Hello Richard, just a follow up. It’s been 3 months and everything is still working out fine. I cannot express enough my gratitude; this was a big monkey off my back. I would always get stressed out having to wait and schedule to get my bag tied in when it was time. Not that my friend that tied it in every time caused the stress, just the opposite, just life and scheduling. That and the fact this was a huge confidence builder in my piping. Thank you again
I’m pumped like a birthday balloon for you. I agree the added extra stress isn’t good. Being able to tie in your bag whenever you have the free time is definitely more relaxing. Also, the confidence you have from doing it for yourself is just one aspect of the boost. When people find out you know how to do it, you get an extra boost. Plus you get respect. Keep up the good work.

Great video. I have been tying bags in for years and this makes it very clear on how to deal with synthetic chords. One thing I do which may help - is to position each stock and use a large jubilee clip to hold the bag position while I tie the stock.
This is “keeper” video! Appreciate your approach and planning… laying out the materials in advance. The “door method” for tension is “smart & efficient”… higher tension, more consistent and better alignment versus trying to do it by hand. One important follow up request please… the “pull through” mechanics ie on the chanter was outside the video “frame”.., audio was there - no picture…. Would you ever do a follow up video focusing on an example how to pull through poles or string through are you after the third rotation? Appreciate your help here… I’m about to order my first hide big and commit your video to memory! 😊👍
I can do another video. I’m confused as to your question. When doing the chanter stock, you don’t do the pull through until the very end. I’ll make a video of the entire chanter stock tie in.
Very nicely done. I like the simplicity (no complicated knots to learn) and very neat appearance of the tied-in bag. When you say massage/ring out the bag, how do you do that? Also, have you tried just adding water to soften the hide (or is this a sheepskin bag)?
I have used water in the past to soften sheepskin bags; however, it causes the tie in cord to slip. What I typically do is roll the bag up as tight as I can and wring it out like a wet towel. I’ll also just fold it up and sit on it. Anything to help it not be so stiff.
@@sandiegobagpiper You start as you do and do two turns straight. Then you continnue with half hitches for every turn until you have sufficient thread on. To me it’s a lot easier to do than the pullthrough. It has never failed.

That’s great. People think it’s hard to do. I can understand being hesitant. Cutting holes into a $300 bag is a bit unnerving.

Why not using half hitches instead of the pull through?
I don’t know how you could do two half hitches and still keep the tension on the cord, but if you could, that would work fine.
