My Interpretation connects to Wildflower. It's actually the next chapter. In Wildflower he wrote about how he feels lost and he feels like he is in a storm. I think the whole song is about his creativity/struggles and the women represent it. He always talked in the past about the "pain of creating" and how he regrets things. That's why he sings "You are my pain" and "I see you (=creativity) come back to me". I connect that with what he said in his lives: That he makes music now like he never did: His creativity came back. The women represent how he struggled with his creativity during his career. When he is a "baby" in the music industry the parents represent the pressure and the people that believed in him and that he worries he could disappoint (he wrote in past songs about that fear). Suga was there too, symbolized as the tangerine on the pillow. They worked hard on the first songs together. He fights with the women, he runs away, he searches for them. In the end he finds his creativity in himself (he changes to the woman) and is finally happy. He makes peace with his creations/struggles of the past. And he finally is able to open this door he always wanted to reach and leaves the maze/fake live he was trapped. RM mentioned on Sugas concert where he performed this song live, that it is very important for him. I think he made peace with the past and found happiness and this way a new/real connection to his creativity as a poet again, without the pressure of success. I guess you noticed that this song is 6 min long. Actually too long to be streamed often enough to make it to the top of the charts (in US the songs are about 2 - 3 min to get more streams). I love the positive vibe of this song and feel really happy for Namjoon. As the leader of BTS the pressure was obviously huge. This break was so much needed for him. He seems so grounded in the end. 💜💜💜 PS: I think the woman and the kid in the bath represent BTS and Army, his family. Although it's his family he obviously felt trapped (his creativity was trapped), but once he found his real creativity again he seems so happy with them. 💜

My latest theory...it keeps changing every time I watch and assimilate other people's ideas. The lyrics (separately from the MV) are about the creative process, "pain divine", and how he was feeling lost but is finding his way back to music and writing. The MV is a bunch of difficult situations and the other wandering person is ARMY. Going into this phase of their lives BTS, particularly RM, were worried about how their relationship with ARMY would change, but even though we can all wander, ARMY is there going through the next door with him.

Nam, Namu, Namjoon, Joon, Joonie, RM, Kim Namjoon... His real name and his stage name, plus all the nicknames we use for him, you pick!! (The one he doesn't use anymore is Rap Monster, but Rapmon is still used by some of the members especially JK, he said RM will always be his Rapmon Hyung 😊)

RM in a conversation with Pharrell Williams They were talking about the creative process of writing music and were very similar in many ways. They talked about judging if the lyrics were good enough by judging if they were painful enough. I think this relates to pain divine. He's talking about his creativity. Poetry and lyrics should be open to interpretation. No longer Rap Monster his BTS brothers call him many names RM (he says he likes to think it stands for real me now) Namjoon, Namjoonie, JK often calls him Rapmon, he's also called Monnie, Junnie. His surname is Kim. In Korea they say surname first. So I think anything but rap monster works, he's outgrown that.

The video is a nod to the book The Midnight Library (RM read it in Season 2 of In The Soop). In the book, the MC tries to kill herself and is taken to The Midnight Library. The Librarian shows her what her life would be like if she made different choices.
The MC realises in each different life, she’s still not happier.
I think here, Namjoon is melancholy and feeling out of place in the beginning, moving through different parts of his life and looking at the various relationships within it - his friends (the party), his parents (the crib), his lovers (the wife & gf) and then he finds the third woman (the video’s version of “The Librarian”).
He follows her and recognises himself in her. She is also lost (running around the house looking for something) and once they find each other, he is able to find comfort and happiness. He realises that his feelings are universal. He’s not out of place.
Then he takes us back through his “lives” but this time, he’s content and happy knowing that only he can truly find happiness within no matter what “life” or choices he makes.
At least, I think that’s how I relate it to the book. ☺️
It is of course open to other interpretations. It’s art, right? 🙂
The album being called Right Place, Wrong Person fits the theme of feeling out of place and confused.

