  • We love Wales and by the end of this video you will too but you'll also know why the feeling is not always mutual.

    ‪@LaviandOllie‬
Hello and welcome to the Great British Biking Adventures Coast Series. In this series we are travelling around the coast on our motorcycle, a Honda VFR1200X Crosstourer.
A lot of our viewers are bike enthusiasts but this series will appeal to a wider audience. Why? Because there’s so much more to the Coast series than motorcycles. There’s the challenges, the journey, geography, history and people. You get to travel the entire coast of England and Wales with us, see how we did it, share our ups and downs, experience English culture, the history and hear about the people that made Britain ‘Great’!
What’s also good about the coast series is it doesn’t matter when you start watching, it’s like one of those open top bus tours - you can get on at any point and just keep going until you arrive back where you started.
Who are we? We’re a husband & wife living in an unremarkable coastal town in England. We’ve been married 35 years and were brought together by motorcycles. One day, Esther’s Honda Melody broke down and she brought it to Jarrod’s motorcycle shop - the rest (as they say) is history.
One cold February day, we started riding along the seafront and just kept going. We wanted to record the experience to have something to watch in the future - the TH-cam channel was an afterthought. Take a look at those first few episodes to see just how novice we were, cobbling together what little phone footage we had to try to make a story. To make up for our amateur recording and shyness we added information in the editing. This set the tone and style of our videos, we hope you like it. We like to think we’ve improved and hopefully you’ll agree, take a look, compare our earlier videos with the later ones and let us know in the comments.
There’s also the filming and production journey. When we started we knew nothing about filming, video and audio production, editing, TH-cam and the like. We’ve learnt loads and spent loads in time and money along the way but it’s been almost as enjoyable as the journey itself. You’ll hopefully appreciate how far we’ve come.
But what’s with all those bible verses we hear you say. We know some of you don’t appreciate this aspect, one or two have told us in the comments! That’s fine - it really is. All are equally welcome here, believers and unbelievers. It would be a pity if you enjoyed everything else but just stopped watching because of the Christian references but we completely accept you’re free to do as you please.
Our faith has prompted us to include a bible verse in our videos and sometimes a Christian perspective on the things we talk about. The channel is not about Christianity but our faith cannot be separated from it. We hope and pray that it will make you think, inquire and even bring you into a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

A few people have asked about the route. On this day, we actually took the A and B roads mostly directly to Rhayader but in the past we have taken the following route. Warning - It’s a lot for one day! Enjoy it and make it 2 days staying in or around Rhayader.
Here’s the route using Google’s basic satnav -
Start at Cwmcarn Forest Drive and have a ride around the forest drive. Take this route to Llandovery -
    maps.app.goo.gl/k1DxoPkmfBaF4yDK7
The Manmoel road is loose track, if you don't fancy it take the Newport road to the west of it but the best way to go get up the welsh valleys is to take one of the (few) ridge roads and not a valley road.
Llandovery to Rhayader with a circuit around Elan Valley -
    maps.app.goo.gl/jJRqFwFGAaVGoP3v9
    Rhayader to Bala (ish)
    maps.app.goo.gl/zGR8GRMoe6B8NwGt9
You just have to remember the way Google works is that it may not plot the same route twice but I’ve used the waypoints to try to force it to stay on the route I had planned. Hope that makes sense?

Quite the distinguished gentleman. To follow the road less traveled was quite the adventure. Then to finish the video off with a Wee Robbie Murray😎😎

Well that was a fantastic video, didn't want that one to end. A bench mark one in my book. You have set a standard with this one.
Enjoyed the animation helping Ester on the bike.
It would have took some serious editing if I was there trying to edit out what my wife would have been calling me with all those gates, unless there was a coffee shop at each one.
So glad Jared got his new jacket and looking dapper in it.

Lovely one. I recognise the road from Dinas Mawddwy to Bala as I have done it before. I presume the road with the gates was to the west of Clywedog Reservoir? Then up to Pennant and Llanbyrnmair? We are touring Wales twice this year and would like to follow that route so let me know please. Many thanks for sharing your ride. Mike.

Hi Mike, there was nothing too special about the route before Rhayader but from there we tried to keep to unclassified roads as much as possible. Here’s the route using Google’s basic satnav -

Fascinating history, you must spend ages researching all this?! Where is the single track road with the Armco on the cliff side (11:14 into the vid)? I really need to travel that road. 👀

Wales is full of roads like this try this link - maps.app.goo.gl/Vx1JM8cVcYB43HKMA Just take a really close look at Google maps, ignore all the A and B roads and look for the faint grey or white lines - that's where the gems are!

Hi, Hope you are both well.
Another great trip you travelled so much so I shared it with two of my biking friends and they said they’d love to ride the same journey! So from one biker to another….. can I have the route please starting from South Wales? Thanks again for some great content.
Unfortunately we will not have an experienced gate opener like you J. 😎

      @greatbritishbikingadventures  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

Ah, in that case if you’re happy being adventurous - When you get to the top of Llyn Brianne reservoir rather than go east and back to Rhayader on the A483 (like the satnav instructions takes you) go west to Tregaron, then to Ffair-Rhos and then east. It an amazing track that takes you along side the Claerwen Reservoir and then to Elan Valley. Some debate whether a short section that connects two byways is a vehicular right of way but whenever we’ve done it there’s always been 4x4 etc. using it.

Hi Ian, glad you enjoyed it.
The petrol station was at Rhayader. We headed north but NOT on the A470 or B4518. We stayed almost exclusively on unclassified roads that ran parallel with the A and B roads. At Staylittle we didn’t go westwards towards Machynlleth but kept due north trying to stick to the unclassified roads eventually popping out at Bala and from there going directly to Caernarfon.
It’s looking like you’re going to feature in next week’s episode!
