- In the first video of this series of doing the major four year service items, I show you how to remove the fairings and change the oil and filter. Also how to deal with the common issue on these bikes of the oil light staying on after an oil and filter change.
You can view the workshop manual online here- www.manualslib...
Many thanks for watching.

About to do my first oil and filter change on my recently purchased 2014 Ninja 1000SX - great video, thank you. The oil 'burping' is something that I never encountered before, so I now know what to do. Cheers from a Lancashire lad in Western Australia.
Hi hopefully it goes ok for you. You may not need to 'burp' it but apparently it's a quirk with these. I'm guessing you've done by now and hopefully it went smoothly. Thanks for watching and commenting and apologies for the delay in responding :)
Great videos bud keep them coming learning loads here 👍
I own a Kawasaki Z1000 and I used to find the fairing removal intimidating until I came across your videos. Thank you for sharing your knowledge! You deserve a lot more subscribers. I hope your channel grows in subscribers this year. Happy New Year from Chicago!!!
Many thanks for the kind words. Happy New Year from here in the U.K :)
Same here, I never had a problem with my other bikes, but somehow I struggled with the Z1000SX, even with the Haynes manual. I think it was the sliding the fairing backwards I missed. It worried me especialy as the fairing was hanging on with those tiny tags I was convinced I would break off.
Nice videos mate, I have a 2012 N1k and have changed the oil at least a dozen times. I had read about the Fi light problem way back a few years but never experienced it until a month ago when I had to redo the oil pump/water pump seals. Luckily I knew about burping the oil filter or I would have been stumped. Also to your viewers, be careful when removing the fairings because the tabs that lock in to the slots can be broken off very easily. If you are having a hard time releasing the fairing from the tabs just gently change the angle until they release on their own, don’t force it.
Cheers.
Thanks for watching and the kind comments and you're spot on about the fairing tabs I should have made a point about that in the videos.
I don’t even have this bike, but you make good detail videos- nice and therapeutic to watch on New Year’s Day :)
Thanks very much that's very kind :)
Thanks for your videos mate never dared go near spanners etc always paid someone to do it now im saving loads after subscribing really appreciated
That's good to hear, I'm glad they are useful and thanks for watching :)
What a helpful series of videos m, thanks sooo much ❤
Fantastic video mate! First time i'm gonna service my own bike thanks to you.
Thanks for watching I hope it goes well good luck!
Very Helpful video, sadly in France sx like mine (2013) are limited to 106 HP with a screw on the gaz butterfly when you don't have ABS. Solution is removing the left fairing :)
Thanks for watching and commenting.
Felicitaciones! sabes hacer un trabajo completo y responsable. Saludos desde Argentina.
Hola y gracias por ver y por tus amables palabras.
Excellent video many thanks 👍👍👍
Thanks for watching and the kind comment :)
ive just got this bike same year and model and it needs some TLC lol, need throttle cable sorting as its sticking any videos on that bud?
Hi thanks for watching and commenting. Sadly I have no videos on the throttle sticking ( I don't have this bike anymore). All I can suggest is that you firstly check the adjustment of both cables and go from there, if the cables are adjusted correctly then you will need to check the cables themselves / linkage / twist grip - good luck.
@@TheSussexBiker if i was to bring you my bike and paid could you do a full service on my bike like in the videos?
@@calnan2775 Hi sorry missed this, as flattered as I am due to the fact I work full time it would be difficult for me to do this for you at the present time.
Hello...I've done an oil change all good thankyou but....I've put just under 4 litres In and its a little low on the glass..is that normal..how much oil did yours take..the full 4 litres? More? Less ? Thankyou
Hi I can't remember the exact amount to be honest, but if you follow the procedure for checking the level and top up to max then that will right :)
Why is the filter burp needed?
@TheSussexBiker would you mind replying to tgis comment please.
Is it 2019 model bike?
The bike in the video is a 2014 model.
what happens if i dont burp the filter if the light turns on? I changed my 2014 SX but i didnt even look for a red light or oil indication.
If you didn't need to do it at the time then you should be fine or has the light actually come on? it's not clear from your post. If it's not on don't worry as I'm sure you know the light indicates low oil pressure so if you had it (oil pressure no light on) after the filter change it's not likely to lose it unless you are unlucky enough to have a malfunction after the event.
What make of oil do you recommended??
Castrol GT?
@@markJones-yz6ke yes that what I used. As long as the correct viscosity and jaso rated. rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F172981687281
Are this fully synthetic oil ?? Are it must be on this model semi-synthetic ??