  • @Timytc1

If RM had intended this “song” to be a hit, meant for the charts, hoping for it to go viral with record number of livestreams…… it’s confirmed now, that is NOT RM’s goal, otherwise he would not have made a long mini movie like this, nothing showy. He just wants to send a message about life with all its complexities, something that we all have to deal with. And he conveys that message in his own artistic, creative way.

  • @jmsl0ver

For me I think he tries to portray the standards of society, have a wife and children, a good house, be in a relationship, be always surrounded by people, you see that he doesn't fit with any of those roles in the end finds someone in the same situation "someone who is lost in that labyrinth like him" and realizes that it is okay not to fit, he says " you don't have to be the anything you see" at the end leaves that maze and is free, there are many theories about this, whatever the true meaning be, we know has a deep message, it is a complete masterpiece like everything our leader does!

The end showing all the rooms with connecting hallways like J-Hope’s solo More, the repeated time scenes like V’s Fri(end)s, there is a similar vibe with Jimin’s solo Like Crazy, searching for self like Suga’s Amygdala. So many overlapping and similar concepts are not accidental or simply repetitive. BTS songs as well solos often have a theme, but sometimes the MV takes it to another level tying into past music video concepts. I have been checking out many past videos in the Bangtan universe lately as well as the new solo videos are released and I’m beginning to see more and more connections. Alternate universe or multiverse, time travel, stopped time, wormholes/portals, chess boards, phone/calling, more I can’t think of now or have missed. I’m curious to see where this all goes.

Oh I'd love to have a look at your theories because lately I disconnected with BTS a bit - not in a way that I didn't listen to their music anymore or don't like them, just that they didn't have the same high priority in my life like before. For my first 4 Years as Army (I became Army in Dec 18, they were my Christmas Present) I always wanted to know everything about them, watched every available content....and suddenly, when the military announcements came, I didn't care about anything but their music. Maybe it's my coping mechanism because they are not "here" at the moment.
Currently I'm trying to reconnect and since I missed a lot of stuff behind the scenes, especially lives and commentarys on their solo work, I feel like I will miss a lot of deeper meanings in their work when they return =/ Hopefully I'll be back on the way before Jin comes back :x
What I'm trying to say is that I think hearing/reading theories about the connections between their solo works from fellow army's will help me find back to my BTS roots - maybe in a more mature way.
Is there anything particularly interesting you could share with me? I don't care if it's just a theory :3

Thoughts: Directed by Beef director. His true self came back to him, he can be BTS AND do his own thing. We all could live a million different lives, all the doors we can open and still choose different doors at different times. Right person, wrong place or right place, wrong person. Keep searching. The feminine side of himself in the one woman. There was a persistent rumor that he was married, with a kid. Seems like the kid would be as old as the rumor. Return to his ARMY family, refreshed. The pain of living is a divine pain. You make 'wrong' choices but there are not really wrong but different. You need to keep your core values and remain true to yourself. He always writes on several levels. Suga, his creative partner, loves tangerines and his parents didn't want him to do his music/poetry either but they both had to do what was inside them. The leaf to cover his vulnerable parts, but he slowly comes out from behind. I enjoy your reactions. You seem sincere, kind, authentic, insightful, interested and interesting, curious. So many reactors for the clicks and sometimes don't even know their names, don't take the time to do the lyrics which is such an important part of their essence.

Cause he had that "Yo! do I have a kid now!?" kind of face when he walked in to the room and "Whatever, I'm moving on" kind of face when he walked out of the room.

One thing you know about RM you cannot predict him. His creativity does not slow down. He is musically fearless. Every project he reads mix tape or album is different to the last. In his last album INDIGO every track was a different genre. Right Person Wrong Place is on order. Cannot wait to see what the other tracks are like. ....because I cannot predict it.

