Thoroughly enjoyable sail where I felt I was part of your crew and could even feel the spray coming over the gunwhale. You are fortunate to have such enthusiastic friends and I look forward to your next adventure.
Good fun sailing with a couple of mates and a few boats. Looks like a real nice river with some hidden away wild spots. The little cat looks like a wet ride
Thanks for taking us along on this beautiful sail. We had paddles in our boat when I was a kid, crewing for my dad. I always wanted oars. Can you tell me kinds of boats in your group? Texas
Hi Papa Jeff! I have built some oars now! Paddling is great for tight spots but it's a pain over longish distances!! 😅 My boat is a Goat island skiff, Bruno's is a Topper 14 and Edgar's multihull is a Hitia 14 which he built himself too. Cheers
Brilliant first big cruise on Forager and a great video! I imagine that the rest of the Goat community and Mik Storer have been following your well thought out modifications with interest. Congratulations!
Thanks Brian! Each boat is a case and should be modified (or not) according to the owners intended use of that same boat. My GIS has many advantages over a standard one...for what I use it for! if you need a cartopable boat than my GIS is useless and the lightweight GIS is what you want. That's the beauty of DIY boats, one gets to mod them as much as needed!! 😉
Great to see 3 such different boats going on a fun adventure. Glad you all had a great time. A video explaining the for and against each boat type would be interesting.
Well that was worth waiting for :) Thanks Teo. Nothing like making the most of your own back yard. The mast block did look a bit (a lot) too small. Are the cameras dying just because they run out of charge? Maybe you could get a little buffer battery. Let me know if you want to go solar, I can help with that.
Hi Brendan! The mast block was indeed small!! Good thing it was an E Z Tie! 😅 Regarding the "dead" cameras, I do have a few spare batteries for the GoPro and the Yi4K as well as a powerbank and chargers which I carry on the watertight box. Unfortunately the 360 batteries are sold out and I have only one which takes almost 2 hours charging from the powerbank. On this occasion all the spare SD cards were full (3x128GB) and the 360 (256GB) was out of battery. If conditions were a bit more peaceful I could have swapped cards and batteries between the cameras... As for solar...maybe you can help me when I get my cruiser! 😁
Ola! A South African living between Tomar and Santarem. When we are more settled I plan to do some dinghy cruising on the rivers of Portugal, so I really enjoyed this video. What is that plywood dinghy? Who is the designer? Muito obrigado, bom video!
@@TheBoatRambler Yip - I thought it was. I have just found your build video series - cool. I was wondering how much it cost to build it in Portugal? I am not sure if a Goat Island skiff is right for me - a family of 2 adults (she has very little experience of sailing and probably would want a dry ride) and a small kid. I look froward to watching the build series. Thanks for the videos, man - much appreciated.
Really enjoyed your videos with the GIS! Thank you! A question, how would you sleep aboard a GIS, could you modify it to sleep on the floor? Or have some platform on the seat level?
Hi, I was planning a sleeping platform but the GIS is very light and the mast needs to be removed for sleeping that high on the boat if there is heavy chop or strong wind. Best would be grounding it to sleep. Sleeping on the floor is possible. Enrico Franconi does it on his GIS often. Search for him on YT. cheers
Video as cool as usual ) Superb journey) And can I please ask a couple of questions: do you use wind reduction on your gopro while filming? And if you do, does wind reduction highly affect other sounds like water, rig sounds etc&
Hi Konstantin! I have "Wind:Off" on my GoPro8. I do use a cheap foam Windslayer at all times. It does reduce the wind noise quite a bit and still picks up most other sounds. At 10:02 to1016, (and I know there's music on top and all) but you can still hear the water sounds and almost no wind noise. When the wind gets too much I cut the low frequencies on edit too, it's not perfect but it helps! Hope it helps. amzn.to/3q6S5ma Just not too good after going underwater 😅
He did all the right things ... but when turning fast like that ... it depends on luck too. But if you don't do the right things ... then luck can't save you.
:) The additional thing he could have done would be to pull in the mainsheet hard when the roll initially started which might have stopped the roll. But if the sail does gybe the sheet has to be dumped (dropped completely before the sail fills. But there isn't much time unless it is practiced! Bruno did real good under the circumstances!
Geeeezzz got a complaint about this once I started t watching it I couldn't do anything else or even go to work... if you going to make this kind of video you should add a warning that it's a bit spellbinding and can draw you in without realising.
Adventuring at its finest. Splendid!
Thank you again for wonderful video. Always fun.
Thanks Kim! 🙂
A proper adventure 🤩👍🏽
Thanks for taking us along, you're really telling the story here. Some beautiful shots, too.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😉

That was great! Also loved the shots from Bruno and Edgar's boats.
Thanks Tusk!
The video would get boring without their cameras!!🙂
Looks like all had a fun day.. Thanks!

Hi there!
There are quite a few canals on the Tagus and I intend to explore most of them eventually!
Very nice day.
Yes it was indeed! 😁
Adventure to the next level 💖💖

This is awesome, we have a fairly big river locally to me about 100 to 150 wide I want to one day sail,
Great series
Its beautiful sailing, and nice vedio and nice place
Thank you! 😉
love it! I just had to subscribe after watching as I am awaiting my new running rigging to be shipped.
Obrigado!

Glad you enjoyed it!😉
Great trip - and video as always.
Thanks for watching! 😉
These guys are living the dream. You win at life good sir. Keep it up!
Thanks Ross!
I try my best to have fun while I can, otherwise what is the point on being here? 😉
Amazing journey mate! One of the best videos!
Thanks dude! 😉
Good times
It's so beautiful in that river! That must have been a wonderful trip.
Yes it was Abigail. And it was the first time I went that far upriver!
There's so much still to explore around here!!!
Thank you! 😁
Wonderful!
And the rat really got it at 15:48
🤣🤣🤣
Great trip!
Thanks Kevin!
I'm happy to say that after some TLC the rat recovered fully and is now looking forward to the next trip! 😁

Thanks PJ.

He did all the right things ... but when turning fast like that ... it depends on luck too.

No many boats on the river, except you...
What type of boat are you sailing?
Hi,
I'm sailing my homebuilt Goat Island Skiff, Edgar is sailing is also homebuilt Hitia 14 and Bruno is sailing a Topper 14 sport.
Where abouts do you do your sailing?
Mostly the Estuary around Gaio, Rosario, and Rat Island but I do sail the river sometimes from Pedrouços to Valada.
