You are so true about destiny thing. I hate Netflix's adaptation cause it differs from books that much! The most crucial and at the same time one of the best moments of all time in the tale for me is the fact, that Herald does not believe in destiny. His mindset is pretty rational and scientific at the start of the series. And the moment he starts changing is happening when he meets Ciri for the second time near the Sodden's hill. And this thing basically starts the story. So when I'd seen the adaptation for the first time I have been disappointed alot
Btw I'm sorry if I'm not being right about the naming of characters or places. I read the book in Russian, as it is my native, so I'm not sure I spelled it right. The video is pretty good. Actually I've noticed you have that little of subs at the very and so I've been surprised
No problem! I also made some mistakes with the names since I first read the books in Portuguese. It felt like the show took away all the small, genuine moments from Geralt and forced his interest in finding Ciri to fit the storyline. I'm happy that you liked the video. Hopefully, you'll join me for the next video discussing Season 2.
Dara....hah they really didn't try, I mean heck couldn't they at least make the elf's name seem more...elvish :) I mean Sapkowski gave already so many unique elven names...and naming conventios in the Elder Speech (I don't even start on the whole race swapping thing :) elves are very Celtic in the books and obviously as described they are 'white' as de facto elves as mythical creatures are product of European folklore and mythology :)), if they tried to make it maybe a short version of the name Daraenwem or some...do I have to think about everything? :) They have the words of the language, it's not maybe properly developed in the same way (like Tolkien's elven languages, and his languages also are not 'complete') but damn at least make effort of worldbuilding....we have names of elves like Yaevinn, Chireadan, Galarr, Vanadain, Angus Bri Cri, Riordain, Iorveth, Filavandrel aen Fidhail, Cairbre aep Diared, Lara Dorren aep Shiadhal, Ithlinne Aegli aep Aevenien, hell those patronymics the gaeic/celtic aep aen to denominate ancestry or hell anything really! I find it hard to believe that in all the shows that claim to be adaptaitons of the franchises be it Amazon tv show on Lotr or the Witcher on netflix...that whenever they veer off the story and invent their new stuff (often crap because they are poor at inventing new things into established worlds) they never even TRY to make it compatible, actually fitting, having place and being coherent with that world in the first place!!!!!!!!!!!! The case with the evil doppler is also the case of losing coherence..in the book lore the dopplers are able to not only mimic appearance...they take on some of the qualities of the mind, mannerisms even to make the perfect mimicry....how this one failed at something like that...well contrivance of the plot? Geralt says in the book about doppler Dudu who impersonated halfling Dainty Biberveldt that even his wife mrs Gardenia Biberveldt would be fooled by the doppler imperrsonating her husband :). First season of the witcher...well...that's the thing it really lost by not trying to put more of the essence of the short stories instead they actually do pointless changes! Some of the stories are almost unrecognizeable....and they try to make up this overarching story out of them when they are loosely connected except by the major players. In any case the greatest failure of the first season is botching the first meeting of Geralt and Ciri in the Brokilon forest!!!! Making good adaptation of Sword of Destiny or at least any sort of resemblance of the forming of the bond between the two character was CRUCIAL!!! The changs done to the stories often went beyond the needs of adaptaton (especialy since the old polish tv seies from 2002 made the short stories somewhat better...hell even making entire scenes straight up almost word for word from books :) that series had it's own problems of course but that's topic for another time).
@@Alex-ln9on the invented character was pointless anyway...the witcher books already have so many interesting side characters that the show could have explored!
I remember no one particularly had a big issue with this; It was in season 2 where all the fans got angry because the writers went from deviating from the source material to indulge in their DEI virtue signalling, to then outright throwing the books over the side of the boat and doing their own thing instead. I believe unfortunately the success of season 1 only made the writers more confident in thinking they could get away with their nonsense, when in reality they were confused, in actual fact season 1's success was despite their nonsense, not because of their nonsense, this is how their delusional minds work because they think the world revolves around them. The only reason they got away with it so easily because the owner of the IP legit doesn't care at all what others do with it so long as he gets rich from it; So, unless it financially effects him, then he *really* cares, as in lawyers up cares, I unfortunately saw it coming. Compare this to One Piece where the creator cares a lot about what others do with the IP and micromanaged the hell out of the production, needing to sign off on everything. Netflix had very little room to virtue signal or deviate from the source material, I think they only managed to squeeze in one race swapped character and that was the extent of their nonsense and oh look the show was a success, no surprise, because people care about faithful adaptations.
I'd like a video talking about Shrek's adaptation of games or books.

they had to add a gay black kid in there. Woke crap.

@@fantasywind3923 Tbh the show is just using the beloved witcher to push their satanic agenda on the youth. This is all Satan's plan. Trust me.
