Charming couple who really should just hire staff and enjoy living in such a beautiful home.
I googled it and today it is THRIVING im not sure if the same family own it but it looks amazing.
It was up for sale in 2011.
It’s a different owner now
Ofcourse...I wonder if this lovely couple is still alive. They have to be about 90 now if they are...@@emmestein
Yay!
They are stubborn.. and back in time.. BUT they are CUTE, TOGETHER, HARD WORKING, AND DOING IT ALL ON THIER OWN. I Love these 2 . .. Alex was the traveling fairy that opened their eyes. Hope they are both happy, healthy and wealthy.
I didn't find them stubborn or old fashioned at all, I felt they listened with reason.
they sold it in 2013 so they ran it for a total of 28 years, i say good on them and well done
It was listed for sale in 2011. It's a shame it took 2 years to sell.
At their age, who needs the hassle. Get a General Manager in & step back. Or sell up.
Yeah, I'd have a GM and live in one of the little side buildings at their age. Keep up on the books month to month, just to protect your end, and have a little project to keep yourself busy otherwise. With my skills, I'd do baking, because I like it and I've worked in a pastry Cafe that had hand made chocolates so I could make something signature and special and then be on my way back to my retirement.
Not sure when they stopped but a company running the estate with new people in charge was set up in 2021.
I just googled the estate to see how it is doing now... and all I can say is wow!!! It's looks stunning!!! They also have new cottages, barns and seem to really specialise in hosting events
I just did the same. It is beautiful. The new owners did a great job modernizing while retaining the charm of a historic house. They even added glamping!
I think it looks soulless now and like it was done over by someone from Essex. The number of chavvy brides downing shots and labradoodles on the Homepage does it no favours alas.
Literally the only place I've ever seen featured on this programme that I'd love to visit. They love dogs too. ❤
They're a lovely couple, just a bit stuck in their ways initially I think.
The show was broadcast in 2010 in 2011 the estate was for sale due to an economic downturn. It sounds as if all the changes didn't result in an increase in income that saved the business. The property is still online with multiple websites touted as primarily a wedding venue. There is description of an underground nightclub. Evidently a family runs the business but it didn't list which family.
I can't imagine doing all that work at that age. Stunning, gorgeous property. The constant, blasting music is making this unwatchable.
The music is awful
This couple needs to actually experience staying in each of their suites. I would imagine that this lady has the same exacting expectations that her customers will have. She needs to actually pack a bag and spend the night, including bathing/showering and dressing in the suite. When staying away from home, one needs a place to put one's things. This cluster makes that impossible. Where do I put my things? How do I style my hair or put on my make-up??? Indeed!
Alex's room being far more basic then theres for only slightly less was a highlight
The Kingston estate is so charming I love that couple
How can you have 200 a night room without a shower. In her hotel or the couple’s house. A shower is seen as a basic requirement . Bath is an added luxury.
What a lovely couple, I don't find them old fashioned at all, in fact I see them as very switched on.
I can’t believe Alex the inspector became offended about her hotel. She couldn’t believe they thought theirs was better. She wanted them to go to hers and say yes this is beautiful this is how we need ours to be like.
I don't think she was massively offended by that. Maybe a bit, but the point is that the old couple were being stubborn and refusing to accept that she was better than them. That's what was frustrating her.
😅 No way.
Be rational.
Hers are doing good.
She doesn't care...
just looked at new owners bedrooms they are depressingly modern and look cheap like a purple inn or something. imagine ruining all that grandeur and replacing it with modern generic cheap hotels, depressing.
Exactly
you're so entirely incorrect
I think the Kingston is much more interesting than the hotel inspector’s hotel
Yeah, but a hotel is not to be interesting 😅
It is a business...
And the customers paying lots of money are interested in a place and services.
I agree. The other hotel looks so dark
I have to say this is one of the first I've actually liked before anything's been done. Get rid of a few of the tiny knick knacks and its all good in my view.
It seems people ask for help but expect Alex to say that they are not the problem, the problem is somewhere else
200 GBP and no shower?? 😂
And this was £200 15 years ago
😂😂i would have fallen asleep with their speech and even fallen out of the seat
What kind of swimming pool is that? Looks like a big bath
I think a big key sales point I’d make for online booking is the ability for international bookings, booking anything by phone when you’re in opposite time zones can be a pain I’m sure!
Honestly I vastly prefer their room to hers. If I were choosing a place to stay as an international tourist anyway. Her rooms are just hotel rooms where as their rooms felt like a very old and expensive house. They just need to up their marketing game and realise that nobody cares about pincushions or cotton wool lol.
To the person who avoids people over 60 at all costs.. do you avoid dealing with you parents aunts and uncles etc. You can learn alot from the over 60 s, I learnt alot of yummy recipes plus tips and tricks and handy ways of doing things in the garden swell.
