@@walshy2116 Tension on the other strings. Also retune every time you can cause strings aren't use to these tensions and will lose tuning by actually playing. If you just had a guitar tuned to this tuning strings would stretch this way and stay in tune easier. Does that make sense. When you change big changes to strings, strings need to be stretched to that tuning. Quick changes will stretch but lose slack quickly. That's why touring guitars are tuned and usually left in that tuning between string changes.
Sitting here with my capo, and I've got the tuning sorted. This is a good song to learn! Really teaches you how to utilise strumming as a way to accent certain sounds. This'll take me a while to get all sorted but I'm glad I found my capo!
ah ha you did the capo 3 so you don't break a string trick I presume? just don't let the internet know you did such a thing, they'll hate on you endlessly ;)
FELLOW GUITARIST ! go to @2:08 !!! This is what playimg is about. Its ALL about having fun, smile, laugh, fuck up, but keep it entertaining, lite, Ryan way of teaching is key, I had a buddy growing up, taught me to play like this. Made it so much fun, and easier to learn stress free. We are all learning at differnet speeds and youll get there, please have fun while learning, keep playing guitar alive 😁😘😘😘
you enlightened me i had to change the tuning because the tab really didn’t make sense otherwise 😱 and you quickly delivered the whole song i was expected to have ready tonight with my band! thanks man!!!
I think that the first part does end on the 7th fret shape, then the second time it ends open like you were saying. ( "Alone"- 7th fret, "listless"- open strum). Great lessons, good song choices too!
Thank you so much for this! Someone’s who’s never really used power chords much before, having you explain this and which tab to put my fingers on, really helps! Much appreciated.
hahaha dude you are a freaking hero. i hit a wall at one point and grew frustrated and put my guitar down for about 20 years. and you are a huge help for an old dog like me lol. and wow this one is super easy. thanks for sharing. oof this is an old vid you prolly wont see this but still great work man.
I love this lesson. Turns out the guitar part of Daughter, which sounds trickier than the vocals, is insanely simple. That being said, adding the vocals is a deceptively trickier task. Something about the way that strumming pattern interlocks with the vocal rhythms; it's sort of an extreme version of patting one's head while rubbing one's belly.
@@RyanLendt Word ..I know this is the Daughter video but Ive had some breakfast and now I'm gonna go rock out Sabotage and when my neighbors call the cops I'm blaming you!🤣✌🏻
Made this so easy and the tuning also . Always wanted to play since my younger days . And enjoy rocking out with you as we sink while we strum the chords. Your my favorite tutor on you Tube . Making music fun and enjoyable just like it should be . P s loving the long hair.
Awesome lesson- thanks! You mention at the beginning you didn't know of any other song that uses the same tuning- FYI "Lullaby" by Shawn Mullins (another great 90's song) uses the same tuning and is fun to learn (real tough to keep the rhythm while singing). I practice them both together now since the tuning is the same before going off to other songs. Rock on-
I like it. Keith Richards used / uses lots of Open G and is kina / sort of the guy who brought it to Blues based Rock with many of The Stones classics and deep cuts he used it on.
Mate so much respect from Australia. I been playing a similar but harder version. I can tweak the both. Thanks, ill watch this 20 time atleast lol to mix what i play. Cheers to you!
Awesome job Ryan!!! I always wanted to learn this song !! Your explanation of the tuning and expert instruction helped me greatly!!! Thanks very much!!
Just wanna say that I love your videos. I used a lot of them to learn all the pearl jam songs I know. Blood uses the same tuning as daughter by the way.
Thanks man i've tried learning this through tabs and listening to the song but couldn't get it down. Also watched some other lessons on TH-cam but they were not so good imo (and were wrong about the open string parts hitting them differently in some bars like you showed), this was great. Such a fun tune when you get it down!
You can do a standard version, i seen and was in a band that mixed this with “livin on a Prayer. Great alternative mix but if you wanna really play Pearl Jam.... just do it right.! “Daughter” Guitar tuning justifies why stone didnt play it in standard tuning, it sounds amazing just strumming it without touching a Fret!
Love the vids! Although I do disagree about the main riff…I think he slides up on the first measure, then open on 2nd & 3rd, then slides back up on the last after hanging on that 5th fret bit. Listen to the first time he plays the riff in the beginning, I think you’ll agree. 👍🏻
Want to have a one-on-one with me? You can! www.ryanlendt.com/lessons
The easiest part of Daughter is actually playing it after you have tuned the guitar.
u make it so easy...I listened to this for over 10+ years now u unlocked it in 5 min...thanks keep em coming
thanks SC!
Dude exactly 👆 thanks @RyanLendt!
Man you have beautiful guitars. You teach so easy and fun I get it immediately thanks and keep it up
Thanks lorenzo! I'm in the fortunate situation that buying music gear is a tax write off hehe. I'm glad we mesh :)
@@RyanLendt Hello Im from Spain, Europa. Its a baby Taylor?? Sounds really good
If you tune other strings down before tuning the E up, there’s less chance of breakage.
Great lesson. Thank you!
That's actually a really good tip Mikael, thank you from all of us!
Less chance of breaking the neck if that’s what you’re worried about. But the string is the same tension regardless.
Mikael Lewis why
@@ViaticalTree Breaking the neck? Lmao! You have NO clue how guitars are built.