You did so well, I like your interpretation.
I always remember RM said that he likes to create songs that make you think & discover "Oh that was what he was saying." And the songs get better the more you listen. I think of his songs kind of like a book or a puzzle, where things are revealed over time.
That's what I love about music in general, but especially RM's & BTS's music... anyone listening can make their own meaning. Even if a person's interpretation is not what the artist intended, it doesn't really matter, because once an artist releases a song to the world, it becomes something else to each listener. And then when a video is thrown into the mix, there's a whole new layer to wonder about. Seriously, sometimes their music is like a "Choose your own adventure" book, where there are multiple ways the story can end, depending on which path you choose. Which I love! You get a song, a story, & a game to puzzle over. 💜🤔💜

RM performed this song on the last day of Suga’s concert tour last year in July . Suga brought him on stage as a guest and let him perform one of his own songs and RM chose this one. At the time this song wasn’t even finished, we just had barebone instrumentals and not even a tittle. As soon as I heard it, I was like “RM IS DOING BOSSA NOVA??!!!” cus that’s what it reminded me off, and I still stand by that. As a Brazilian I fell in love with the song back then and have been anxiously waiting for him to release it.
Note: the last 3 days of Suga’s concert he brought on different members and let them perform one of their own songs. The order was JK, Jimin and then RM. V hadn’t released his solo album at the time, and both Jin and J-Hope were already in active duty in the military. But they both took a one day leave to go to the concert to see Suga on the last day, so they went with RM.
We can him RM usually when promoting him bc that’s his artistic name, but we still call him Kim Namjoon during the fanchants bc it is a way to humanize them, they are artists sure, but we love and appreciate them simply as the amazing and humble human beings tat they are, and we want to always remind them of that. Also in the posters for this MV he was credited as a songwriter as RM and as an actor as Kim Namjoon, so he also uses both in his work.

Namjoon always talks about being yourself. That he is and will never be what people expect or want him to be or do !
    And yes,I think it's a bit like V's Fri(end)s .
"You have to be happy being with yourself. In the end, your happiness depends on you and not the others. "
I think the girl who was running around like him is another (side of) him .

Apparently the music video is inspired by the book The Midnight Library, which I remember RM was reading a couple of years ago. He and a couple other members were reading it during In The Soop season 2.

    • @ashleyder9164

Someone I follow on twt who has read the book posted about it: "It's the book "The Midnight Library"!!! He's going through each phase/regrets of his life again. They're bitter and happy. His parents, love life, unhappy wife, child, the drinking life with friends n the DOOR!! Kim Minha is the librarian!! The door takes him to various different phases! He keeps switching between the doors, running from one to another. The last scene resembles the bookshelf in the Midnight Library where each book depicts the regrets of the protagonist Nora Seed. Since most of us haven't read the book - Nora Seed, a 34 yo woman tries to kill herself due to depression. She gets stuck between life and death. That place is the Midnight Library. The Librarian (Minha) shows the books - each book represents her regrets in life like a failed relationship, sibling issues, married life, etc. This in MV is the scene where Joon runs on the corridor opening one door after the other! She's given an option to go thru her regrets. It's more of "If I had made dis decision instead of that, would my life have been better?" Finally she realises what she has currently is the best version of her life and lives it without regrets - that's the end where Joon leaves the place with the Minha (the librarian) - he goes back to his current life without any regrets"

Everything about Come Back to Me is so good!! The song, the lyrics and the MV?? So Cinematographic! THEORY:
My interpretation is that he was in the right place but wrong person bc he was like trying to live in the expectations of the world but then when he saw that girl who was just as confused and desperate he decided to find her and at the end it shows that the girl was himself.
He realizes now to listen to his inner self to keep lone and understand himself if he wants to remain burden-free and happy even in those situations. That's why the contrast.
Now that he found himself he can be free of worries.
Another constant theme is his change of clothes. He is always back to same comfy modern hanbok kinda dress when he's with the girl/himself.
Also, something that I found really interesting is that Namjoon in front of that door is seeing her in red, blue and green. And that reminds of the lyrics of his song 'Closer"!
"I see you in red, blue, green".

RM is his stage name. People call him also by his real name, or even nicknames. These guys have a lot of "reality show" type content, we saw them on holidays, travelling, spending time inside their house (for about 10 years they lived together, I think about 2-3 years ago they moved in their own houses). So because of this we feel like we know them as we know our friends (of course we are aware there are limits in what they share), and because of that people call him in all the ways the other BTS members call him, not only his stage/artist name.