I don’t get it. Why go to the trouble of asking for professional specialist advice then completely ignoring it! It seems the TV producers want this faux friction to make better to.
You still can't book on the website
Sell up , buy a place in ,Cannes. And live thé dream.❤❤🎉🎉😂😂
The Endsleigh is lovely. Wonder if Olga Polizzi designed it - her hotels are gorgeous
"That was.." Painful to watch. They should be enjoying retirement.
Awwww. What beautiful people.
I agree with this beautiful couple ,and gorgeous property,a bit of color is just wonderful. Also the dog I would love to meet. But the new photos of course much better.
ALWAYS WORTH WATCHING.
Remember staying at Tarr Steps in Somerset in "79. They kindly accommodated a baby in a beautiful historic hotel. Brill hosts. That's the memories you want. ❤
I love the hotel as is 🥂
It was like a slide show of holiday snaps
The lovely gentleman really needs a good barber
I’m so confused on what things cost in the UK. Cuz😅 If I paid 200£/ $254 for a room at the inspectors hotel, I’d be disappointed when I got to my room. It looks like a $120-$150 room in the states. Which makes me feel like she’s doing what she accused tbem of (pricing based on the grounds/building and not the room).
honestly, I think just based on the size and character, the castle seems more like 200£/ $250. I think their issues are just technology, marketing, good photos and the sitting room redone. Sure some of the stuff is old fashioned but like.. you’re renting a room in a castle in the country.. if you wanted hella modern you’d have booked in town.. but cha wanted to vibes
This filmed at least 15 years ago.
Did you stay in both places?
In hotels, it's not just the room, it's also the services...
Can't compare - have stayed both countries, varying qualities. Different cultures 🎉
why did they ask for advice and then don't like the answer why bother if they don't like the answer
They got free professional advice…. And still think they know better…
And every time Liz has been given advice, she just blinks - blankly ….
It makes good tv, apparently
Why this ridiculous way of writing?
Most of the owners are the same!!!! So, what drag Alex in?????😂'😂😂😂
they have fallen into the same old trap .... having to decide if they are a private Country estate ... or. .... a business. Having both is balancing act.. you must give your clientele what they are looking for when they pay top dollar. It is a very competitive business, opening your home up to the public in exchange for an income. people want modern comfortability. Very few want to stay in a museum.
The husband looks like that professor in back to the Future with Michael j fox
They need to retire and relax. I do think the old look of things like the blue room to be charming, bc the whole bldg is a time warp itself. The bed was cool.
They put the place up for sale the following yr 😆
"I'm willing to compromise, providing..."
My dear, your operating at a loss and will need to shut the doors if you continue like this. You need leverage to offer a compromise.
The contemptous eye closing of her ladyship, whenever Alrx said something she didnt like
She's only an ex model of decades ago. Not titled😂😂😂😂
Power Point? They need someone to help them.
I feel sleepy 😴
Just googled going to book, I've seen the cotton wool balls and ear buds in the bathroo s lol😂
I love the doggo 🐕🦺🐕🦺🦮🐩🐕🤩🥳 the best.💙 too cluttered is also my problem, all my life😂it’s in my veins🤓🤯. I love watching The Hotel Inspector, haven’t seen a long while. Thanks so much. From Australia, new subscriber. Cheers 🥂 Oh my that was a painful episode 🤯😂
After the lovely breakfast I'm sure she used the Thunderbox like everyone else does
It's so funny 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 1:59
I like the pink towels and pink decor. It makes it more unique and home like.
Horrible
So sad they did have any children or neices and nephews to help them stay current with the trends and technology
I love it..its got so much character.Very homely looking.❤❤
12:10 I’m sorry but that guys pupil difference is soooo concerning and keeps catching my eye 😭😭
Like is he actually okay
Is there much difference between the two places!
Alex has the most stunning eyes 😩
I would love to stay there.. They just need a couple people with a younger eye so go behind them and keep it fresh. They seem like enjoyable company, I could have a laugh with them.
well that was bloody painful
I would love to stay there
I've seen worse. It was a bit old and fussy etc. But nit the worst, and they weren't awful people. RIP.
Interesting to see that the "updates" of fifteen years ago look even more dated now than it looked at the start of the show.
6:52 um just fix the wall paint and that room is perfect as is , just because you jate pink doesnt mean it has to go
Probably not the best idea to get the owners to do the presentation at the start 🤣🤣 Would have been better to get maybe another (younger) staff member to do it or outsource it for that occasion as a big marketing/selling opportunity. But thought they did great other than that - I'd stay there, think they have sold up now though. Hope there both doing well :)
I would love to be a manager for these guys they have no clue whats going on, lowest of expectations. Are you hiring?
