I think making the stainless steel backplate lighter by cutting large holes in it is a bad idea. Many of us in colder water need a lot of weight to sink our thick drysuits and undergarments. Leaving the backplate as heavy as possible means we have to add less lead in other areas.

I agree. I also won’t buy a backplate that doesn’t allow for adding the XDeep Y strap that replaces the crotch strap.