Music & art is open to many diff interpretations - here's one I liked from X : "After watching the video, i feel like this is only the intro to a story Namjoon is going to tell us through the album. I don’t think the woman is a woman. I think she’s a guide that he keeps losing sight of but that always seems to find him when he feels at the end of his rope. The voice of reason calling him back before making bad decisions or subjecting himself to toxicity. I feel like certain scenes represent the ideals people force on him. People who only see Namjoon the plant lover (hiding behind the plant) who baby him (a grown man in a crib being cooed at until they get bored and walk away annoyed because he hides) the ones who try to pressure him into drinking and smoking, people who swear he’s married with a hidden kid, it’s all there but then it seems like he tried to make peace with them because it’s the life he chose. He doesn’t like it but at the same time, it’s the path he took so the other Namjoon, the one who is accepting of it just smiles at him, letting him know it’s ok to feel those things but don’t get lost in it. Then the woman, the voice of reason comes back for him. I like how when they leave it’s like they’re leaving all these stage sets as if she’s saying, come with me, I’ll take you from all of this plastic and remind you of who you are but even then, it’s a never ending labyrinth they must traverse together and so i still stand by my original theory that come back to me is about Namjoon finding himself and at this point, maybe he feels he’s in the right place but he’s not the right person."

Hi, I love RM, and like to think about this theory, no door shows him a nice escenario, until he finds army and helps him enjoy all the escenarios and in the end he even helps him open the door that he cluldn't open, that is rediscovers his essence what it means to be the artista he is, it is just my opinión and I will continúe to love RM and BTS in all the stage of his life, greetings🥰💜

One of the write-ups I saw it was about his past, present and future (and yes those were different women). and the woman who helps him find happiness in his life is also different and even though he couldn't open the door on his own, she didn't open it either, she just encouraged him to be able to open it. There are lots of theories about it, which I love reading, but I don't want to say any ONE is correct, which I feel both RM and the director would like as well (and yes he is a famous TV director, but he directed Beef)
As far as the name he doesn't use anymore it's not KNJ, that's his legal real name, it's "Rap Monster". He now prefers RM.

To me, the song is about coming back to yourself (sometimes with the help of people who understand/share your experience).
Both RM and the girl were lost in the world they were in (considering some older BTS songs I would even call this world a maze). Then they saw each other and realized they shared the same struggle and connected because of it - gave each other strength to finally reach the door and exit the maze side by side. The part where RM looked at himself and turned into the girl might also represent facing your inner self? I also saw a theory saying the girl represented ARMY who supported RM for years during both happy and sad times - while RM and his music helped them in their own life - therefore they helped each other reach the door.

Vc precisa conhecer o álbum anterior dele, "Indigo".

i think you are spot on 💜 this seems like another introspective song by RM. my interpretation: at first he wanders aimlessly through life, maybe depressed. he looks within himself, seeking a deeper connection to someone/something. only then does he discover his purpose. his life has true meaning now - he has the confidence to be exactly who he is (unique), no matter where life takes him.

  • @jenniferrassart3054

In my opinion the song is about not wanting to comply to societal standards, finding his authentic self, his search to find out what he wants in life and learning how to be content in the moment. There's also a theory that the girl at the end is ARMY because she's wearing purple and that she guides him through life and stays by his side always, whatever the life choices are that he will make. My theory is that he recognizes himself in her (She's lost her way in life just like him - you see her wander in the hallway, running from one room to another). The rooms/scenes represent different stages (or possible stages) in his future life. So when he sees her, he realizes that he's not the only one that is feeling lost, that a lot of people struggle with that. When he finds himself (he's singing to himself to come back to him), he can be content in the moment (he's smiling now in every situation where he was first depressed and couldn't even care to wash his face or take a shower and was feeling lost/out of place (the album is called 'Right place, wrong person') in every scene). His voice tone is more a depressed feeling (Namjoon has a history of regurarly being depressed). He can now open the door to his future and be more confident to face life with his endless possibilities and life choices to makeand his struggled (represented by the maze of rooms/life choices/outcomes).