They sold it in 2013. New website. Looks fresh and historic. Looks like they only rent the cottages and concentrate on weddings.
This was 2010. I would guess it was sold. If anyone knows and reads this please give an update 🤔
No, they are still going, I just checked their website 😊
It can not be the same owners this was 24 years ago. 😊
@@tmfromdenmark9158 no 14 years ago
I read somevwhere they put it up too sell in 2011
Was sold in 2013 according to the Website.
Some people dont want feather pillows because its uneithical
What did the old bird model for kiti cat
lovely people wish the best❤❤
Greed will always bight
Haha, you can tell when the woman owner is internally biting her tongue. She is very stuck in her ways and he just follows her.
She still thinks she's a model ‼️ Alex was right ... two old dogs with no idea about new tricks 🐕
Retirement screams.x
Still attractive
It said she was a formal model so in her younger years she was a model and you can tell that
Lovely couple who need to stop thinking like old people.
What a weird comment. They are old, and set in their own ways. It happens to us all.
@@gittenielsen95 No, it doesn't happen to us all. You can be "old" and not think like an old person. I'm in my sixties and do not think like a lot of people in my age range.
How so??
contactthe local Rotary and Kiwanis to hold their gatherings at your estate many people with relations worldwide
The one criticism they have of alex’s hotel is a lack of cotton balls??
These old money people always make me laugh. Living in big houses they can no longer afford, renting out rooms and still claiming it's a 'private house' Haha. A private house would be the bungalow you could afford if you release the tiny bit of equity you actually have and lived within your means.
It’s Owned that is what makes it private . The same as any hotel even one in a franchise the stores you go to all private property because it’s owned the land is owned it’s not a public building so they aren’t claiming ownership they own it even in debt just like u own ur car even when paying it off it’s still your property same as having a mortgage still ur house there is a difference between private and public opening doors to let public in doesn’t make it public property lol very few buildings u go into are public buildings majority are private
Ok? Sure, they can do whatever they like with it, but if they wanna stop bleeding money, they need to make it profitable or cut and run. It's all very well owning a nice house, but if you can't afford to keep it in its current state then owning it isn't exactly helping.
Prob not 'old money' he probably had money and she was aa dolly model in '60's!!!😂😂😂
A very special place ❤
"its abit...public-housey."
..Good God!
I don't know how old the female owner is but she is gorgeous.
The professional is very frustrated with everything they say. Yes you are paid to do your job as a professional but you can give a little bit in give her the cottonbolls damn it wont break her hotel
you lost me at ''born into''
21:42 they are focusing on all the wrong things, most don’t want cotton wool balls and buds, most bring their own
No I did love the cherub cushions but that is just a personal thing!
I really like them as well
Looks alright to me!😂
"Money Can't Buy You Brains"
The "background" is much too loud!
I know! I don't know why so many shows must have music blaring when people are talking!
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 painful and cringe worthy.... posh but not posh at all 😂😂😂😂
I wonder if public schools teach constant talking over people and telling experts how to do their jobs.
No it's idiocy and rudeness......
Not this one again! How many times are downloaders going to pick over dead bones?
I fear this couple are the type who usually say, 'I think X would be a good idea, don't you agree?' and expect the response, unfailingly, to be 'Yes, of course!' Their own weak, 'Yes', replies to Alex's explanations of her own room designs, when they really mean, 'Oh, no - this isn't us at all!', and the use of 'interesting' instead of 'useful' really do speak volumes. Cotton wool balls just about sums up this couple's general attitude and complete arrogance.
Just twigged. Mrs thinks she's Barbara Goolden top model of the 50's. 😢😢😢
I feel uncomfortable sleeping in 4 poster bed with a caopy and curtains imagine the dust and webs and spiders yuk or spider mess falling down on you. Creepy that aĺI i feel for me creepy.
professional should have set up the presentation and had someone else do it.....tsk tsk
Tbh in my opinion no1 should be able to buy and own a house with just such deep british history, i just think its shouldnt b allowed as a private home, they always cant afford and then let it out n ruin the history but put loads of modern appliances in! Its a waste
it was lovely before the small changes and stunning after. i think if theyd hired even a part time manager to promote and run web site, theyd have had a raging success. im sad to hear they sold up cos they were lovely authentic hosts. but apparently now it is thriving and im not surprised. pity they may not have made their outlay back??!!
Luxury accommodation but bring your own balls and paddles if you want to play table tennis? No wonder their occupancy is so low. And I saw at least four places on their website where they specified “adults only”. You’re running a hotel, you need to make people feel welcome.
They’re gone now
She kept saying "private house" "private house" then pay for it your god damn self! And wants to keep it period but has the worst modern bedding and towels not in keeping wooth high end theme
Dont waste your time, they do everything she says boring
I actually prefer their rooms to ensleigh
Snobby stubborn pair
