainment is amazing and the fact you play so many different teams its refreshing. This is one of the only things they have gotten right with football recently. Its entertaining lets continue with it
I like the format but on Tuesday night, you saw the flaws of the format with alot of one sided games with the bigger club wiping the floor of the lesser clubs. The problem with the old group stages was the fact it was seeded to help the bigger clubs, if it was an open draw like this format is then the old group stages could of well been more interesting.
They need to cut in interland football to either give teams some breathing room and rest players, or just spread the games out more with less midweek football as a result. Players simply can't handle it physically. But between the old format and the new, 100% the new format. And between going back to the old format or cutting international breaks to a minimum, 100% in on the new European format. Worst was when an OG group was decided after 3 games. Now its all to play for in January. And smaller teams have a lot more opportunities to get some points in and try get into the top 24.
They didn't have to add more matches, I've always liked this system and the fact that it works with any number of matches. They're split into eight rankings based on seeding and each team plays one team from each rank so just split them into six seeding ranks and have six matches like before.
With this format every club must touch at least 3 to 4 big teams. Unlike before some people will be hoping for easy groups in the group stage to play home and away, while some others will be battling in the group of death. Now you will know the real champions.
We could also add a little more spice by making the top 2 teams automatically qualify for the Quarter-finals. The consequence is that 4 less teams would qualify for the play-off.
Way more matches played in this new format. It means more money for uefa (why they introduced it probably) but also a greater pressure on players who already have to play so many matches.
Since its called the Champions" league" and a new format why not ; In the 1st Phase •The best 12 teams going through the next round instead 8 team and having unnecessary playoffs In 2nd Phase •The 12 teams will be divided in to 2 groups of 6 •The best 2 teams from each group move on to the next phase In the 3rd Final phase •The last 4 teams face each other in a one off semi-finals •The winner face of in the FINAL to decide the Champions 🏆
The format is great but it could be better by providing more value for the teams finishing in the top 4 or top 8. In the current format a team that finishes even in the 24th spot after all the league games could end up winning the trophy
Let's be honest, the real reason they did this wasn't because of them wanting to make things more exciting. They had to bring their own alternative to the super league when that got announced and this is UEFA's response to that.
I like it but there's not enough on the line it just doesn't have the mustard for me qualification to the next stage (playoff etc) is far to easy the entire structure is built to accommodate more games whilst protecting teams for - you guest it (play more games) going forward the so called (bracket of champions within the league needs to be reduced) even the next phase will feel like a cash grab because some teams would of been terrible in the first phase but thanks to this new system you get another chance in the competition anyone who says this is somehow good are either prats who don't understand the definition of Sports and merit to actually be the best and worthy champions within that category or just simply put Bias
Yes, it's been a huge success! Wow! The unexpected jeopardy and every team have to give their best each match day. It's awesome. No more guaranteed qualifications after match day 3. It was booooooring. Now, every week has exciting matchups to look forward to, plus "bigger" teams don't have it easy now to just cruise through. I love love love it.
Yes i prefer the matches but at the same time it is not good for the players. If all the fan prefer this which understandably so it will only incentivize UEFA to continue adding more games but for the body of my club players I rather they play in a reduced matches format.
We can't say successful necessarily but it certainly has been interesting this season with the likes of PSG and Real languishing way down the table and that will make for some spicy games in the next month or so.
@LanguageCrab Nothing is gonna boring when you're on the verge of going out at the league stage. At least 1 of the historic big clubs will not even make it to the playoffs for the round of 16.
They're loving it becuz Liverpool is leading and Arsenal is in there..If their overrated teams were below top 8, they'd be saying totally different things that the new format is absurd and uncalled for.. Can't wait to see Arsenal, Aston Village and City knocked out
This is garbage. It's basically going to be decided on goal difference every year. Do we really want that? Of course Sky shills are going to be pro it, because they've already signed a contract to broadcast it!! I think it's naff. The whole point was so people can make more money by having the likes of Real Mad play two extra games a year, so it'll be extra funny if they don't make it through (although they will, as what this format does is essentially make it far more difficult for smaller teams to go far). Oh, so many champions in this champions league!
Too many rubbish teams. Irreverent if there the best in their country they should go into qualification round to see if their good enough. The teams at the bottom are a joke.
Every team has equal amount of home and away games. Those repetitive group matches were so boring. Phew! This is more diverse and every match is important.

All we need to do now is just have *only* the champions play and we’re back at the original format which was fine 😊
There should be only 30 teams though.

matchday eight gonna be wicked 18 matches same kick off lol
I like this format too. Just don’t see why they needed to add 2 more games. Why can’t it be this format with the same amount of games?
It can, there was no reason to add more matches, other than money of course.
I think its been great, the entertainment is amazing and the fact you play so many different teams its refreshing. This is one of the only things they have gotten right with football recently. Its entertaining lets continue with it
It has worked against Real Madrid
No more getting lucky.
To be fair their side is full of injuries
I don't mind the new format, but playing a possible 10 games (for those who miss out on the top 8) just to make it to the round of 16 is savage.
That's what makes it competitive. I love it. Towards the end, some teams may get some luck, but for now it forces everyone to really play!
I love it! No guarantees. Play till the very last game. Work harder to make it to the knockout. Great for football.
Indeed this format makes teams committed until the last round.
Obviously we do not have a historic yet, but it won't affect the positive impression

I think it is been really good. It’s technically now a league format. I like the mix and match of games where pot 1 teams can play against each other.
With this format every club must touch at least 3 to 4 big teams. Unlike before some people will be hoping for easy groups in the group stage to play home and away, while some others will be battling in the group of death. Now you will know the real champions.
The biggest thing for me is the lack of top players. 20/25 yrs ago the depth of talent would have been incredible.
We could also add a little more spice by making the top 2 teams automatically qualify for the Quarter-finals. The consequence is that 4 less teams would qualify for the play-off.
its good no over rotation like on group stage