Thank you for this reaction. At first, I thought he was missing someone and wanted that person to come back. But I think you are right: he is talking to himself. Come back to my true self. This really matches up with Wild Flower lyrics in his last album, Indigo. If you haven't watched it, you will be blown away. Personally, he has made a lot of progress since the way he was feeling really lost in Wildflower. He seems to have come back to himself somewhat. "Pain, divine, divine" could be a reference to the pain he talks about in Wildflower, but pain can push you to retreat and find the cause of the pain, so in a way,, it is from the Divine Creator to draw us back to our true purpose in life. Just a guess from a retired English teacher who fell in love with BTS because of RM's lyrics.

RM is his stage name, or the name he uses as an artist/composer/producer when he produces music. In real life, I think he prefers using his birth name, Kim NamJoon. Jungkook likes to tease him with "Rappp Monsteeerrrrr". Some ARMY, like myself sometimes give him nicknames like Namu (means tree in Korean) or Joon/Joonie. We also like to call him Uri (our) Leader or Mr President. So it's up to you, you can use any of those and we'll understand who you are referring to.
He's a rapper, but he is also a poet. And he explores all kind of musical genres. If you listen to his mixtapes and albums (RM, Mono, Indigo, and the upcoming Right Place Wrong Person), you'll find different vibes each time. His songs are art, and they are open for different interpretations.

  • @sangi1846

There is a lot of ways to interpret it actually. I liked your kid one. For me it's him freeing himself from his fears, societal pressure of being in certain situations/boxes and him not fitting in any of them. The friend group, the marriage with the child, the relationship, even as the son. He is lost and a feeling of resignation & hopelessness surrounds him but suddenly he sees this lady searching for something too running around. Maybe she represents another soul who is like him or she is something which he was always looking for, a person, spring itself, his spark or realisation or a part of his own self. He talks with them & suddenly he is happy, having fun depite being in those boxes or he found a way around it to be happy. And then towards the end, he is being ushered by the lady towards the door he was always trying to open desperately but it never opened.she encourages him and the he takes a deep breath and opens it and this time it easily opens and they both walk out together.
The maze is his life and all it's boxes or it could be the different possibilities of life too. There's so many ways you could go. He found his path, he found himself.
There's more to think about but this is one theory

Obg pela reação!! Eu tb achei MPB viu!

On the solo album “FACE”, released by JIMIN in 2023, there is the song “LIKE CRAZY”, the first Korean solo to debut at number 1 on Billboard, a tremendous success. When you react to this one, be sure to listen to the acoustic version, sung on a Korean TV show, where it sounds a lot like Brazilian Bossa Nova, in addition to being the English version.

I'm thinking it has to do with being trapped in all these roles or expectations. Maybe he had to find himself so he could be himself, be happy and escape the maze.
BTS songs talk about relationships a lot and I guess it can be applied to another person but usually they are talking about the relationship they have with themselves. Maybe the girl represents the anima (the feminie side of every man)? Something they refer to a lot is the jung's model of the psyche- all the albums/songs are named after the different parts. Maybe? Thanks for your reaction and your interpretation! Please also do wildflower by RM, if you can. It gives me goosebumps everytime.

You're one of the very few that understands the 2 sentences about him not wanting to comply to societal standards (when he's in the bathroom with his alleged wife and child). Most people react as 'Oh, Namjoon wants a wife and a child! Oh, daddy Namjoon!'. Namjoon used to be very vocal about him wanting to be a father one day. But over the years he was doubting this (people forget it or don't know about it). Opinions can change over the years, and at the end it's his choice and he shouldn't be pressured. And to be honest, they work so hard (while being in BTS), that they're is hardly any time off. So if he would be a father at his point in his life, he would be a very distant father. I think even sustaining a relationship will not be easy. And about marriage... I saw him on a show with other (older) men where he said that he's scared about marriage, about the long-term committment. And what's the big deal? It's his choice to make wheather he wants to get married or not (he can chose to have a relationship without being married too, a lot of people chose that nowadays) or if he even wants a relationship at all right now... He wants to mzke his own life choices, weather it's in his personal life or in his professional life and be happy in the moment/whith wathever choices he makes...
