Thanks for the great story behind the Lick Creek knife, gives me another reason to treasure the two that I picked up. These little knives are just beautiful examples of the fine craftsmanship and artistry that is GEC. I have many knives but I truly love my knives from GEC.
HA!!! GREAT STORY LYLE!!! ( REMlNDS ME OF THE TlME AS TEENAGERS, WE TOO, GOT A 5 FOOT BLACK SNAKE DRUNK ON BEER, LOL. YOU COULD MOVE YOUR HAND TOWARDS lTS FACE, AND lT WOULD FlNALLY REACT ABOUT 3 SECONDS LATER. lT JUST "HUNG OUT" WlTH US FOR ABOUT AN HOUR......EVENTUALLY CRAWLlNG AWAY UNHARMED, LOL.) PRETTY LlTTLE KNlFE. l THlNK THAT SPEAR BLADE lS A WORK OF ART.
👍's up.And I agree Germany and Japan both make good old school knives. Eye Brand & Moki are 2 very nice co. from 2 country's. May the blessings of the Lord be upon you all.
I'm not sure Rob but you might want to check with your doctor as to whether a course of antibiotics will clear up that patina on your bolsters. Great story and great little knife. Thanks for the look see.
I was undecided about the small #14 Lick Creek; now, I'm just going to have to get one for my collection. It won't have the fancy etching or provenance like the one that you own, but it doesn't matter. It's a cool little knife. I've known that all along.
Rob, love your videos. As someone new to these traditional folders (or rather revisiting them from my youth), do you have any vids that touch on care and maintenance for them? Not sure if the springs/hinge work better with a dry lubricant (like sentry, rem dri-lube, etc) or a household 3-in-1 or the like? Thanks in advance and thanks for the great channel.
Hey Rob, I was just wondering if all SJ GECs have half stops? If not which ones don't? Or what are some of your favourite locking models from them, I recently bought a #71 and I hate it! But I'd like to try a different offering from them
I've been hearing so much about GEC and how great the quality is, so I got one of the violet bone 72's... It looks really good, but it's got way more blade play than really any other knife I have handled from any company. Have you had any experience with this?
can't open my gec green Macarta single blade the blade tension is ridiculously tight and should never have made it to market as is need a pry bar or m-80 to pen probably a nice blade... who knows... and the response from gec seemed basically annoyed with the call- .. nice. green paper weight . . . . . . .
TRY BOTH OF THE FOLLOWlNG: USE 3 FlNGERS ( SERlOUSLY ) ACROSS FROM YOUR THUMB TO OPEN THE BLADE. lT TAKES THE LOAD OFF YOUR THUMBNAlL & REALLY WORKS. ( ROB AND l GAVE THAT LESSON lN ONE OF OUR PAST "TKA SERlES" VlDEOS SHOWlNG MY #53 "3-SPRlNG ClGAR STOCKMAN")...... ALSO: HAVE YOU TRlED FLUSHlNG THE JOlNT REALLY WELL WlTH LlGHT OlL?.......AND "WORK THE BLADE/SPRlNG" lN THE FOLLOWlNG MANNER: ONCE YA GET THE BLADE OPEN, GRAB THE ENTlRE BLADE CLOSER TO THE TlP WlTH YOUR FlNGERS & THUMB AND OPEN & PARTlALLY CLOSE THE BLADE RATHER AGGRESSlVELY & REPEATEDLY. ( lT CAN'T SHUT COMPLETELY WHEN YOUR GRASPlNG THE ENTlRE BLADE WlTH YOUR THUMB & FlNGERS, THUS SAVlNG YOUR THUMBNAlL WHlLE BREAKlNG lN THE BACKSPRlNG.) TAKE A BREAK FROM DOlNG THlS......THEN REPEAT SEVERAL TlMES OVER. THAT KNlFE SHOULD FREE RlGHT UP FOR YOU. THlS METHOD HAS ALWAYS WORKED FOR ME. ( l'VE NEVER GOTTEN "THE COLD SHOULDER" WHEN CALLlNG GEC.......l FlND THAT VERY ODD. JUST SAYlN'.)
Do you find yourself carrying a locking knife these days? I keep leaning in the directions of just leaving with a slippy these days. Ps the comment on last video about being a car salesman is to be taken light heartedly.

Now, why didn't I think of that?!?!
Love the shape of that main blade!
My mom always used Vicks to knock that patina out of my bolsters!
