Yes, it's a little lumpy. But this has its origin, because Switzerland also operates in the mountains in winter and has to operate the weapon with gloves. The lumpy one is also the stable one. I was active as a special force in Switzerland for 10 years and we all have the sg55x platform. It is more accurate than other 5.56 rifles and can take a lot. I myself own ar10, ar15 and ak systems but my bugout lets get dirty weapon is a sig sg55x. It's heavy, but it never let me down. It's nice that you like it too 🤙

Yeah I kind of hate the 5 56/.223 round. Sadly with the AK round (7.62) becoming so expensive and harder to get it might pay to go back to 5.56 again.
I like everything SIG but am now to poor to buy them now. I guess I have to be content with my four P 2__ series pistols with metal frames.

I ran my personal SG-552 SP for years as a primary duty weapon and loved it! I have always wanted to upgrade with a replacement to the SG-553 (and get a 551). My preference is for the welded on top rail with the diopter sights (love them!). B&T rails are a must for accessories. Granted, as you alluded to, a slick version just balances and handles like a dream, like an MP5 on steroids. I think Hogue has a grip with less of an aggressive angle that you would find beneficial. Magazines will crack in the top corners eventually with prolonged hard use, so you may want to get some more later down the road. Hands down better quality than any top tier AR. I will get one eventually. Enjoy - I am jealous! :)

We were issued P226DAK's for our sidearm - which I was able to purchase upon retirement. Wasn't allowed to purchase the 553 as when the dept. bought them we signed paperwork with SIG on no resale. We had the 552 issued in with a P228 as sidearm. Can't tell you how much I loved the 552, wish I could buy one privately.
As for the grip angle, it seems aggressive in normal stance but once you crouch down while still keeping sight picture as
you'd do in CQB/clearing, for which these shorter barrel offshoots of the 551 platform are designed, your hand
automatically tilts forward and the angle becomes perfect. Try it.

I still have my Sig 556 and I still love it. I upgraded my grip(work great with my smaller hands) as well as the stock. Its not that much heavier (go to the gym, and also get a good 2 point sling). People outfit AR's, while making them heavy and not complain.. Bought mine new back in 2006 and I'm not selling mine either. I like it as much as my AR's (Bushmasters, and Ruger SR 556). Those Swiss guns are actually better built than many AR's out there. I'll deal with a little extra weight for better reliability, and build quality. I would take this Swiss platform over an FN SCAR as well.

The first time I saw this weapon was in a videogame called M.A.G. for PS3. R-553 was the name of the weapon in the game & I love it. Battlefield 3 had it as well as SG553 & it was the weapon I most used. Hope someday I get to shoot one before I die.

When I saw the SIG rifle (platform) on the cover of Dutch guns magazine named SAM in the late eighties, maybe early nineties I instantly fell in love, and still am in love with this platform. You sir, just expressed how I felt when I shot a SIG 556 like 12 years ago. I would be a happier person on earth if I could have one of these. Thank you !

The "real" SIG Swiss guns are outstanding. Good looking, durable, smooth shooting. I'm very happy to see you reviewing the genuine imported article.
Sig-Sauer's dumbed down American versions (Sig-Sauer 556/556 SWAT/P556), on the other hand, started out as quality firearms but later deteriorated to poorly built crap in my personal experience. I had an early 556P which was outstanding and a later 556, which shed its top rail due to QC issues that should never have left the factory. Sig-Sauer couldn't fix the issues with my 556 and thought a 400 Tread was a fair replacement. I sold the Tread and the 556P and haven't bought a Sig-Sauer since.
I'd still just about kill to get my hands on that 553P.

2:07 does anyone know what fricking effect this is? I've seen it a couple times before. At first I thought maybe it was an arm with a camera attached to the gun (pic rail) with the software removing the arm from the video, like those 360 cameras do. But maybe it's just a software effect? Looks tight though

De Niro uses a Sig 551 in Ronin awesome movie. Shootingsight makes a great tool steel very crisp trigger, it made a big difference in my 551. Also Matt Kreutz in Germany has a spring and travel bushing kit that eliminates over travel and reduces pull weight. I shot High Power with my 551 it was competitive too for a production military rifle. Those clear mags allow really long OAL hand loads that can really bring out the accuracy in that 55x platform. Mine shoots 55gr Hornady ballistic tips 1 MOA no problem. It dents up brass like no other platform but it doesn’t rain hot cartridges on the person next to you either which is really nice.
