Hi there , it really depends on where you are crabbing and if you have rising tides etc. typically where we are located around the St. John’s River here we do about 15’ the key is to use sink rope so that if your rope is longer it will sink and the extra will not float .

We typically do 15-20’ we are here on the St. John’s River it is not very deep at all, however if go in certain areas it can get deeper so basically we do a little more length and can make adjustments depending on location.
